Seem like I m being misinterpreted. I m saying we shouldn’t sign Sancho if we can’t fix other areas of our team and we should be cautious about the intra squad conflict. MMM is already one of the best attack in football, so there shouldn’t be any rush to fix what is not broken. Rather we need to support the development of MMM with players who can provide competition for their spot.
I think we might need to wait until a good bit into the new season before we can say this for sure.

Number 7 or number 11?

I actually hope he takes 11. People forget how big that number is for us along with 7.

Giggs and Best.

Let the 7 rest for abit longer. Get rid of that hoodoo.

Eh? Thinking of signing Sancho last year did not take any special vision. ;)
I don't think he's talking about the Sancho deal in isolation.

Getting rid of our highest paid player (Sanchez), our £75m striker (Lukaku), our captain (Young) as well as other deadwood players within a season and putting trust in our young talents shows that he's willing to suffer short-term pain for long-term gain.

The difference in our squad from the team that got beat in Sevilla is night and day. Signing Sancho is a no-brainer obviously, but the culture and mood around the club right now is the reason he wants to be here. I have serious doubts he'd be interested if he was to be playing under Jose and with the likes of Lukaku, Young, Fellaini, Smalling, Lingard, Sanchez etc.

Is Sancho a set piece maestro that will give us another threat for free kicks and penalties? Can he deliver a wicked cross from a corner?

Shout out to that Daniel Harris guy that got the original scoop. Beat all the top journos to the story.

So this whole deal rests on how much is upfront and how the installments are structured. I don't see how this falls apart now. Both sides are negotiating in good faith and we have the person contract agreed.

Assisted a couple of times from corners last season but I imagine Bruno will be taking most of the corners and penalties.

This better not be Pogba MK2:
  • Hugely talented youngster leaves Manchester for club abroad in search of first team football
  • Club abroad nourishes the youngster whilst he becomes the real deal
  • Manchester club spend upwards of 100 million to bring said youngster 3-4 years later
  • Profit?
To put things in a bit of perspective, here's the XI Pogba made his debut with

Compared to the XI that Sancho could potentially line up with this season

He'd be joining a much more well balanced and fluid squad on top of a much younger one.

He's coming into a much better situation football wise than Pogba was after leaving a Juventus squad that had made the Champions League final the year prior. Sancho is arguably joining a stronger side than he played with at Dortmund, I don't doubt that he'd step up for us as well

I feel like I have transcended and either I have become a football knowledgeable god or some people just don’t understand football. Since the addition of Bruno and MMM, our output has been better or even equivalent to Liverpool and City. There is no big difference that exist with our strongest eleven. The only notable difference that exist is squad depth and one that is managerial . The starting eleven is the aspect that I am referring to when I stated that if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. I am well aware that we need more strength in depth. @Dominos and @Gazza
Our attack has been a problem for years so I'm not willing to say it's on par with the best in Europe because of the last 3 months. The more quality you add to attack the more you can offset the loss of injuries/fatigue to key players.

If there's one area I want to have quality in depth it's the attack. Some may disagree but you can get away with having solid but unspectacular playing filling at CB, FB, DM at times. When it comes to winning games you need top quality talents in your attacking positions, they are who make the difference in tight games.

Who is Sancho most similar to in terms of playstyle? Watched him a few times for England but would like the opinion of a Bundesliga watcher.
It's actually hard for me to find a player to compare him to because usually you either have playmaking wingers or the typical modern wide forwards with very clearly defined characteristics but Sancho is really both and I think that is what makes him so outstanding, he is just a very complete player.
I usually refrain from hyping players but if there ever was something like a "Ribery/Robben"-hybrid then Sancho is certainly the closest one I have seen in the last 10, 15 years. The only other comparison that comes to my mind would be someone like Figo who was similarly versatile though I'd say Sancho doesn't have the same technical flair but an even better output (I mean his output is just crazy for his age).
The one area where he needs to improve is that he needs to impose himself more on games (he looked a bit more timid playing for England than for Dortmund imo) but considering his age that's of course asking a lot and I'm sure if his head is right that won't be a problem in the future either.
So considering that some here think there is too much hype about Sancho I actually think he is still somewhat underrated due to Dortmund's role behind us (and thus more limited exposure) and their attempt to not put too much pressure on Sancho.
Except Mbappe I don't think I've seen a more promising teenager (just based on performance, on potential you can always argue that there were others) since Messi/CR.
Terms like "generational talent" often get thrown around easily but Sancho has already created Bundesliga records for his age class and whatever you think about the Bundesliga but even Ribery/Robben at their peak would have had difficulty to produce his numbers:
Ribery's best season was 32 games, 12 goals, 21 assists
Robben's was 26 games, 13 goals, 12 assists

Sancho:
18/19: 34 games, 12 goals, 17 assists
19/20: 32 games, 17 goals, 17 assists

Sancho has already leveled the best seasons of players like Ribery and Robben and that TWO seasons in a row while being 18-20 years old.

Exactly what I meant

The type of profile of player's he's looked at and has signed fits in with how Fergie approached the market. In terms of buying quality young to experienced, often English, talent with view of the future as opposed to also shedding loads of money but for more experienced players mainly for short term gain without much care or thought for long term growth as a squad.

The spine he's developing in his second summer transfer window has the looks of one of the most formidable in the league as is but also with tremendous upside/room for improvement.

For all the criticism aimed at him on the pitch, off the pitch he definitely seems to have quite the right idea in terms of how a proper Manchester United squad should look like and he deserves some credit for it.

Good deliveries from corners and free kicks, but I wouldn't call him a specialist. With Bruno, it doesn't really matter as much, but he's another option. Not sure I've ever seen him take a penalty before.

I don't think it relates to Pogba at all. Pogba was a United player. Sancho was a City player. We can't help that he did not fit into City's plans. If anything, they're kicking themselves and don't want to fork over the money to get him back, or they tried and he does not want to go back to City. Their loss, our gain.

I think that would only add to the hoodoo by being seen to dodge giving it either Greenwood or Sancho when they’d both be obvious candidates for it.

If not your academy golden boy or your new record transfer who both play on the right wing then who will ever take it on?

I’d give it Sancho, it just fits.

Yes and anyone who got a Sanchez no 7 shirt just needs a little bit of work to make it Sancho

Appreciate this post - really interesting analysis. The way you've put it - it does make him sound a lot more impressive than I thought he was. I'm doubly excited now.

The player comparison for me is Hazard. Amazing close control and body movement making him almost impossible to tackle. Not huge long distance speed but great acceleration to get past players. And just as comfortable in wide positions as he is inside playing in the half spaces.

If anything I think he has more potential for output than Hazard if his early numbers are anything to go by.

Sancho is a world class talent, if people are doubting his ability I have no idea what the expectation is for teenagers he's already one of the best forwards in Europe. I did at one point feel he was genuinely being overrated but the hype at that given time has died down. If we get this over the line it's hats off to the management stemming from Ole to the hierarchy as it's a huge signing. Bigger promising signing beyond Pogba due to his age maybe falls just short of Ronaldo.
Nobody is denying his quality. What some of us fear is getting all(?) our transferbudget on one player when there is need for better squadplayers in the team.

If we sign him we all hope it will be fantastic signing.

You’d imagine the remaining €60m probably consists of €10m each summer for the next two seasons, €10m after 50 Premier League appearances, €10m after 20 Premier League goals, €10m for Champions League winners, €10m for Ballon D’Or nomination, €10m/10% sell-on fee etc.

So only €100m guaranteed with other non-guaranteed, aspirational clauses for the other €20m, which anyone here would be gladly pay double if it meant that level of success in Sancho’s time here. Obviously we haven’t a clue about the structure of the deal but the €60m + €60m has been mooted a lot since Harris first broke it so it may have something to it.
Absolutely. So, as long as the deal is exactly as the one you imagined in your own head, it's a great deal!
Life comes at you fast, @POF...

Crazy that we're on the verge of landing a player who can elevate our entire attack and force a higher level of technical football out of literally all of them, and there's people in here that are poo-pooing the signing.

Is this hipsterism at its worst or are there posters with legitimate concerns about someone has earned the right to be classed in the highest tier of wingers currently active in the game?

There isn't a bigger name or higher touted talent United could buy at this current juncture, because above Sancho, you're talking about Neymar, Mbappe, Messi and Mane. Are people processing this and still not wanting the player?

The one I’m thinking of is Haaland, guys a beast.
Yeh but we looking at the entire package. If you give me the choice to swap Haaland and Reus with Marcus and Martial I'm not taking that swap which is essentially your question

No need for him to take any penalties. If we continue to earn penalties as we now do, Bruno may score 25 goals next season if not more.

Sancho’s task will rather be to help earning even more penalties for the team - and Bruno will convert them into more goals

It’s essentially a 2 for 1 swap since Reus is as injury prone as Jones. He won’t be available for more than half a year.

I agree far more with the comparison with Hazard than Ribery/Robben. Which makes me think it's going to be a really tricky job for OGS in order to find a place for both Sancho and Bruno if he signs. Sancho carries the ball a lot and so does Bruno, it's going to be hard for them not to bump into each other, especially because Sancho likes to go from left to right and grab the ball 35m from the opponent's goal.

Not sure about that: Sancho's greatest attribute (imo), beyond his skills and technical ability is how quickly he sees the pitch, reads and reacts to the opposition and his team-mates and pings off them like he's sending sonar - as long as he's interacting with players who have good-excellent one and two touch themselves and a quick enough mind to see the potential of the play that can unfold, Sancho and whoever it is won't get in each other's way, but will instead use each other as foils and dummies.

I'm expecting Fernandes to be in his element pinging balls into, and receiving balls, from Sancho. Same goes for Martial.

It's just imperative they get a good pre-season in to iron out the kinks and get a feel for each other's movements and preferences.
