Sad it didn't work out but best for everyone for him to move on.

Think Crystal Palace or West Ham will sign him.

26, premier league proven, on a free, should we sign him up for squad depth?

He got that level of grit and tenacity that I really like. If only he was as brilliant as he first break through...

He could be a good signing, but as what he said, he needs regular playing time. Signing for us won't be realistic at all.

Had all the talent but injuries ruined him completely. Will end up at mid level prem club I think.

Raw ability ruined by a fragile body and the sad fact that he doesn't have a great football brain.

Still holds on to the ball too long, still tries to beat one man too many, still goes crunching in to tackles that will put him out for months.

His situation is no different from Dyer, Anderton, Sturridge, Jones, Shaw and Hargreaves, you MIGHT get a couple of good seasons out of him, He WILL be out for multiple extended periods of times and you will be wasting your money.

Only worth signing on a pay as you play deal.

We need at least another midfielder, I’d be tempted to get him in tbh freeing up funds for other positions.

A lot of players are going to wish they did a bit more under Wenger no one can blame him if things go wrong now.

Good thing is I won the bet with my cousin.

He supports Arsenal and when RvP joined us he called him the C word and said Wilshere would never leave Arsenal and he'll stay for his whole career. Time to collect on the bet. :D

No point in a squad player that can't stay fit

I'd be all over him like a rash. Would be a super signing on a free. Because he's a bit of a knob people seem to undervalue his footballing ability. Want someone to dictate play, then this is your man.

I maintain he needs to be played deeper though. His range of passing is brilliant, and the fact he's only played there sporadically is testiment of his mismanagement. I remember a year of two ago he played there for England and he picked up MoTM on almost every occasion.

He left Arsenal because he wasn't guaranteed a place amongst the important players in the squad.

I doubt he's joining a club for another squad role. Could have easily got that at Arsenal.

I wonder if he will entertain the idea to join Wolves. The project there seems interesting but I can't see him leaving London.

    Mr Glass.

Sad to see such potential not realised but has a really injury prone player stopped being so fragile halfway through their career?

He is worth a gamble for a prem side, provided you get him on an app based contract.

Gonna join/replace Barkley and Drinkwater. All english midfield would be great! Hopefully not, but I can see it happen........

He's only a 45 minute player these days and hasn't ironed out the weaknesses in his game unfortunately. Not worth bothering with from a United point of view. He'll end up at a club like Everton or West Ham.

He would be a good fit for Tottenham is they sell Dembele.

I would prefer to sign a player like Thiago/Verratti. We need the best CM available to compete versus Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juve, City, PSG, etc.

Just as long as he doesn't come here. A bit of potential, one great game against Barcelona, and all of a sudden people thought England was missing out on the next Messi.

I hope he goes to La Liga. I feel like even though there are alot of spanish players in the PL, english players don't really test themselves over there and I think that league would be good for Wilshere, it suits his style.

He'd be better placed in a different league. Premier League will never be his playground, he breaks too easily.

Wage though. As injury prone as he's, is homegrown status and raw talent (hindered by injury) would help him get a better offer from PL clubs. It's both hard to see a big Spanish club pick him up nor he is happy to be just a squad player (the rumor regarding his decision to leave Arsenal).

It's a tough situation if we think about it. Wilshere is injury prone and he's likely aware of it. He needs security for his career than have the luxury to further his career taking a step back at a foreign club with lesser wage offer.

I can understand he wants to leave for first team football but at the same time disappointed that he didn't stay to earn his place back in the team. He will face the same situation if he joins any of the top 6 clubs. Thanks for your service all these years and wish you the best.

Seems to have lost that yard of pace after his most recent injury. He was very slow in many of our end of season games.

Still remember his hype back when he was a 16 year old playing in the Emirates Cup.

    What a fall from grace.

Abandon Fred, sign Wilshere for free then use the funds toward SMS.

His fitness and general level of performance was spot on this season - he could be an asset to the club moving forward.

There's always MLS and China if money is the problem. But yeah, he's in a tough spot. Hopefully he gets an offer from a big club.

I thought he was your best midfielder in that last quarter of the season from what I saw. Which to be fair was mostly extended highlights of games, rather than full 90s, but still.

The state of this thread

Wilshere couldn’t get in the Bournemouth side. He might just be the most overrated English player of all time, and he’s in some pretty dire company.

He needs to resurrect his career, maybe in the championship. Going to Bielsa’s Leeds would be a perfect fit for him imo.

Only played 90 minutes twice in the last 14 league matches. (Wasn't in the squad for half.)

Granted, Wenger was saving him for the Europa League in which he played a full part, but he seemed off the pace and lacking the turn of speed he used to have when he was used.

I’d take him. Good passer, quick and can tackle. Rotate with matic

No way would I trust him with Matic's role. If the plan is to play with 3 CMs (Matic, Pogba and Fred) next year, I would rotate him with either Pogba or Fred, but never Matic. He's not very positionally aware and he has a tendency to try to dribble out when pressed rather than pick up a simple pass. Which you can't do as an anchoring DM.

I love me a bargain and we probably could do with one this year. With Fellaini going it means we only have Herrera and McTominay as backup to our starting trio. That's too light. And with needing to spend on a right forward and one fullback, we could do with a cheap decent solution.

I'm not convinced by Wilshere, I have my doubts about him. I'm not sure if he'd be an improvement on Fellaini as a squad option. At least the latter is dependable. Wilshere might be better technically but his absences are long and frequent.

I think that was true when he was younger but what I saw of him last season was a player who kept it simple. When he did try that Hollywood pass it rarely paid off. I agree with most here, injuries have taken his toll and he’s probably best suited to a mid table team.
Even if he could stay fit I don’t think I’d have him ahead of Herrera

I think he’s been very good on his day but it’s been a long time since he was bossing games at a high level. Arsenal are getting rid of him on a free. That’s all you need to know as a united fan. He must not be good enough for arsenal so why would we want him here when we aspire to be better than them. He Doesn’t really seem to have a winners mentality either and we need a lot more grit around here. I think there’s no chance we will want to sign him anyway. Im another who’d like to see him go abroad and try his luck. I wonder would someone like Dortmund give him a shot? More than likely West Ham, Palace etc.

Can you see Mourinho really signing him though?
I think West Ham and Palace are the most likely
