Aston Villa 2:1 Man Utd
Seemed composed on his debut. Cool that Darren's son has gotten a game for us. Hopefully we have a new CM here

Only the second son of a former player to play for Utd, he did ok.

Let's hope he can get Motm in a European Cup final as well.

Those that watch him in the academy, what kind of player is he? Is he more suited for the two number 10 roles or is he really a centre midfielder?
He's probably more suited to be a 10, I think he can do the CM role if he had a good defensive partner. He's got some ability in scoring and he's always been a creator too. His weakness is that he's not that fast/athletic but that hasn't really stopped him at all

Tough old game to make your debut in, but thought he did ok. Nothing noteworthy bad or good, which is half the battle.

He's never particularly stood out to me in the youth teams, but I thought he looked surprisingly adept. He seemed generally up to speed with his team-mates and seemed to cover the ground well.

He looked a bit more ready to me than Lacey, whose current lack of physicality seemed a bit more evident and who appeared a bit slow to react to a couple of balls.

That didn't look like a potential issue based on yesterday - he seemed quite quick and covered ground well. It was always more of the potential draw-back with Mainoo, even based on his academy appearances. Fletcher already looked less sluggish than Mainoo does.

Yeah Mainoo's debut season he didn't look sluggish either, I felt like he always rushed getting stronger and it made him slower. Fletcher doesn't have that same problem his quickness and acceleration was fine. I think he'll do better than we thought he would. Something about players not standing out tends to give them an edge to keep working harder when they're slacking in certain areas. Rashford was never really thought to be a standout in the academy and look where he ended up

That's just not true go back to his performance thread there are plenty of posters who raised this as a concern.

Man Utd 1:0 Newcastle
Wrong match for him tbh. He didn't play badly, but just didn't have a chance to do anything because of our setup

It’s an experience he’ll never forget, that’s for sure. 45 minutes of backs to the wall against a Newcastle side who are one of the most physical teams in the league

Much more of a challenge for him today. Aside from one or two tackles I forgot he was on the pitch.

I thought he was really poor today. Struggled to do anything of note throughout the second half

It’ll be a good learning experience for him that second half.

He was rubbish but that's ok. Blaming the setup is a load of nonsense.

Very tough game to play in. He did win that one tackle to get the ball to Cunha for one of our only 2 attacks in the 2nd half

Very poor. Not saying him coming on turned us to shite, but we were decent in the first half before he came on.

To borrow a word from Amorim, young players have to suffer and grow and that was one of those games. Getting them experience whilst still winning is the ideal.

Great for him to get this experience. His 45min today is a good example why people should stop calling for throwing youngsters and expect them to change the game.

The setup didn't help him, but he did the best that he could in the situation. I will give him credit for staying focused in a tough match and not fecking up the shape. He stayed on his man and he was relatively calm defensively for his age

Deer in the headlights but a shit situation to be thrown into.

Might be like his Dad, looks a little lost initially bit grows into a solid player.

Can’t judge him on that. Yes it looked like he wasn’t even on the pitch but to be honest that second half performance was an abomination and only the very best players would stand out in that shit show. Glad he’s gotten minutes. That’s about it.

He isnt ready. The intensity was tough for him to manage. Can't blame the kid for today

Could be interesting situation with him. If Mount is seriously injured (still don't think so), and Bruno will need time, then perhaps we'll see him more.

Within 15 minutes he was moved from AM, to LW, to CM, and we were under the cosh completely.

He was quiet but I wouldn't say he was rubbish. He had a handful of decent contributions. He was about level with the rest of our team in the 2nd half (defence aside who get additional credit).

It would be very unfair on Fletcher who doesn’t look ready for that sort of role in the side.

That was a proper welcome to men's football. It was against a notoriously physical Newcastle side as well, to say it kindly Fletcher just disappeared after being subbed on. We're in the middle of a bad injury crisis so he'll get more chances, just needs to grab the next one.

Tha was like his Dad being thrown to play on the right early in his career to learn how to play in the men’s game.

The performance will stink, but it’ll be good in the long run.

One or two decent tackles near the end but the game just passed him by and he ended up being a passenger. He will benefit from the experience and hopefully can get some more chances.

Standard of game looked too high for him today. Not overly fussed, it will keep him grounded and there will be better games for him to play in the future.

Was completely invisible, but as pointed out by many, it was a very difficult game.

My thoughts really, there was a couple of times he just didn't realize how little time he had on the ball. He'll learn from that and he's played against some of the toughest midfields in the league now.

I cannot understand him coming in to that game. Hope Mount isn’t injured but if he wasn’t why make that sub. It was like playing with 10 men. I’m sure he’ll get better but maybe coming in when we play wolves might be better.
