Hopefully Chelsea sign the freedom fighter permanently.

6th best team in Spain is certainly better than Asean All Stars

Nice goal, hope Chelsea or another team sign him but we're in no position to look down on Sancho unfortunately as we only had 3 or 4 players better than him this season.

To show Chelsea that we're serious, we should double the transfer fee.

"One more thing: Price of the prick going up."

Surely his bargaining power is more limited now than it is in 12 months time?

Assuming his wages are reduced from the reported £350k to £300k due to no CL, he will earn £15.6m in his final season at United. That’s a giant chunk of the hypothetical £39m he’d earn on £150k for 5 years (40% to be exact).

And then he’d be available without a fee. In financial terms, it’s a no-brainer to sit out your contract in his position.
I suppose it depends on the reported wages - I've seen that he was on £300k reduced to £250k this season (with Chelsea covering £200k) with a possible further reduction no European football whatsoever. So in a scenario where his actual wage for this season is closer to £175k then that longer term contract makes more sense but if it's more alongside the £300k mark then it would be silly for him to give up any potential wages.

A year playing regularly it makes sense to run down your contract but it could be detrimental to him if he was at United not making match day squads for a year.

His contract expires next summer and we obviously won't trigger the additional year extension. Sancho's bargaining power is limited, with one year left on reduced wages due to no European football. I think it would be a risk on his part to either stay at United and not play or go out on another loan earning £200k per week for a year before being available on a free. He may well have options but we've seen players struggle to get clubs or be priced out of moves even when available for free. Surely the more sensible move is to sign a circa £150k a week contract with Chelsea for 5 years than have a slightly wage for one year and more uncertainty.

When you can negotiate with a club without any sort of fee involved then you have a massive advantage so a player going into the last year of their contract at any club is in a very good position for negotiations either with their current club or any club that potentially wants them after that year. The only time running down your contract is likely not good is if no one would want to pay you close to your current salary even without a transfer fee.

If United act petty and put him in the reserves for being the petulant prat that he is, his ability to negotiate a good deal for himself next year will be much more difficult.

I can see us being able to sell him to anyone for a net small fee to cover for FFP. Surely there are teams in Spain or Germany where he will be far more suitable than here.

Yeah agree with the general premise. While he might lose out on a bit of money, I do think his preference would be to play in the coming season which may mean lowering his demands slightly. The Rashford situation is more tricky though, supposedly similar/bigger wages but he has 3 more years left on his contract.

I think Chelsea will probably end up signing Sancho though we may need to pay him off to cover part of his wages for next season, to account for the salary reduction.

We’ll continue to look down on players who treat this club like dirt. Give me any single member of our squad over this Cnut. Sancho can feck right off.

I'd imagine the scenario that allows everyone to save face is:
-Chelsea pays the 5M penalty to return him.
-Chelsea pays United a 10-12M transfer fee, or whatever amount is needed to (plus the 5M) cover for FFP.
-Chelsea negotiates with Sancho a 3-4 years contract in significantly lower wages.

A 25M player on high wages on the current performances may not be a good deal, but a 15-17M squad player on normal wages for a team playing UCL next year isn't bad (plus the impact in FFP is minimal). Of course Sancho would have to agree to reduce his next year's wages significantly in exchange for 3-4 years job security and getting his freedom back. Which is not that simple.

Yep - If they sign him (and I still lean more towards them not) I think they’ll try and negotiate a lower fee with us.

Even in that case it's better to run down your contract, because no one will ever pay you anything like what you're being paid now.

It's pretty simple really, if you massively overpay someone on a fixed term contract then it's in their best interests (financially) to see out that contract.

I wouldn't sign him but still a little sad that we're sending him back. He wasn't amazing for us but he wasn't terrible.

Anorim should give him a go. Redemption stories in football are great.

If Mbuemo goes to a domestic rival I think it's perfectly plausible that Sancho is integrated into the team for next season. The loss of the final and the financial economics don't give the club much feasibility to just find a 10 given the circumstances. Given that Garnacho is very likely to be sold from an interpersonal issue with the manager, the team will be light next season.

Also not sold on the square peg round hole situation with Mount / Bruno playing either off the left or right.

Thats massively embarrassing there for Sancho if thats the case. paying that much just so they can be shot of him. Will be even harder to get rid of the muppet now

Maybe the penny will finally drop for him now it’s been made apparent no club wants him. He might actually start giving a shit about his performances on the pitch.

His wages are still an issue, but essentially we need to sell him for £20M to be back where we were. Quite a few teams can afford that

Well today is just getting better and better

Actually if you read the full article it’s not completely done just yet..

5m from Chelsea and we should be able to get at least 20 from another team in the Prem, Germany, Italy or Spain.
