Boyle was the reason why I'd watch this new one... so unless they get an adequate replacement I'll probably end up skipping it.

Just can't take Craig as Bond.
Worst Bond by far. By the way, The Telegraph says that Boyle quit over a dispute with Craig as well as with the producers.

However one industry source told the Telegraph the split was due to a fall out over whether to cast Tomasz Kot as the lead villain. The 41-year-old Polish actor stars in Cold War, a love story set in 1950s Europe, and was described as a "left-field" decision for a Bond enemy.

"Craig has a big say in all the casting decisions. None of the Bond girls have been chosen without his say so," the source said.

"For example he chose Eva Green to be the Bond girl when it came to the final four for Casino Royale and that has been the case for all the Bond girls he has worked with."

A direct clash between Craig and Boyle could have been the cause of the rift which has thrown the Bond franchise into chaos.

"It was telling the producers put his [Craig's] name on their release saying that Boyle had been sacked," the source said.

Craig as bond is weird because overall I think he has been shite but Casino Royale is one of my.favourite bond films.

Same with Brosnan and Goldeneye but Brosnan is probably my favourite but one good movie does nothing to justify that.

Basically Bond as a whole is weird as feck.

Are you not thinking of Moore/Brosnan here? Connery was the first Bond and sort of the original take on the character which set the tone, and Dalton's Bond was notorious for having a darker edge between the zaniness of Moore and Brosnan.
Sorry yes I meant Moore.

Villeneuve would be a no brainer, the Blade Runner sequel was basically a sci-fi Bond flick.
You mean you want another Bond which is endlessly long and has a bad family twist, a horrendous villain and no fun at all? I could happily do without that;)

Interesting to see a few poster not liking Daniel Craig as Bond.

I remember the blue eyes and blonde hair look got a lot of flack when he was cast for Casino Royale, but I thought that he had won most people over.

I actually quite like him as Bond, and Casino Royale is probably my favourite Bond film. I would have said that he is head and shoulders above Lazenby, Brosnan and Dalton. I'd even rank him higher than Moore...

I agree with that, it particularly didn't help that he clearly didn't want to do the last one so it had his usual lack of charm married to him phoning in his performance. The direction they've taken Bond also isn't that interesting.

I hope that he's more engaged this time and enjoys himself a bit more and tries to go out on a high with more charm and fun, I don't care about Bond's childhood and I'm not really interested in him being a mopey, tortured soul for another two hours.
Yes, we have quite enough of that with Jose.

I'm thinking from the producers point of view, he'll deliver another slick, soulless Daniel Craig entry in the Bond canon. None of that bright, kinetic Danny Boyle shtick, just another safe, crisp, Deakins shot Bond.

I have to say that it's not entirely his fault and the producers are equally liable but he and that turn in Bond's image completely killed the franchise for me, it became just another pointless and often boring action movies. He's such an ill fit too — hardly any charisma, swagger or wit (at least in his scenic image), that made Bond (be it Connery or Moore or even Brosnan), well, Bond.

Craig’s Bond with a healthy dose of sexism/racism is basically the original character Fleming wrote (except for being short, blond and blue-eyed). Connery clearly set the tone and became the long lasting expectation of what the character should be but it doesn’t mean Craig has done a bad job.

Casino Royale was clearly the best of his Bond films though. All went downhill from there.

Who will play Bond? Seeing Fassbender's name in this thread makes me think he'd be a great Bond IMO.

It's still Daniel Craig.

Cary Fukunaga seems like the kind of guy who'll take direction from Daniel Craig and Barbara Broccoli. I expect the series to continue it's post Casino Royale free fall.

I mean, have you seen his films? They are all phenomenally directed, same with the first season of Trued Detective. He's also a very very talented screenwriter, so he'll definitely have some say. I don't know why you think that he 'seems like the kind of guy who'll take direction from Daniel Craig and Barbara Broccoli'?

Yeah, doesn't make sense to me either. Fukunaga is a fantastic choice. I expected a safe choice after the Boyle sacking but Fukunaga is even bolder and more exciting than Boyle.

A German playing James Bond. Now if that aint proof of globalization, I don't know what is.

Fassbender would be great though. Terrific actor.

edit: wait, he's actually irish, but from German decent, nevermind then.

I mean, I have. Also, I think the first series of True Detective is amazing, though it's television and wasn't the director's baby, it was Nic Pizzolatto's. I am not doubting his talent or potential for one second.

However, my feeling is that he's a more pliable director than Danny Boyle and the direction will be heavily influenced by the lead actor as it's his last performance as Bond.

That's assuming he doesn't slash his wrists and return again after another traumatic month of press junkets where he's once again incredibly rude to journalists there to promote the film for which he was paid millions to be in.

Where does that feeling stem from? It's well-documented that he and Pizzolatto feuded on the 'True Detective' set, and that Fukunaga for instance insisted on the famous long-take. He was also removed from the 'It' remake because the producers felt they couldn't control him. And 'Beasts of no Nation' is a radical, distinctive film. So there's not really much supporting the idea that he would be Craig's puppet - on the contrary, he's a more radical and visionary director than Boyle.

I guess Fukunaga's take on it was more in line with what they wanted compared to Boyle. He's certainly not some no name, yes-man they can boss around.

Mostly because this is a huge step up for him and that Bond directors have been famously compromised over the years. Let's see. If it's more than a paint-by-numbers Craig-era Bond, I owe you a Coke.

Is there any word on the plot for this one? If Craig is in this then where can they take his Bond from here?

I think they should have moved on from Craig and gone in a new direction.

For me the obvious choice is to (sort of) remake OHMSS and have the movie pick with Blofeld escaping, killing Madeleine and thus leading Bond to hunt for revenge. I feel that would be a decent enough farewell to Craig’s Bond.

Daniel Craig’s version of Bond is the only one that went along with the books. He is up there with Connery. Moore was terrible except Live and Let Die. Brosnan was a joke - not tough enough.

For some reason Fassbender always annoys the shit out of me. He has an accent no matter what language or dialect he speaks and it's always the wrong one. For some reason his inconsistency annoys the shit out of me. Not a terrible actor mind you but every role he plays it just think - yep, thats Michael Fassbender again.
