Does anyone still think that Woodward is dragging the transfer saga on to generate more clicks/stories? An impressive theory
It's not about 'generating clicks'....lol. But of course if you make a signing for 100million give or take......you want people talking. Ultimately it generates interest in the club. Positive as opposed to what we'd gotten used to.

fecking hell that's some scoop for Goldbridge that innit.

If the muppets had a church it'd have a statue of Romano.

Yeah, a spike in number of tweets for a couple of weeks is more important than adaptation and the rest of the transfer window before the season starts. Don’t think so
The business side always complicates the footballing side. This isn't football manager. This is reality. It's part of the modern game and what football managers have to deal with now. It's the same way players have to do press and media stuff like playing pianos and making videos with Stormzy. Ideally they'd be at home with the their feet elevated above their head, eating 2g per kg of protein and drinking 8 litres of water before getting 12 hours of sleep.

My worry is that the reports from Germany claiming it´s basically done deal, are exaggerated and that it´s actually the Dortmund side that are playing games here (at least strongly participating in it). By leaking out that a deal is close, they know the disappointment among the United fans will be huge the moment the transfer collapses.
Negotiation tactic. First of all, they don't really care about our emotions tbh - we're just another club to them.

They are saying that the deal is off because that is their last bargaining chip. Backing off from the deal is a big part of negotiations.

Both sides are playing a game and its simple. Dortmund want us to cough up 120m, we don't want to pay premium. We want a reduced price (because of Covid, image, etc.), and Dortmund is testing our resolve.

The mistake we made was that, we made the whole world aware that Sancho is our top target, our BIG signing. That is the only point in Dortmund's favour. No way that Dortmund is going to budge now.

My assumption is that final discussions will be taking place very soon (if not already under way). It will follow something like this:

Ed : Look Zorc, we want the player, you want to sell. Can we just make the deal for €100m with everything?

Zorc: We've quoted 120, Ed. Pay 120 and you can have him.

E: I wish we could Zorc. Every club took a hit after Covid. We could've paid 130 if things were normal. The best we can do, and I am literally stretching my budget here... 105. Final offer.

Z: We took a hit as well, don't forget. Look Ed, Let's cut it short... For you, just out of respect for another club and taking Covid into account... 115. That's it!

(Pause between both. Ed is frustrated as hell. Zorc is cool)
Ed: (Sigh) Can we make a deal today? Right here? You and me?

Z: That's what we want as well.

E: Great. Then tell me the price, with which we can complete the deal.

Z: 115.

E: Ok Zorc, listen... I've raised all I could. I am literally at my last penny for this deal. I have to sell Lingard as well just to fund this... 110. Deal or we walk.

Z: Hmm.. I don't know. Its difficult. I have to think.
(Makes doodles on his notepad, calls someone and speaks in German. Shakes his head.)

Z: (Sigh) Alright Ed. We have a deal.

I am not kidding. This is literally the way these things go in layman's terms.

I'm thinking it's the upfront fee that's the stumbling block with us not willing to.pay as much as Dortmund want. I think we'll eventually come to.a compromise though.

About as "slowly" as Sancho to United, if not more. Because massive money deals take time to sort out, no matter the club
Agreed they do. But past evidence taken outside the often hysterical forums indicates our club dithers over deals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no negative nelly on any topic, I'm a complete stone cold realist. The facts to me suggest we as a club are lazy on closing deals & are happy to wash our linen in public more that other clubs. Maybe this is because of who we are and we garner more attention but my point remains the same.

This felt like Bruno transfer drama again.

We have made a bid, suddenly we didn't make any bid. Ffs, this part is killing me.

Which facts are you referring to?

Relax fellow muppets. I work in a big corporate and handle a few negotiations every month. This is a classic nego tactic. The key for the buyer is always to lower the asking price "if the seller wants to sell".

  1. Firstly, the facts is we want to buy the player and BVB wants to sell (for the right price)
  2. Since the quote is €120m, BVB have showed their hand already. Meaning, its not going to be more than that no matter what.
  3. Most definitely 120 is within our budget for the player.
  4. We know that if we pay 120 the player is ours.
Now, in any market, whatever you're buying, you have to negotiate. So, here comes the next phase:
  • United want to bargain so that it does not feel that we are prepared to pay "anything" the seller asks for. It doesn't make us look good in the market. The next player we want to buy will also demand something if we give in - that won't be good for us.
  • Since there are no other clubs in the running, we have the upper hand because of no. 1 and 2. We just want a "discount".
  • Saying "Deal off" doesn't mean that the deal is actually off. We might comeback after 2-3 weeks with the 120 offer.
  • We are not put off by 120m, because we would've publicly backed out if that were the case.
  • Dortmund are also holding on because they want to test our resolve. Refer to no. 3 and 4.
So, I am pretty sure that we will ultimately get Sancho probably for €105-110m in total. As Fabrizio said - these things take time simply because time is used as a tactic in any negotiation.
Ten for that?
You must be mad.

Our historical pondering on deals. One transfer at a time and all that bollocks. The lack of a DOF and providing a list of names as targets. It appears a antiquated way of going about things for the club of our size & stature.

I watched the stream and the only new information I found that Romano thinks bvb wants 80 plus million upfront.

Dortmund have been transparent the whole saga, Pay £120m in total, even if in installments over 2-3 years and he's yours. Not a penny less.

We've obviously tested their resolve with possibly performance based add ons and haven't got anywhere. Seems like now it's decision time.

I have a bad feeling.

If they're certain behind the scenes that it's done then fine.

If it isn't, I don't want to see us scrambling around for back-up targets into the season. That's how we ended up with plan D, Fellaini, in 2013 when our number 1 target for CM was Fabregas, which fell apart late in the Summer. Then our other targets had fecked off elsewhere or their clubs weren't willing to sell so late.

Or in 2018, when our target was a CB and the Maguire deal fell apart late, we ended up with nobody in that position because it was too late for alternatives.

Definitely a bad idea wanting to play the waiting game because we'll end up worse for it. I'd happily walk away from the Sancho deal if they can't find agreement by August 12. Gives a month to try plan B.
I think he's ours. There is a game afoot between the two clubs.

Still not convinced we should be paying £108m mind you but he's definitely a top quality player. Our attacking options next season are looking tasty if he joins. Even with 1 injury or suspension we'd be world class upfront.

I am always amazed how people downplay £10m like it's £10..... Participation in the Europa League up to the quarter-finals is estimated to generate around £30m in revenues for the club. So, negotiating 1/3 of that down from a transfer fee is most definitely not something to overlook.

I know it's not our money to spend but people should really think through what they say when dealing with millions...

At this point I care slightly less, just because if we don’t get him, bvb will never get close to what we want to pay and will lose out financially. I’d actually respect the club from walking away. What other club can afford him? Bvb are crazy to not bring the price down, even just by a few mil

What is the reality? Woodward signed Sancho and convinced Dortmund to play “clicks’n’tweets” game? Your post is a little pretentious and lacks substance. Also, is it possible to sign a player in FM and forbid announcement to generate some social feedback (or whatever it is called in the game)?

From 10th to 20th
Wasn't the whole point of that deadline of the 10th because Dortmund are having a mini pre-season that they fly away for on the 10th? Seems to me it's either by the 10th, or it's delayed until next month when they're back.
