Tbf most of the noise is coming from the United fans. I remember over a month ago, I was saying how bad he has been but Chelsea fans on here were defending him. So, they probably seing things from a different view on him and how he helps to keep possession.
The problem with Sancho is not his talent but his mentality. He does not seem prepared to do the work that is needed to keep his game at a high level. I can't see Maresca tolerating anything other than 100% effort from him.

If the two options we have is paying a penalty fee to send him back to United or pay £25m and sign him up to a lengthy contract, I would absolutely choose to pay the penalty fee and wash our hands of him.
I mean we could get an even better scenario where Chelsea pay us a penalty and then we sell him to some other sucker. He'll continue to get good PR whilst away from Utd for the memes anyway so his stock won't fall too badly.
Thing is, Maresca seems to rate Sancho, he has always backed him and starts most games as well.
He actually suits Maresca's style of play, keep the ball and pass backwards and sideways.
hopefully the penalty clause is sufficient enough that we can sell him for peanuts (or pay him lost wages) and still end up in the same position.
Yep, he only needs 1/2 above average performances before Sky Sports do a whole spread on how he is showing his talent.
They did the same when he went to Dortmund and similar is being done with Rashford for his assists.

What? I was praising individual performances. The problem with this thread has always been that people would flock in here to say 'haha he's been shit yet again', even when he had relatively decent games. I've said he's been shit when I think he's been shit, and I've said he's been decent when I think he's been decent, and I've occasionally defended him when he's actually had a good game but the narrative in here has been 'haha shit Sancho plays shit again'. Context is important.
I never wanted him at Chelsea though. I was annoyed that we were even linked with him, and if there's now an opportunity to get out of the deal, I would want Chelsea to grab that opportunity with both hands and send him packing.
As recently as January you were saying he was having a good season and now you're saying you'd rather pay a penalty fee to "wash our hands of him" and "send him packing".
I just think it's funny, you were told he was lazy and shite and shockingly he's turned out to be lazy and shite.
I presume this post is what you're referring to? Almost all of his games since January have been distinctly average or outright bad. But up until that point, his performances had been relatively satisfactory. I was judging what I was seeing in front of me. As I said, context matters.

It wasn't long ago you were saying he has has more good games than average games. Meaning, average has been his lowest and been good for most of the season.

I mean it was 2 months ago. That's a pretty long time in football when there are matches every week. His performances up until that point had been more good than bad imo. I'm not backtracking that but the season carries on, and he has mostly been average to shit since then, so my evaluation of his season changes with more evidence available. That is surely how it should be?
Whereas what United fans are saying is... his performances haven't changed... Chelsea fans have just realised those "good" performances aren't actually good enough.
Obviously evaluation will change based on evidence.
I just hope that he scores a few more goals till the end of the season, there is one player I do not want to see back at Carrington in pre season and that is Sancho.
I wonder how long his Chelsea contract will be given that they like to protect their players value with 5-7 year deals.
Well if you scroll up a bit I linked a post of mine from January that literally said despite those good performances he hadn't done enough for me to think he's the answer for us long term, so I would argue that at least this Chelsea fan has always agreed with that and the only reason there was ever any arguing between me and United fans in this thread was when his actual good performances were described as shit. I've been pretty consistent on this I think.

Don't think anyone will really touch him at this point. Best we can hope for is to subsidize his wages by 50% and send him to BVB on loan if he comes back.
My take is given the dearth of attacking quality we have, let's keep him around for 6 months and see how he does under Amorim. If it really doesn't work out, teams are usually desperate in Jan for reinforcements anyway and they'll take him for half a season.

Shows what we'd get. It's not all bad and we can't complain about having a player like that while we're sitting 13th in the table. Some decent ability to take on a player and neat passing. Very little defensive work rate, mediocre progressive passing. I think he'll be better than an Eriksen in that #10 role.

Exactly. Players like him should not be entertained at this football club. If for some reason, Chelsea decide to pay a penalty, we need to make sure that he is nowhere near the first team.
Chelsea have done it with their players, we should too. He cannot be anywhere near the team when it comes to pre season.

Won't make any excuses for his behavior. He's a bit of an idiot, that much is true, but I trust the manager to uphold standards. We always have the option of subsidizing the wages and kicking him out, it's extremely easy to do that. I'm only saying that the situation calls for calm assessment. All of these could be true:
(a) He's an average player on extortionate wages
(b) He's an average player we could use currently and is better than existing attackers at the club
(c) G/A stats don't tell the whole story and other stats in the fbref I linked paint a more nuanced picture
(d) Even if you use G/A stats to tell the whole story, his replacements at #10 aren't exactly much better (Zirkzee, Eriksen)
(d) Chelsea don't want a player on extortionate wages on their books despite being more than good enough as a rotation option.
If I were running the club, I'd make some amount of spectacle about a public apology from him, evaluate him for 6 months in the new system and then kick him out if it doesn't perform. There are many more morally questionable idiots plying their trade in the PL (Partey, Benzema, Greenwood etc.). It's fine to kick up a fuss about players like these.
For braindead idiots like Sancho, get as much value from them as possible and move on.

Yeah, people say that we didn’t play the right style for him because we were too direct. However, the reality is that he’s too slow of thought and foot to play a strong role in a technical team. He needs time and space to run into and he can then be a useful player so a counter-attacking team is what suits him. He doesn’t get that time/space regularly at premier league level and he can’t cope.
Everton are way above his level.
It would be hilarious to see Moyes’ reaction to him though.
