James Garner - Player Watch

People keep pushing the narrative of hindsight bias, but why do people think Ferguson hung on to so many players for so long? I think Darron Gibson was 25 when he left. There is no way that he would have sold a player liker Garner og Alvaro before 22 years of age.

I’m also not sure it is true that it did Garner that much good to leave. Dyche did not suite his style at all. But maybe avoiding the train wreck of a club that is Man Utd was good for him. Maybe.

The caf was happy with the sale? Off course they was. Because two posters in here managed to convince people that Galbraith, who has spent most of his time in League Once since, was more talented since he was «press resistant».

Garner actually played in the first team he made 7 first team appearances. He didn’t do much in those appearances hence why we sold him. Alvaro never played in the first team so it’s completely different to Garners situation.
Thank god you aren't in charge of youth development anywhere if you think that 7 games, largely as either sub or starts in XI's that represented nothing close to a first team, is enough to judge how far along a player is, then no one will ever be good enough.

Calm down, did I say it was 7 games was enough to judge? I’m merely explaining how his situation is different to Alvaro situation has he didn’t get to play at all! And no I don’t think 7 games is enough to judge a youth player.

A simpler time.

I assume coming on as a 90th-minute substitute for Fred in a 3–1 league win away to Crystal Palace is one of these 7

I’m sure the remaining 6 appearances were similar

Their respective seasons in the championship is a far better barometer to compare them than the 7 sporadic games and low minutes that JG managed at the club

Your "location" has just given me mad reminisce vibes. Good times.

According to Paul Joyce he's going to sign a new contract along with Pickford. Tarkowski signed a new 2 year deal today.

So according to transfermarkt, he's valued at €25million. But depending on what sources, we may or may not have a buy back clause.

If not, I'd see Everton wanting no less than £60 million for him or something stupid like that.

I deliberately watched Garner today, and I was genuinely impressed with his contribution. Whether the United hierarchy are/will consider him in the summer, who knows, but he was everywhere. Deservedly m o m.

He also has a demand for a gold Firebird in any negotiations. Dammed agents

If he is available on a free this summer it is a no brainee to get rid of Ugarte and bring him in. Makes football and financial sense.

He is not, but it still makes sense to bring in a player that is this good both as a six and an eight. He is also good as a fullback and homegrown.

I think we need to bring him back this summer, whether he's available on a free or not. Never given a real chance here and he has gone on to prove that he is more than good enough at the PL level. In addition to his great engine and passing range, he also has a great set piece on him.

Noticed that not many seem keen on Wharton. Have no strong opinion on it but isn’t he supposed to be a big talent?

He just looks a bit narrow in his skillset to me. Very good at one thing, moving the ball forward quickly. He sees that first time pass very well.

The rest of his game is just OK to decent.

I think Garner has more to his game. But then I've always been a fan of Garner. Watched him a lot in U21's.

Garner is better than Stiller
Would rather try Stiller than a rejected United retread who's halfway decent on a mid table Everton level side. He is so what we don't want. Christ, I prefer Ugarte. I see zero reason to bring him over and am confident no one in United's braintrust would even give him a second thought.

Garner has been above and beyond Baleba this season and although I rate Anderson higher than Garner, Garner has outperformed him in both games we played vs Forest this season.
Stiller is the only one his age, so felt it's the closest comparison. Anderson isn't much younger to be fair, and he's been all the hype this season. I think Ugarte largely outperformed Baleba this season, so that's a low bar!

Long story short, Garner is a very good player and certainly worth consideration for us
