How much have you watched JWP play? If you think free kicks and set pieces is all he has then i dont think you have watched him that much.. This report is 2 years old, but its spot on. https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/james-ward-prowse-southampton-ralph-hasenhuttl/
Agree with everything you said and what this report says. Love watching him play, dirty little cnut with great work ethic and a marvelous wand of a foot. Would add everything to Utd's midfield that Fred hasn't.

Probably not as much as a Southampton fan, but enough to gauge that he'd struggle to make a step up and start regularly for a club competing at the top end of table
Obviously not, cause your commenting on his creativity even though he is a dm, he is also only one league goal and 1 assist behind your attacking mid bruno... Yet jwp plays at a poor saints team while your cms and dms are surrounded by world class attacking talent.. If you have some of the best attackers but are still struggling, some how i dont think creativity from your defensive mids is going to help your teams lack of ability to contain teams and keep possession of the ball..

Do you watch games or just highlights on motd?

And how many of them came from free-kicks and set pieces?

DM's can be creative as well, look at Rodri and Fabinho. Carrick for us, even Rice for West Ham creates a lot with his driving runs. Creativity isn't just measured in assists. He'd be an improvement on Fred but doesn't mean we should be going for him at £35m+. He won't be good enough for a top top team and that will be proved if he ever gets a move which I doubt as he's 27 and still at Southampton.

You clearly didnt read the scout report, neither do you watch him and since when did set plays not count?.

He'd be a nice squad player and could be beneficial in certain games and formation. Fred and McTominay have bite just like JWP, also industrious, but he is a bit more cultured on the ball from open play and obviously is tops at dead balls.

He's not going anywhere as he just signed a 5 year deal last year.

He has really kicked on this season. More then a freekick specialist now.

He is just an all-round good player. Attitude, grit and captain material. Plus his foot is Beckhamesque

I would buy him to play Right back. Chap knows how to deliver a cross.

Not like the shite we have in Dalot and Wan Bissaka.

Neat and tidy player, very good engine and suited to a pressing team. The great delivery is a plus. I'd take him at United for sure.

Wonder if he wants to stay in Soton this summer also, on current form he must be in contention with the World Cup squad.

He's been on the fringes of the England squad for years so he'll definitely be in contention. I'm not convinced he's that great beyond his world class dead ball skills though.

The only thing is he’s a very safe player, in that you rarely see him make a great throughball or try take players on moving forward. I think seeing as we’ve loaned Donny out there’s no way we’d go for him. His set pieces are worth 40m alone though

He is far more than just a dead ball specialist, his range of passing is excellent, covers the ground, works hard and can deliver crosses for fun.

I would love for him to be wearing a United shirt next season.

Should we get this fellow just so that the free kick record stays in home?

Sell mctominay on and bring ward-prowse in, a much better squad player to come off the bench and change things

I think Pickford should have saved it. It wasn’t in the corner

A lot of Saints fans have questioned his performances this season. Obviously always a danger from free-kicks but his overall contribution has apparently not been as good.

A team should just buy him to sub him on for a free kick then sub him off again

Quite far out, not a huge amount of power and quite central. Shocking from Pickford.

Prowse is one of the best free kick takers ever though. The stats don't lie.

His conversion rate is unreal and he’s genuinely up there in the conversation about the best free kick taker or all time. In my lifetime it’s between him and Juninho - Messi might be the GOAT and his free kicks world class, but these lads were even better.

IMO he is an underappreciated footballer too. Would look great in a good team. Not that different from Eriksen, but quicker with more energy and stamina.

I don’t know if he’s good enough for United but I know that he’s too damn good for the Championship. Someone should snap him up when the saints go down.

His overall play is more than decent too. Obviously not to the level of his free kicks which are not just world class but absolutely GOATed. But there’s still a pretty decent squad player there, for a big club. I mean if players like McTominay, Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek, Naby Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc. are having careers at top clubs as squad players, it’s hard to argue that Ward-Prowse can’t.
