I also think this is more likely.

The problem is that Woody keeps insisting on add-ons to the deal instead of guaranteed money.
Arguably if you have the fee like 30 and 20 in 2 windows, merchandising will pay a portion of the fee off anyway too

Ever wondered why EPL teams assemble very expensive squads that hardly match up to Bayern , Madrid or Barcelona? Well this is it. You pay 120million for the 3rd best player of a team that doesn’t even threaten to win the champions league.

I’m willing to bet that Mason Greenwood in BVB will score 20goals a season and probably get some odd 15 assists. Is he worth 100million? Not yet.

it was the same with Pogba. Good midfielder but not the best in Juventus at that time. Vidal and Pirlo were better.

Next time if you wonder why we spend 400 million and still lose to Juventus or BVB then there is your answer.

People can talk all they want about the market changing but why does it not change for other leagues in Europe? Only EPL teams and Barcelona fall victim

In this climate spending £108 million on a single player is madness. The economy is going to be in ruin for the foreseeable future. It will be open season for state owned/plaything clubs but everyone else will have to be cautious.
Woody being cautious is the right move here.

One is surely Haaland, and I agree his potential is sky high

EPL teams can't match Bayern Madrid or Barcelona? Have you watched some CL in recent years? EPL team literally won in a year ago

Agree Greenwood woud tear BL apart.

There are teams run well in England and in Europe, we're unfortunately not one of them.

I`m not understanding Utd`s game here. They briefed that they`ll walk away and look at Bale as an alternative but we didn`t even put up a fight for him and he`s now going to Spurs. As for the other "alternatives" they`ve mentioned Coman as briefed by Bayern is not leaving at all, we were offered Costa we said no. Perisic is the only player there`s been no noise over maybe we`ll look at him if Sancho`s deal doesn`t happen but Ole doesn`t like old plan B players so I doubt.
So if there are no clear alternatives and we don`t want to pay the asking price how the hell are we supposed to sign him? Something just seems completely off. Screams of Utd either paying up at the last minute or we end up with nobody. Our only saving grace is the likes of Depay, Boga, Rashica, Zaha and Ikone are all still on the market if BVB will look for replacements.

Liverpool broke records when they signed Alison and VVD when neither was considered the best at anything or remotely close. It won them the league and CL. We signed Rooney for an enormous fee for the time and he wasn't among the top 3 players or anything.

The problem arises when you pick a rigid position that allows to room for fluidity. Every signing is different. In general you should be smart in the transfer market but you have to make exceptions when the need arises. Otherwise SAF would never have made all the big signings that were integral to our success. You do realise his empire wasn't build solely on Evra and Vidic"s right? It's about a good set up and balance. But it doesn't mean that being clever in the market results in an inability to flex your muscles for top class talent.

And I'd pick Sancho over Halaand anyday.

But they have overplayed their hand. Sancho may not come to United, but he will not go for more than 120 m next year, and not in a lump sum as they seem to have demanded. And you can bet on that. We are about to go through the worst of COVID Economy which will impact the German clubs a lot more than it will the English clubs. They will need to sell at some point even if they don’t need to right now.
Our league starts this weekend, and clubs are allowed to operate at 20% capacity. That means there will be around 16.000 fans in Dortmund when they play their first match on Saturday. You'll never know how it goes on, but the worst seems to be behind us, at least in Germany.
They didn't want a lump sum btw, but acceptable installments.

Besides all this, Dortmund have acted like proper cnuts here. Insisting on third party negotiators ( already acting in bad faith since those negotiators don’t have any authority they are just executing the wishes of their employers ), setting deadlines in a climate where this sort of money is a big deal, making public statements without them being necessary all bodes ill for their future transfers.Players and agents will take a note. If they aren’t a feeder club, they are nothing. They ought to know that and know that well, but somehow they seem to have forgotten that.
That sense of entitlement here is amazing. They don't want to sell him, they agreed on some sort of RC with Sancho, which your club isn't willing to meet. He's got 3 years on his contract, they have 0 obligation to make you muppets happy.
They have set a deadline because they aren't run by dorks. Losing 40+ G+A requires mitigation, means they would've needed time fo find a decent replacement and ease it into the squad. You won't give a damn about that, but they certainly do.

Absolutely nothing to base this on, other than my imagination, but if Sancho is seen as taking us to the next level by the coaching staff, I can see some kind of £120m over five years deal being struck, with a nice big initial payment of £85-90m.

If this comes true, can i claim ITK status?

Pirlo and Vidal were not Juventus players in 2015-16 when Pogba was very good midfielder for them. He was in team of the year and the other midfielders were Pjanic and Nainngolan, both played for Roma.

Pogba also had most assists in Serie A in 2015-16.

I agree. However utd should have a loan deal lined up for perisic/bale/demebele/someone incase the ludicrous strategy of final week of transfer window bid for sancho doesn't work.

Its nuts that we are trying this to "save money", but we wont take a hit on transfer fee for deadwood and make a saving on their wages. Rojo is 160k a week for example. Nuts.

That's not what this reply is for. The poster was arguing that we had him as our target for a year and was trying to justify how a deal of this magnitude was easily doable in 2 weeks i.e the unreasonable Dortmund deadline.
If the deadline was a thing after all it could be said in hindsight that there might have been a better way for United to deal with it than "its artificial, don't care". You don't need to finish your season to get going either, it's the players on the pitch, not the management.

If we aren't able to sign Sancho then I'd personally sign another RWF and go back in for Sancho next summer to play as the LWF.
Honestly speaking if this doesn't happen this summer after last summer, I doubt it will ever happen. Turning into a Griezmann situation there.

crazy money but the RW would be sorted for 10 years

our attack would be well stocked with some high quality depth

at the same time we could buy another 3 Van De Beeks with the outlay

Really we should be buying Sancho + 2 more but we have to operate within the constraints of these Glazer twats

I've a feeling now it seems like it won't happen, it will happen. United have known the price all Summer - unless we've just been posturing

Absolute bonkers.. if Greenwood had another couple of seasons with 30+ goals and assists, he would certainly be worth 100 million. And United willingly won't even sell at those prices, it would only be in case of Greenwood asking for a move.

What's worrying me is that we seem to be putting all our eggs in the Sancho basket and even after having a clear run at him, we still aren't able to sign him and seem to be stuck at a cross roads with the new season started.

I also can't understand why we can't negotiate certain facets of a transfer before the window even opens. Maybe someone will educate me on this?

Well except for the fact that none of that is true.

- Liverpool decimated Barcelona on their way to win the CL the season in 2019.
- Spurs beat Dortmund in the knockout rounds in 2019 and reached the final beating a great Ajax team that beat Madrid and Juventus.
- Liverpool reached the CL final in 2018.

Name three players better than Sancho in the Dortmund team who play in his position. Otherwise your logic implies that we should buy Saul Niguez instead of Oblak to play in goal. Putting the point about buying a player for a particular position aside, can you even name three players, irrespective of position, who are better than Sancho at Dortmund?

I’m willing to bet that Mason Greenwood in BVB will score 20goals a season and probably get some odd 15 assists. Is he worth 100million? Not yet.
What exactly is your point? He scored 17 goals last season, so of course he has the capability to score 20 goals in a United shirt.

it was the same with Pogba. Good midfielder but not the best in Juventus at that time. Vidal and Pirlo were better.
Pogba was voted in the Serie A team of the year for three of those years. He also plays in a different position to those two players, so again, you are comparing players of different positions and complaining that we aren't signing them.

Next time if you wonder why we spend 400 million and still lose to Juventus or BVB then there is your answer.
The last time United played Juventus, they won 2-1 in 2018.
The last time United played Dortmund competitively was in 1997.
Spurs beat Dortmund on their way to the CL final in 2019 and the group stage of 2018.
Arsenal beat Dortmund in one of the two fixtures each time in the group stages of the CL in 2014 and 2015.

People can talk all they want about the market changing but why does it not change for other leagues in Europe? Only EPL teams and Barcelona fall victim
Of the top ten highest football transfer fees, English clubs feature only once as the buying club and similarly Barcelona 3 times. Apart from those clubs, since 2016, Bayern Munich, Inter, Juventus, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and PSG have all spent greater than €80m on a single transfer. The later four all spent $100m on a single transfer. Since those >$100m transfers, none of those four clubs won the CL. Juventus and Dortmund last won the CL in 1996 and 1997 respectively. United won two CL trophies since then.

I'd even argue he's approaching that kind of territory already, especially considering his passport. Would United sell him for 100m now? I actually don't think so.

Agree with you. As a United fan I really wan't Sancho but they have the right to ask whatever they want for a player that is theirs and under a relative long contract. Nothing wrong there. Either we agree to pay or don't, pretty straight forward.

I will be fine with that. Don't want to sign players like Brooks and all and waste 40m just like we wasted 20m on James who was available to Leeds for less than 10m.

To those saying "we don't know the financial situation". Why did Woodward brief to ducker a week ago that we had a deal with Sancho and now Sancho was pushing the deal? Woodward knows the situation a week ago. Why the feck did we get a full guns blazing brief, in the process implying a deal was still was possible...if we know it's not financially possible?

I've given up on the deal, but we need this answered. Why were we briefed about the saga so late in the window if it wasn't a guaranteed signing?

'Sancho or bust'

Was so obvious. Bet we'll not even lodge a bit but brief the press that we tried hard but couldn't match Dortmunds excessive valuation for Sancho. We won't mention though that this has been their valuation for him all window long and if we had been serious about spending more money after signing VdB we could have moved on ages ago.

This will be one hard freaking season for Ole.
