Jadon Sancho: Free Agent

When a non-league club rejects all association of being with you when you're only 26 at your prime, you know your career is done. He needs to go see a psychiatrist, definitely has some mental issues.
Like this post here. Completely bad argument just to point score because they dislike him.

I think he should retire and go and do something he actually enjoys. He's still young, got his whole life ahead of him and 8 figures in the bank account.

So, playstation? Not a bad time since GTA 6 is gonna be out soon

He reminds me of a guy I knew growing up who had stacks of potential, very intelligent but spent the mid to latter years of high school bunking off to play console. Now spends his days jobless, no direction, doing drugs. Just a waste.
at least the guy you knew was intelligent, Sancho isn't

I imagine he would get a club fairly quickly if he didn’t have absurd wage demands.

I also always thought that he never recovered from the penalty miss for England. Rashford missed one too and it also happened to be his first major drop in form.

I don’t know if Sancho’s case is that unusual.
United had a weird habit over the years of buying players in that sort of position that weren’t what you’d call for lack of a better term “a proper United wide player”.
It doesn’t have to be an old school winger type, but players like Sane, Mahrez, Salah were all beating defenders consistently.

Mata was so good technically and had a fantastic vision and football intelligence he managed to make himself useful to an extent even though he was incredibly slow.
He wasn’t a wide player per se but that’s where he mostly played at United, Kagawa was the same.
These technical no 10 / inside wide player types just don’t work for Man United.
Sancho is a lot more like Mata or Kagawa than a Kanchelskis, Beckham or Nani.
David Silva who is one of my favorite players ever, even though he played for City, was that type of sort of player too, but he was a lot more physical and grittier than the likes of Mata or Kagawa or Sancho, he was brilliant at keeping the ball and staying on his feet when a much bigger defender tried to get the ball off of him.

Depay was the same as Sancho, a talented wide player who couldn’t beat a PL full back to save his life, I remember he looked brilliant against Club Brugge in the CL qualifiers but never managed to show that against players who were simply quicker and superior physically, which is pretty much every PL fullback.
He went to Lyon and reinvented himself as a striker, and managed to have an excellent club and international career.

Antony had again, the same issues at United and in the PL, he lacked the ability to consistently beat a fullback, that stuff surely gets to your head and your confidence goes downhill.
He was prepared to move to a much smaller club in a less physical league, where he wasn’t consistently bullied by the opposition full backs.

Sancho should’ve just stayed at Dortmund after his loan, agreed to a lesser salary and he could’ve probably had a very good career from that point on.
He just got married to his salary and sort of faded away into the ether.

He’s reminding me of that lad that played for spurs, a David Beckham clone, can’t remember his name but he quit football young and ended up owning a bar in Spain

It's not telling of anything. FFS.

How is it not telling?

Beckham trained with us and I'm pretty sure AC Milan etc, Ronaldo trained with Madrid before signing back with us, Henry trained with Arsenal before going to the MLS.

Henrik Larson did the same with Celtic too, and that's from the top of my head.

A footballer entering their peak having to train at a non league club to maintain fitness instead of linking up with one of his many other clubs (Watford, City, Dortmund, United, Chelsea, Aston Villa) is telling no matter how hard you try to defend it.

I don't understand why he's still in England. He is a talented footballer with discipline / attitude issues, clearly doesn't enjoy physicality of the league (I remember when he played for us, he seemed to pull out of duels almost like afraid of getting shrugged shoulder to shoulder).

He would smash it anywhere if he put in some effort, but he doesn't, and honestly I have zero empathy for him because of how he wasted his talent.

David Bentley
That’s the guy. It’s like football broke him mentally and he retired at 29.
Still he’s done really well for himself out of football. His restaurants, his sports clubs, property management etc in several countries

I’m sure Sancho will find whatever gives him some stimulation if it’s not football anymore

Some players just get everything they want at a very young age, and become incredibly entitled and lazy, as they feel they dont really have to achieve much else..

He was replying to fans on insta about him winning those euro trophies with Chelsea and VIlla as if he was the main talisman in those teams, when both times he was a passenger that was lucky to be along on the ride. Kids like that also end up with a complete lack of sense of awareness. *see Garnacho*

I think he prob had some struggles along the way like every young man does, but his attitude has had him respond to it in a terrible way. Like others have said, he prob wont play at a high level at all anymore.. Theres no desire there anymore to work hard. He'll end up streaming on twitch or something.

Im def now in the boat of having no sympathy for him.. He's had more handed to him that any of us common folk could ever dream of, and he's made a complete balls of it.

Well, Jadon. Is this where you expected to be in early August? How’s that “freedom” working out for you?
"Jadon is a world-class footballer who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of."

Wth did he achieved in the game except huge amount of money for doing f all?
Why do people say that, thinking we are all blind. Evrybody is politicaly correct these days, God forbid people say what they really think or just don't say anything.
WC footballer my shiny...

Always found it odd he went to a midtable club in Russia for a bit.

Not much wrong with that sentence apart from the is WC part. Should have said "was" or "was close too being" as a player he has achieved more in the game then most.

Bentley?

Spurs also had Assou-Ekotu who brought in his lunch in a plastic carrier bag and disliked football, it was just a job for him and way to earn good money.

I find it hard to agree with any part of it. Theres players out there with insane trophy cabinets who are bang average when it comes to the level they are at. Sancho hasn't done anything special in his career. Being part of a couple of teams that have done well doesn't mean he was a vital part of that.

His peak was at Dortmund a long time ago now and he was part of a very talented side. He was very much a vital part of that side but they didn't exactly win it all and since then he has been at best a bit part player in every team hes been in.

We had Bojan Djordic back for a bit and he only played about three games for us.

Playing for city, dortmund, United, Chelsea and villa, playing in cl sf finals. This is more than most players will ever achieve in their career. You're just comparing with top players, he's comparing him to all professional players. He's a waste of space, but the only thing incorrect in the statement was saying he was wc, he's definitely anything but

Caros Vela too. Openly said he doesn't like football and prefers basketball

I get all that but going just off of the sheer volume of footballers that will come and go, Sancho has achieved more then most will do in their careers/have done. Won 2 European trophies, couple of league cups in multiple leagues, capped for England, played for Chelsea, United, Villa etc... He'll still probably look back at his career when it's said and done that he wasted his talent but compare it to the 1000's of players playing or have played he probably does have a better resume then most.

None of that matters. We’re talking about a very well known footballer here. The name Jadon Sancho will always be associated with being a monumental failure. Someone who had the world at his feet and made a terrible mess of his chance at the big time. That’s an association will always be there no matter how many seasons he spent as part of vaguely successful squads. Barring some sort of incredibly unlikely Indian summer to his career over the next few years.

I had assumed that he had something lined-up for when his contract was up - likely Chelsea because of how the whole loan thing played-out, maybe Villa since they did actually play him, and of course Dortmund - but for him to still be unattached surprises me a lot; he must be pricing himself out at the level he's at, right? I mean he must have some interest at some level surely?

What do you mean it doesn't matter? The post that some had a problem with stated Sancho has a career most won't achieve, which is factually correct. Most players won't play for United, Chelsea, Villa, Dortmund, play for their national team, play in CL finals, win multiple European trophies etc...

Everything you said has nothing to do with what was the initial talking point but don't disagree with any of it anyway.

This thread. It’ll last for as long as he’s of playing age.

Yeah, I guess if you forget the obvious discipline issues behind poor training, lateness and staying up late that he had going back to his teens at City.

Simplest answer is usually the correct one, and the record bears that out from day one.

Saw a clip of a younger Sancho speaking about exactly this - getting too much, too young and letting it all get to you but that he has people around him who keep him grounded. Crazy that he could see the pitfalls but seemingly fell into the same trap.

Although, there could obviously be some other factors but fans will only ever act on the minimal evidence they have and he hasn't helped his cause with his victim complex and "freedom" type tweets despite the fact that the club gave him a random 3 month break mid-season which is pretty much unheard of. Perhaps some day he will open up about what has happened and he will get sympathy, but who knows how much will even be true.

One thing people need to stop with, is downplaying his talent. He was an incredible talent and was one of the very best young players in the world. His failure here was not due to lack of ability, but other factors. This is further evidenced by the fact that he was equally as crap when he went back to Dortmund and the fact that no one is desperately trying to sign him now, he is damaged goods as opposed to "too slow for the PL".

He's just a talented, but lazy player that only had a short period of playing very good, physically demanding top-level football in him. You get players like that in every era.

It's not great at all if you're a supporter of the club they are at, but from a neutral perspective I always have a soft spot for players that just don't give much of a feck about the circus and financial absurdity of modern big money football and just milk it for as long as they can while doing the bare minimum.

Absolute lad.

Imagine how unfit he's going to be for any new club taking him on. There is no way he's been at it all summer, I get he's now training at Flixton but how intense can that really be.

He's so unprofessional.

The problem in this thread is - and it’s been from the beginning - is the ignoring of the timeline of events. Guy gets destroyed by Southgate and is never the same again; like his candle was blown out. Sure, his mental fortitude can be scrutinised, but ignoring something fundamentally broke in him and ultimately altered his trajectory is something else. Saka seemed to come out stronger, or at least unaffected, but he likely wasn’t as fragile in the first place.

There’s no impression he truly didn’t GAF before then and I don’t think it really fits his profile - he was never some Robin Friday figure, before or after.

I genuinely believe he is navigating a few mental health issues, as the drop off from all the potential and promise he had when he joined is quite simply shocking. It is really sad to see regardless of whether one likes him as a person/player.
Or maybe he is just pathologically lazy brat who blames everybody else for everything.

Wouldn't be the first talented footballer that "suffers" from it.

Either way, we won't ever know, the truth. Until maybe EtH memoirs, that is
