As expected, Jess Park makes the move from City to United.



Forgetting about Clinton for a sec, I’m actually really excited for this. She’s another young, talented attacking midfielder who can play on the wing as well. She has a lot of experience already while still only being 23, and I think she has potential to be a great player for us.

Contact until 2029, and she has seen lots of Manchester United playing against us. I see this as a clear sign she is impressed by Marc Skinner with the confidence of signing such a long term contract.

For Lionesses she mostly played on the wing, for City she plays more centrally apparently

Sarina plays Le Tissier at right back (if she plays at all) so not sure we should place too much stock in Lioness positioning!

I like that Park can play wide as well as central - I think it'll make it easier to fit her into the lineup without us losing the "glue" effect that Toone's movement gives us.

Admittedly a lot depends on what shape our formation takes but if we want a 4222 option to go with our 433, she may offer us a better balance with Toone than Clinton could. I'm very hopeful about Zigiotti/Miyazawa giving us a solid base whatever midfield configuration we're using.

That said, I don't watch City often unless we're playing them. So I remember her best for her wide play.
 
I like the Park signing. She is quality and versatile. I agree that Zigiotti and Miyazawa are fixtures as a 6 and 8 (interchangeable) If there is an injury there then Janssen or Naalsund steps in.

Park can comfortably play in a 2 - 2 midfield, if we go for that. Or, as I've said before, an alternative to Bizet wide right.

I think we have quality in every position and am excited to see Rolfo, who can play LB, LWB and LW. I would have liked to have seen us sign another CF, but I am really happy with the balance of the squad. We have made good signings and have lost very little.

Have to be careful with this though. I was singing "cobblers, you're a twit" for 20 years and no one told me.

That comment reminded me - I wish they'd let us have a (video) wander around how the women's training centre has ended up. Someone said they were coming back to a better setup than they left. Less facilities shared with the Academy for example - so less scheduling issues and easier for players doing rehab physio programs etc.

I like her enthusiasm, she reminds me of Ella despite coming from the other side of the red divide :lol:

It's actually England who are unoriginal. London City used to be Millwall FC's women's team, and Millwall's nickname is The Lions (and their kop is The Den), so they were Millwall Lionesses.

They went independent in 2019 and were rebranded, then Michele Kang took over in 2023.

I had to be reminded of the Millwall connection to the Lionesses name myself recently... I'm of an age that any association with Millwall makes me immediately detest them even more, but I am at least interested in who got to the Lions first - England or Millwall?

England (men) have never been known as The Lions. The Three Lions on a Shirt song (1996) sort of made that a thing and is probably the reason for the media giving the women the Lionesses nickname
Not really sure on that. The only Lions I know of, apart from Millwall, are the British and Irish Lions (rugby)

Millwall Lionesses date from 1973.

When I said unimaginative name, I was refering more to ‘London City’ :D

That England NT lacks imagination needs no proof. Suffice it to utter the spell ‘Garethio Southegato!’

Ahhhh ... I thought you meant - well it's obvious what I though!

As for London City being unimaginative, I don't mind it. It's about time the capital featured in a football club name.

Disagree. Roma, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Paris St Germain, Union Berlin, Hertha Berlin, Spartak Moskva, FC København … I feel it’s done to death. Besides it’s some cheek implying that ‘Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea etc aren’t representing London as much as us’ :P

If they’d called themselves London Calling FC I’d be all for it though.
 
Looks like she will be a good fit in this team to me. Powerful, direct. I haven't seen much of her before coming here so I base this on very little, but she seems like she is a better stylistical fit than Clinton. If that turns out to be the case, I'd say we have done really well with a bad situation (Clintons contract etc.)
 
I feel sure that Park will make us all forget about Clinton, and in fairly short order.

Clinton is a different sort of player, yes, but I think Park suits our play much more. She’s really skillful with her dribbling and clever with her movement between the lines. Helps with unlocking teams I think.
 
Her close control and movement is very impressive. Can’t be too greedy but if only she had more lower body strength and could win those ground duels… Like Rolfö she seems a bit soft and in matches like yesterday we need more physicality.
