I hope he really works out, tbh he might have the best chance to crack the team because of his position. He's really only competing against T Fletcher in the academy.

What are the odds of Devaney being that "3rd" midfielder for us (Mainoo + Ederson + marquee signing + Devaney)? Seems to be very good at keeping the ball ticking and adds a good level of physicality, especially aerially. Would be interesting to see what's in store for him next season.
I would say that’s very unlikely. As you say he’s a great near and tidy player but we’ve seen players like him numerous times in our youth teams never get near the first team. Ben Pearson is one name that springs out. I think he will have a decent career but not at United.
However, the Fletcher twins and Jim Thwaites have a a chance at taking a rotation spot. Tyler seems to be ahead of Jack at the moment and has already got minutes. Thwaites is a baller but maybe next season will be too soon for him physically.
I'd imagine it will be one more loan after his spell in Paisley going so well.
Celtic and Rangers fans were praising him heavily to me when I asked them about how he played against them before the league split, so he might end up back in Scotland. I'd imagine it will be the Championship this time, though.

Yeah I think he needs to go to the Championship, I think there'll be a few teams that might take a shot at him. We'll see during preseason because I'm sure he'll be part of those games especially early on
Fingers crossed he gets some pre-season time, but it will depend on who else comes in and how the World Cup goes for. Mainoo and Ugarte, I'd imagine.
With Hackney and Charles likely to move, there'll be a bit of a midfield merry-go-round in the Championship, which might free up a starting spot for him at some club, if not Middlesbrough or Southampton.

He's isn't much good, never did anything at academy level. When you watch other academy teams you see much better quality. This whole group except for two or three aren't destined for much. He will be a lower league player.
This is the kinda move the Fletchers would benefit from. No risk of relegation but also playing against men every week. Jacob had a great season last year at Falkirk and made huge strides

Thought this year he'll advance after spending last year in the Scottish premiership, not staying at the same level

Very early in this players development to be including option to buy as part of loan deal as he could be worth a lot more in 24 months time with the right amount of game time. Will be lucky to get £5 million out of this deal now.

The next few years could be very exciting for the Boys in Green with some great prospects coming through.
The lad would also need to actually want to stay there. If they exercise the option and he says no thanks then that's it.
Maybe Hibs wouldn't accept the loan without it, but if he does well and has better options next summer then I doubt he'll stay there.
I think it is becoming obvious that the club are trying to monetise academy products in a much more aggressive way. But I think there are going to be mistakes made along the way doing that, I hope Devaney isn't one of them.

Options on loans are a bad idea for the loaning club. When it's a "development" loan over a first team "get them off the books" type loan, it makes even less sense.
If he goes there and does badly, they don't take the option. If he goes there and does great, his value will increase and the club end up getting the player at a cut price.
I hope any agreement is just a "we are open to potentially selling him at the end of the season".

The option on loans actually gives the loanee club an incentive to play the loaned player, especially if he does well. That is the price for them "taking the risk" and giving the player the chance to play. It's actually the same reasoning for including a buyback clause.
It's odd that we haven't heard anything about the option, I thought by now we'd at least get a number
