The 10 role in this system is probably more suited to him than any other. He is also quite a composed finisher.
So there is in theory a role for him at a great big club like United.

I just cant see who will buy him without a significant salary reduction, which he wont take.

Not surprised by this, he will most probably find another team in the CL to take him on loan and then sign for a club with sign on fee on top when his contract ends next summer.

Assuming the difference in wage was $100k/w (say $5m), wouldn't we be better off giving that difference to Sancho but gaining the $25m from Chelsea and getting him off the books??
Obviously we have to pay him this last year of big money or do a deal, whatever. But I'm absolutely baffled that he went into talks with Chelsea after his performances for the last 3 years and actually thought he could ask for 250k per week.
Chelsea must have really valued him low considering they could have used the £5million towards his wages. I don't blame them one bit, he is nothing but a squad option.

Playing Devils advocate here, but if you can somehow get him to commit to the footballing project at UTD, he can be a very useful option in that left sided 10 position.

It was a clause written into a purchase agreement between two clubs !! You cannot blame Chelsea for using the clause but you can blame United for allowing it to be included.

I fully expect him to be a United player next season, probably sitting it out for a season more or less. He only cares about money, so he'll stick around and collect his cash then take his chances later on.
