Jarrad Branthwaite

The asking price was abit bonkers but I read he had a good individual campaign.

Not close to worth the quoted prices last summer.

He was/is to us which is why that price was set and like every fee spent for a player, it only ends up not being worth it for the buying club in the case of them being shite for them.

Would’ve much preferred we paid up for Branthwaite than spunk €50m on De Ligt.
I think it’s a case of both. Very different stages of their career. De Ligt came in at about 37m pounds which was around half of what Branthwaite was going for and has more experience. I’d love to add Branthwaite as our left sided CB. I think him, De Ligt and Yoro is a trio that would work incredible well and has a lot of years ahead of them. I don’t see him as an either or signing with De Ligt. I expect the latter to get better season on season.

I just don’t think De Ligt has the pace to be a truly top defender. He was mostly fit this season but has had his fair share of injuries as well. I do think you are right that with two pacy defenders either side of him De Ligt could look the part. But I also think we should be getting players without serious deficiencies for such amounts.

Reported that we are discussing a new contract with him to make him one of the top earners at the club.

They only have 14 players at the moment! If he wants a new contract he can demand what he wants.

If, and I say this with all due respect, he wants to move on in a year or two - then hopefully his agent has enough sense to build in some safeguards and he doesn’t end up like Kane or Zaha.

Since Heaven is looking so promising as an LCB, I have lost my interest for Branthwaite as our left footed CB.

However, If Heaven is able to play 2/3rds of his current performances spread across a whole season then I think he probably has nailed down that LCB spot and then Martinez will be leaving.

This might lead to us coming back for Branthwaite in the future because If I understand 343 right then the CCB needs to play almost like a giant/sweeper. This is why Maguire has been really good there whilst our wider CB's play the passes. If we ever end up pursuing signing Branthwaite again it's because he will be our replacement for Maguire as the dominant CCB but also having the ability to cover/play at LCB.

The one thing that I get worried about is that we actually tried to sign him under Ten Hag - who predominantly tries to sign ex Ajax, ex Eredivisie or Dutch players. I think in that season's transfer window everyone had matched that criteria except Ugarte & I wonder if Branthwaite was loved up by Ten Hag due to him having a good loan at PSV.

1 year left on his contract right? Probably sensible to just see it out at this point and get a free transfer next summer.

Hang in there Jarrad, and this time next year who knows? Maybe a move to Fulham or something

Nope. He has a contract until 2027 and we have an option to extend that by a further year.

It's all down to price and his previous price tags were crazy off target.

If he’s smart he shouldn’t renew. Being tied to a club that’s going nowhere isn’t beneficial to players who want to win honours. They’ll be under real pressure to sell him next summer and United will have a Maguire size hole in the team.

Good for him. We have three years of him if we want to if he doesn't renew. Bit odd to suggest we are a club going nowhere too. We have just got new owners that are going to pump some investment into the squad for the first time in a while and we will be moving into our new stadium. If things are done correctly then Everton have a pretty promising future.

Surely you’ll need an experienced and preferably English captain to lead you into this new era.

Haven’t done anything of note this century. Have a barebones squad, yeah they need massive investment to stay 13th. Like I said if he’s smart he won’t extend.

Well, you realistically have two as you probably dont want to lose him for free. In fact, it is probably better to sell him with two years left on his contract than one.

A good case for both him and Everton is him leaving for a decent fee next summer. At 24 it will probably be a good time for him to make the next step.

From 2014 to 2024 Everton has spent €1bn on players, the 18th highest spenders in the whole of Europe in that time.

What makes you think the new owners spending some money will change things.

Everton will be improved next term, I have no doubt about that. Moyes will have them moving in the right direction. Branthwaite is a key part to them building in a positive manner and I am sure that the blues will do their very best to keep him tied up no only for the remaining years of his existing deal but beyond.

I think he probably will leave. I don't think we will stand in his way if a fee we deem appropriate is met. If he shows he's good enough then it will be which I expect to be the case.

Most Newcastle type of signing I can imagine. Think a year or two more at Everton would be good for him.

Would love to see him at Man Utd. But dont know if that is possible.

I am loving the sight of Everton fans crowing about how they’re a club going places, how they have new owners that are going to flash the cash, etc.
Maybe I’m showing my age, but it’s so reassuring to know that some things will never change.
Next up, Moyes will claim that he has never been given big money to spend on a striker - when in fact, he was repeatedly given big sums only to find that James Beattie, Andy Johnson, Yakubu and Nikicia Jelavic weren’t actually very good.

They finished comfortably ahead of your lot this year + have finally some investment.

How highly do you rate him? I much prefer him to Guehi and think he's England's top CB in waiting. Obviously for LFC, Guehi makes sense.

Also, the investment, what sort of levels are they suggesting?

I think they've actually turned things around a bit and have been making some great signings on a shoestring budget. Ndiaye for 18m is hard to argue with. Maybe it wont work out so well when they have a bit more money to spend but they have a skeleton of a competent team. Buy some full backs and a striker and they're probably a solid midtable team.
Branthwaithe is only 22, even signing a 5 year contract means he can move at a good age for a centre back. Get a good deal from everton, get a couple more years football under his belt and the 80m fee's will look more reasonable at 24 / 25 than they do now. Worst case scenario you have to wait a couple of years to run down your contract. Or maybe everton and solid mid table premier league is his level at which point he's one of their best payed players and its hard to complain about that.

A sensible post. :)

They have no players, of course they will need some investment. Finishing ahead of United no denying, but still remains they’ve done nothing of significance this century, nor are they anywhere near winning a major honour, unlike United who made it to a cup final last year and have won plenty of trophies in the very recent history.

We will need to keep an eye on the homegrown count.

JB makes sense as a Maguire replacement in that context.
