The end of transfer window could be very rough on the Rock.In a bad spiral with a new defeat in Ligue 1 against Strasbourg (1-3), AS Monaco could see their striker Islam Slimani leave. According to our information, Tottenham - who will lose Christian Eriksen, bound for Inter - and Manchester United are looking for an attacking player and are increasingly exploring the Islam Slimani track. The two Premier League clubs have entered into discussions with the entourage of the Algerian international for a transfer before the end of the winter transfer window.

A revelation in doubt
Arrived in summer 2019 in Monaco on loan from Leicester, the 31-year-old player did not take much time to adapt to his new team. The Algerian scored 7 goals and delivered 8 assists in 13 games played in Ligue 1. But since the ouster of Leonardo Jardim and the arrival of Robert Moreno, Slimani has suffered the new tactical system of the Spaniard. He has only played half an hour since the start of the year. It was against PSG on January 12. He had also scored the goal of equalization (3-3).

Don't believe this for a second, we're just being used to pump up the offer from Spurs IMO.

He suits Mourinho as the target man he wants, why would we need him?

Quite obvious why we'd need a striker, is it not?
Rashford wasn't a striker in the first place. we need a wide forward/winger more i'd say.

Yes in the long term we need a striker to challenge Martial but is that really Slimani? a guy that failed at Leicester?

Solskjaer keeps saying no panic buys and good planning - this screams of anything but "if true".

I always liked him before the Leicester move, didn't work out for him there, had no idea how he was getting on recently, and he's clearly doing alright. I think there's worse choices to make. We are desperate at this point, if we don't do some desperate moves the seasons dead.

Rated him pre Leicester. Didn't work out for him there but I think he's a good player tbh. Has a decent return at Monaco. We could do a lot worse.

We need a striker. Your options for a loan in janurary are always going to be limited

If it’s a loan until the end of the season. It’s fine.

He also keeps saying he is looking at short term options, which is what Slimani would be. Any sort of striker allows us to not have to play the same three forwards every game for months. Martial can also play wide left if needed.

Ole has been open and honest about his change in approach now with all the injuries we've got, its logical and wise for us to look for some short term fixes like loans to get us through the season. Otherwise we'll run our squad into the ground to a ridiculous level.

Both clubs need the exact same thing: a short term solution and a player that while not great can contribute. It's no surprise that both clubs might have a similar shortlist of candidates. Great for the players imo as the competition will increase their wages.

I'd take a loan with an option to buy, no where near enough as bad as people make out.

I think thats why United would be looking to loan him.

Agreed, whatever Slimani's like as a player, if we keep playing Martial he will sustain an injury and then we'll have our 2 top scorers for the season out injured, we need depth badly. A short term loan would be ideal.

I'd definitely take him until summer. We simply need another option from the bench.

A winger that will score the goals we need would cost a fortune and would most likely not sign for us in January. We already have someone who can do that potentially in Martial so moving him there and buying/loaning a striker is the only option short term.

Yeah, agree, but we need a striker anyway so we should just overpay to get one of our main targets now. But that is wishful thinking I know.

In our current predicament we're in a situation in the current window where we have to consider plastering over the wounds until Pochettino takes the reigns in the summer.

We could use a player that is good in tight places.

if it is a loan, there is not much to be used here to pump up the price. People always assume it isnt true for every player they dont rate or who is below our level. With a few days to go and no signings, we definitely need somer attacker on loan at least to get to the summer. He is a short term panic loan, but since he wont cost a lot, not many will care i guess.

As a loan deal / impact sub I Guess it could work, just think there's better options long term.

Him being a sensible loan deal for us isn’t contingent on Bruno at all.
It would. Him as our only signing would mean there's too much expectation and he flops, and we are too short in attack to make the top 4. Him alongside Bruno means less expectation and a more realistic attitude from fans as to what he could bring, given that Bruno would be the main signing, and he would be able to give us something different to the creativity of Bruno.

Him as our only signing will mean that we have replaced the loss of one forward with another. Whatever needs we have in midfield are separate, otherwise you may as well say it will only be a good signing if we also sign the other 5 players we need to fix our other 5 issues, which won’t happen in January.

He's a body but that's about it. From what I remember of him he's more of a target forward/good in the air type so I'm not sure how well he'd fit into our current system either.

Sounds like we are asking for about £4million as a loan fee from whoever he goes to

He will provide us with a good option when we face low blocks. None of our forward line are good in the air, and so many of the crosses from James or AWB are wasted since none one is in the box to head them in. Dislike him as you may want to, but Fellaini did actually have his uses when he was here.
