The clubs as well as the FA and government are responsible to ensure they survive, not Man Utd though. We just have to do our own thing.
That's true, and we are better placed than most clubs. I just hope we don't see stories of redundancies at the club in 6-12 months time.

Everybody spends within their means.

Aren't they about to give Wilian 150,000 a week and sign Coutinho also?

If they were so worried about finances they could just not sign an extremely expensive player. They don't care about their staff, it's just a good excuse to cut costs.
Totally agree, its abhorrent from Arsenal. And I suppose we need to just trust our club to know that it can afford the outlay for Sancho.

I honestly don't get why anyone would think he's not worth 120 million euros. I get the covid times reasoning a bit. But just as a talent, putting into perspective how much other massive talents have cost, he's worth every penny, if anything he's worth more than that.
Dembele -130M, Couthino 150M, Griezman 120M, Felix 125M

I would say 120M euros for Sancho is not bad at all.Instead of giving 350K a week i prefer to pay 250K basic and 100K as performance bonuses if we had to.

Wondering if Sancho is marketable as Pogba?

Is he really worth €120m? Seems like a huge gamble at a time like this, as much as we need quality attackers.

Look what happened to Barca with Coutinho.
I think it comes down to the profile of the player and the needs of the squad.

Taking your Barca and Coutinho example, they bought him to replace Iniesta, and there were plenty of people who knew what they were talking about saying that it was move doomed to failure because Coutinho is a completely different profile of player to Iniesta.

With us and Sancho, we desperately need a proper presence out on the right - someone who can closely replicate what Rashford does out on the left. We also need someone who can share the creative burden with Bruno and Pogba. In Sancho, we have someone who can do both.

I really do think it's a no brainer.

How many of those transfers have seemed worth it in retrospect?

Not quite as upbeat as some wrt our prospects of signing Sancho. It's a case of meeting Dortmund's valuation and I just can't see Woodward going that high. Not can I see him successfully negotiating that price downwards.

I think it's more a case of adding in bonuses as opposed to a guaranteed amount of 120M Euros.

I’m looking forward to the tweet. A picture of Jadon in the new shirt with a big grin and a caption of “Achtung baby” above...

As per Romano, we have agreed 250K per week, so something around what Martial and Rashford earns.

We backed ourselves into a tight corner such that there is no way we can pull out of the deal at this stage without the club upsetting the fans and possibly the player himself. We are on the upward trend, he is seen as a player that will cement that and we have made it seem like it him or bust.

He will pay up and Dortmund know that.

Still hoping that the Dortmund briered deadline of the 10th actually gives Utd the hurry up or do we need a Bruno to Barca like story for that to happen.

The revisionism regarding David Gill, with respect to transfers, really has been something else. Have people really forgotten the numerous deals that fell through under his tenure? He has a world more transfer failures than Woody. In fact, Woodward has presided over many more successful high profile transfers for us than Gill has. The difference between the two of them is the fact that Gill had the greatest manager in history working with him, so he could botch the signing of Ronaldinho or Hazard and instead provide SAF with a brick and the great man would win the league with it. Woody has had three failed managers so obviously the transfers will end up looking worse.

The only reason things were rosy before was because Sir Alex was the manager, its not because the people in the boardroom were a class above the ones we currently have now or anything like that.

Why cant we agree to 60M upfront, 40M next year and another 20M (all in euros) if we win any of League/champions League or Ballondor AND announce the deal?

They want to avoid our situation with Inter on Lukaku where we got big money but with so little time to spend it. Whether they will stick to the deadline and risk receiving half of their demands next summer is anyone's guess but I have a feeling that if we don't sign him this window we never will.

The fact that this deal is being negotiated through third parties means you can't trust anything from the press. Even if it directly from the clubs themselves.
If the deal is off, we all will hear.

Agree with this, Gill is lucky that he had Sir Alex who could mitigate the impact of his major misses and more importantly Sir Alex had a long term plan. If Woodward had been CEO during that golden era we would have won a couple more CLs.

The thing here is that Woodward has the ear of the owners and can convince them to anything he suggests. Also more often than not he won't walk away from a deal even if he is charged huge fees as we saw with Maguire. I'd imagine with Sir Alex in charge we would have seen better from some of the big signings we made after he left and would have avoided some big pitfalls.

We need to stay calm and see what happens next, I'm confident he'll be a United player soon, I'm not worried at all.

Covid. Roma wouldn't even stump up 15 million euro for Smalling who excelled there and they wanted to keep. Yeah we need him and i want him here, but Dortmund can go feck themselves if they want 120M for him.

Because Dortmund are playing hardball for all the 120 mill fixed price.

I would also think that United want a more performance based fee/wages since it’s such a big deal and bit risks with this transfer.
I mean just have a look at some big transfers in recent time - Coutinho, Griezmann, Dembele, Felix, Kepa, Jovic... All those would be much more reasonable if they were performance-based rather than fixed price.

60 mill this year + 40 mill next year + 20 mill IF we win CL or Sancho win Ballon d’or
is much more reasonable. Same goes for wages. 200k + 50k IF 10 goals and 15 assists are made.. for example.

This way we can cut our losses a bit if something goes wrong.

Yeah I am also of the opinion that it's this summer or never for this deal

Looking at all the noise it looks like they're just working out how the installments and bonuses will work. They've probably agreed on the price by now.

The problem with this is that we have been such a joke over the last seven years so Dortmund know that we may never win the CL during Sancho's stay here. If they were dealing with Liverpool or Real, for example, the odds would be more favourable.

Didn't they laugh off our last attempt at inputting such clauses during the Mkhitaryan deal?

Just want us to get it done now with the three instalments thing. Really hoped he could be signed in time to meet team in Germany

Yeah, I have a strong gut feeling that says we bought Sanchez's contract out. There's two years left on his contract at 500,000k a week, that's 52m.
So we paid him 52 million just to leave this club so that he can sign a free transfer with Inter. I have a feeling that's what happened.

I think the public generally gets news of transfers at least 24hrs late. It would be daft to think that we get real time updates. Things could be all done or not. So very much like Schrodinger's cat... at this moment, Sancho could both be a United player and BVB player. We shall never know.

To be honest I think 120 million euros is cheap for him. I would say that if there was no covid, they would be wanting more than that (maybe 150 million euros).

Think we all need to see something encouraging again from a reliable source to raise morale a bit

While most people are just zipping and unzipping their pants, you're talking about Schrodinger's cat...
