You never know. I doubt he will. But they could always have agreement with him to pay him more the next year (which any player would want), give him an exciting team play for another year and then let him go for a big fee. If Sancho keeps performing like this he will be worth even more in coming years. Of course has to be willing to pay but if he reaches the level he's headed to, dont see why top clubs wouldn't pay even 150 million for him (other than covid impact of course).

I'm not expecting all the above. But given the player hasn't kicked up a fuss we can't take it for granted that he's absolutely desperate to move. He could prefer to move and want to go but be fine with another year there. It was the case for Ronaldo too.
Lewandowski didn’t kick up a fuss, still got an increased salary but his contract remain the same ‘’expired within a year’’. Result in leaving the club for free to Bayern.

If Sancho said he wants to leave then the best thing he should do is not to agree with contract extension. If he signs an extension then it’s good thing we don’t go for him means he doesn’t want to play for us. We’re looking for a player who wants to play for us.

At the moment Sancho‘s desire is to leave Dortmund.

My gut feeling currently is that we WILL sign him.. but I think it’ll be next Summer when normality is resumed. With someone in on an expensive year loan in between.

They bought him for 8m, and Dortmund could sell him at least 10x more this year. That's more than enough to give Dortmund what they paid him for.
We could have said the same about Ronaldo but he did us that very favour and we were able to get the most out of that deal. I am not saying that Jadon will surely sign a new contract with Dortmund. However there's a possibility that he could. Very few players likes to burn bridges with clubs that were responsible in making him a super star especially since they might return there at one point (Gotze, Kagawa)

We told Ronaldo to stay since we needed him to win us 18th PL title. Dortmund needs Sancho to win Bundesliga? Well, not with Bayern Munich is strengthened their squad.

When comparing Sancho's case, should compare his case to Lewandowski's case not Ronaldo's case.

That doesn't matter if Dortmund prefers to sell him this year right? You aren't going to tell me that Dortmund would rather to sell him much cheaper next year to other club just to piss us off.
Its not the first time Dortmund acting stubborn in transfer for their best player. They have good history of that (Lewadowksi etc). There's no guarantee they would learn this time.

If they want to act stubborn then let them be, because the one is crying is Dortmund not us.

You do get the feeling the next couple of days could be significant in this saga. Really hope we push it over the line.

We asked to stay so we could negotiate with Real on our terms

No threadmarks, or tweets in this thread's last couple of pages or in the transfer thread. Newsnow neither. Can't be arsed to look further.

What's the white smoke suggestion in the titel about?

the only news we had was Romano saying both clubs talked all day yesterday and same today. So we haven't walked.

White smoke was a meme, someone took a picture of OT where white smoke was seen coming from stadium. People joked it was sancho announcement video, other talking about signing the pope.

Isn't Lewandowski case of player preferring to go on free transfer and Bayern not making a reasonable bid.

Seems like the Dortmund squad got a couple of days off before starting their training camp in Switzerland. Delaney was in Denmark yesterday, so I wouldn't read much into Sancho flying to London.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for transfers of this size.

When journalists say they're in talks all days is it...

United: "£90 million."

Dortmund: "£120 million."

United: "Very well.....£90.1 million."

And so on.
It’s probably is like negotiating 10p off a fake football shirt abroad at a market. You’re so adamant you want 10p off that you waste 30 mins of your time negotiating before you get that win. Walking away smug even though he would’ve taken 50p off from the next guy.

Has there been a comparable transfer that went this far and failed? I have not followed all transfers closely so curious. Seems so many have little faith in this.
I can't see the signs this is failing.

Not completely, but some big transfers at the time we seemed in the lead: Hazard, Ramsey

Ronaldinho, Thiago, Griezmann, Dybala and others as well. It’s a hard life to be a proper muppet.

Ramsey's transfer is not really comparable to this. He was just a young prospect at Cardiff who was attracting attention of Utd and Arsenal. Sancho is more in the Rooney category where though he's young, he's already more or less proven his worth and you know he's gonna be a superstar.

And I don't remember us ever being this close to Hazard. The likes of Real, Chelsea, City and ourselves were all in the mix if I'm remembering correctly.

Edit- As @Acquire Me says it's the likes of Thiago and Griezmann that seemed destined to join us, only for that to never happen.
