Worth noting that Jack was a man of many parts. He loved the country life, fishing and shooting and had no airs and graces about him, would have a chat over a pint with anyone.
He was a staunch socialist and a founding member of the Anti Nazi league in the 70s.He also stood on the picket lines with the striking miners in the 80s.
A good egg.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

Didn't know that! Is that correct?

Makes me respect him even more.

RIP big fella. Some of my greatest childhood memories revolved around what this man and Ireland did at world cups. Absolute legend and a gentleman.

As an Irishman I'm honestly devastated at this news.

An absolute legend. Will never be forgotten.

My only personal memory of Jack Charlton was back in 2002 or 2003, he opened the Nationwide Bank in Pontefract. He cut the ribbon and gave a little speech, which was along the lines of:

"I'm very happy to be here in Pontefract, which I hear is much nicer than *reads note on his hand* Castleford. I come here quite often for the *reads other hand* markets and horse racing".

Then he signed a bunch of autographs and chatted with people, which my Leeds supporting mate was quite chuffed about. Seemed like a proper nice fella.

RIP Jack Charlton. Rarely can you have two siblings that can achieve the legend status.

I read an article about 2 years ago that said they were still not on speaking terms. But who knows, it doesn't really matter.
Nonsense, he'd been suffering from dementia. When i spoke to Reaney,he told me that Jack was in a bad way and had real trouble communicating. If he couldn't speak much anway how was he to be having riveting conversations with Bobby?

Journos will stir all kinds of shit up for a story.

No idea mate I wouldn’t know the details of their relationship.

The last I read about them was when they were both pictured attending a funeral a few years back.

So it does question the authenticity of an article that 'claims' they weren't on speaking terms

RIP Jack, legend of a player, as my Dad said "Hardest giraffe in football"! Him and Hunter these days would not be allowed, but to many lads playing on parks and fields when I was growing up, they were how it should be played!
Alas, things change and I love the game now, but........

Rest in peace, Jack. I'll always love that moment where he awarded Sir Bobby his sports personality award in 2008. It was just great to see them together.

As an Irishman, man his death has hit hard. I'm not being mean to be rude to any English people but they will never know how much Jack meant to the people of Ireland and how he transformed a country. The joy, the memories that one man produced to our little country will never happen again. He was a proud Englishman but he became an Irishman in our eyes. Our greatest ever manager and I doubt as a country we'll ever have a manager who brought us to three major tournaments and made us dear to dream that we could win the World Cup in Italia 1990.

He'll never be forgotten and I'm now hoping the FAI will give him a statue outside the Aviva stadium or give him a stand under his name which he deserves . I hope he gets the best bed in heaven

He was A proud Englishman but I’ll never forget 1996 at Lansdowne Road where he was telling English hooligans to go home. He was ashamed to be English that night and embarrassed.
brought great years to Irish football.

RIP Jack

Ah, such great memories of his time in charge of Ireland. He connected with us on a lot of levels and bar the odd total football arsehole, there's hardly a man, woman or child in the place that remembers him with anything other than fondness. Rest in peace.

Love that story Paul Mcgrath tells that Jack used to tell him to walk over to the striker you're about to mark at the start of the game, and look him in the eyes and smile. As if to say 'I'm gonna enjoy knocking lumps out of you.'

The team spirit Jack built with that Ireland team was legendary. They should have gone further than they did in USA 94. Packie Boner had an uncharacteristic nightmare against the Dutch in the 2nd round knockout stages, in a game Ireland were possibly favourites to win.
