Interesting that it's only a loan deal. ETH's comments to me would suggest it's merely an arse covering stop gap signing until the summer. Wonder do they have someone in mind but know they won't be able to get him this window

doesn’t matter about his hands. we’re only interested in a keeper that can use his feet any way.
I don't really think he's very good anymore but happy we had a target sorted swiftly rather than faffing around.
I think we should always have a list of targets to replace every single player in the squad. Keep it constantly updated and you can act fast.

Probably smart. He can see how Butland and De Gea do for the rest of the season and then decide if he wants to sign Butland permanently and keep De Gea as the undisputed number 1, or thinks he needs to get someone else to fight De Gea for the number 1.
