Jenas was defending him today like this was an isolated performance or an isolated period of form, but I think this is more like his standard performance and that purple patch a couple of years ago was an anomally.

He hasn't played in months.
It's been even longer for Pogba yet he doesn't look like he's missed a beat.

Okay 0/10 was a reason too because his performances are terrible and frustrating since now at least 18 months.
I was always a fan of him, i have never abused him and he has showed between 2015-2018 that he could be a good squad player for us or a good player for a club like for example Newcastle.
But whatever has happened since August 2018 in his life (He has played 72 games) is that his performances were 90% not good enough for a club with title ambitions and right now he would be lucky to get a move to for example Aston Villa.

Today: His movement was totally brainless (His biggest strength between 2015-2018), so many backpasses and not enough fighting spirit in the tacklings (if you have a bad match).
You do realise when you rate Player 'A, B, C or P' out of 10 in any particular match you ignore what happened in previous matches don't you? Maybe not.

If he is here next season and getting minutes then I’m Ole out
He will be here next season. He is on 100k a week and the footballing world is going to be very selective with who they sign.

At this stage its Ole's fault for playing him. Jessie gives 100% effort but just isn't talented enough. The goals and assist tally's since 2019 proves that.

If someone starts a go-fund-me campaign to pay united £5 million pounds to get this joker off the books I will make a contribution.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Appreciate his good level of efforts today. Made himself more visible this time. Many of his play didn't work.

Unfortunately it's clear as day, he's done. Time to move on.
Hope Ole will finally stop with this undeserved favoritism.

Honestly in the first half at some point he did that little run just outside the box where he displayed quick feet before ultimately falling over and the commentators were like 'he's started really well Jesse Lingard hasn't he?' and I had to do a double take because I didn't realise he was on the pitch.

So then I started to notice and he was genuinely hiding from the ball at every opportunity. I used to despise Tom Cleverley for running into areas where he was never actually an option to pass to and Jesse did that as soon as I was alerted that he was actually playing so I can only assume he was doing that before too. Don't feel bad for Norwich going down to 10 men because we had 10 men for most of the match.

We have so many games in such a short period, Ole has to rotate. In the big games he has been conspicuously absent. Not even on the bench. He has Raiola as his agent now. He’ll likely be gone next season. The club wants shot of him I feel. But with this level of fixture congestion, we still have to make prudent use of all the players at our disposal.

Still think he has to leave for a country not that familiar with him. Where they sign an England international very famous on social media

I have no idea what he does in training to still get starts. Must look like the biggest world beater alive.

You're correct about the rotation of the squad.

I still don't see anyone buying him for next season, especially when factoring in his salary. Post pandemic clubs aren't going to be spending money like drunken sailors or bored housewives any more.

I do wonder if there’s more to the story with him.

His performances have dropped off a cliff, and its not like he’s been injured.

Taking wages out of the equation, it’s probably best for his career to leave and try and rebuild himself a bit.

People here ask why we are not challenging for the title yet they are busy justifying Lingard being in the team. Players like him and a few others is the reason we are where we are.
spot on

we(club and fans)seem to have this weird loyalty about holding on to players far too long or to bring them back into the coaching staff and now management for no logical reason whatsoever.

Lingard, mata,Jones, pereire and dalot should have been gone years ago.

football is a ruthless results based business and you need the best people from top to bottom.

shape up or ship out.

simples.

Why don’t we try put him out on the right? I just don’t think he’s good enough to play through the middle.

Conte might like him. We need to try at least.

If anything it should be called a go-feck-me campaign instead, having to pay money to get rid of a pointless player like him.

The hate on Jesse is disturbing, some of you seriously need to get a life.
Is it really much of a hate or just stating the obvious? If I am this bad at my job I would be locked up in a penitentiary. He simply does not deserve what he is currently being paid and same goes for Mata, Jones, Sanchez and Rojo. They are all stealing a living.

I don’t want to just say ‘pathetic performance’ or ‘he’s shit’ because I think that’s already been established by previous posts by others. However;

Yesterday he looked a yard or two slower than players around him. He couldn’t change his direction quickly and looked outmuscled at times too. This caused him to constantly look unbalanced and not in control of the ball.

In the few occasions he did end up in positive positions his quality was lacking (been like this for 18 months).

In my opinion we need to use every resource (Raiola!!) to get him moved on in the summer. If we bring in Sancho we need another winger who can come on in games defenses have sat back and space is limited. In games teams are pushing for an equaliser then James is ideal for his speed.

I feel for Lingard.

There is a rational reason managers keep picking him you know.

There are certain metrics football managers monitor their players on in training and in games and my feeling (and I'm pretty sure from managers interviews this has been confirmed?) that Lingard performs well or better than other players at them.

And that bears out in some stats that come out from time to time - he's usually up there or thereabouts in fastest player stats, and his distance covered is usually in the 12km region when he plays 90minutes which is fantastic.

But he panics a bit on the ball and never looks comfortable or seems to switch his brain on before he plays a ball He plays overly simplistic football in the final third. He misses big chances at times that cost us, and he sometimes stops good counter attacks right in their tracks by poor decision making (and decisions are everything to a counter attacking).

If anyone watches much championship or league one football, he's like the archetypical player that's been released (or sold cheaply) from a Premier League club - I came name a few from ourselves that are very Lingard-esque in Tom Lawrence and further down the pyramid - Larnell Cole. You can see "something" there when they play but it's not enough.

Showing more and more that he isn't good enough even to just be a squad player anymore.

He's definitely lost a lot of sharpness, I remember reading before the matches resumed again that Lingard registered the highest top speed in training, or something like that. Yet I constantly see him being outpaced and outmuscled, he just never commits to 50/50 challenges and is the ultimate sideways-pass merchant.

Ole hasn't started him in a league game since New Year's Day. The 'favouritism' ended ages ago.

I was looking forward to seeing him play (unbelievably) after some positive comments about his mindset during the break. At first he got on the ball a few times and then as others have said, he did that little run where he beat a couple of players close to the box and I though “oh ok, maybe we will see an improvement after all”

I then got in to the game and was very surprised on the 42nd minute to hear the commentator say “lingard” when he got the ball......and then I realised my brain was telling me “you’ve literally forgot he was playing and you have not heard his name even being mentioned to remind you to watch him more closely” and I was actually blown away!!

How could I forget a player was playing that I actively set out to keep a close eye on?!?!?

I honestly think he avoids the ball at this point.

Lingard's form over the course of the season is fair to criticise. Its extremely harsh to be overly critical of last night though, given it was his first game in around 3 months. He's not the only player to struggle on his first game back.

We've already tried him there. He's Crap. Doesn't matter where we play him, he's not suddenly going to turn into a good player. We just need to get rid and be done with it. We've apparently got strength in depth but it's mostly a bench half full of players that aren't good enough for us anymore when we are playing our best team.

It’s nowhere near the hate pogba received.
Pogba was always a good player but jesse just clearly doesn’t have it anymore.

you say it was a 6/10 performance but seriously as an attacking player (he played LW) what did he do all match?

the only attacking play I can remember was the dribble through the middle in the first few minutes. After that he literally contributed nothing apart from slowing down attacks or passing overly safe.

as somebody else stated about similarly to pereira he’s a specialist at nothing. The only above average trait is his work rate but you can find any old premier league player to do that.

right now in the league there’s probably 10 wingers I’d take over him outside the top 6 and that says something.

He just doesn't suit your style of play at all. The best part of his game is his work rate or running into space but without the end product to that it isn't useful for you. Sometimes it works out but not at a high enough rate that it is worth having him in the side. I don't advocate the memeing culture that surrounds him and have always tried to defend that as it can play a part in impacting someones mental health but he definitely isn't good enough to be a starter for you and it's getting to the stage where he isn't looking like he's good enough to be a backup either for the wages he would most likely want. I think he'd be fine as a backup for cup games and lower league opposition but he'd want too much money to have that role.

Before people say 'He should go to Everton or a side like yours' - he doesn't suit us either. We have enough players who are runners, we need someone who is capable of creating/a proper CDM as our midfield (similar to you but ours need to be starters).

I daren't ask what your job is, but I suggest a career change sharpish

Name me one current professional player that deserves what he is being paid?

He’s really regressed as a footballer over the last 18 months, and even in his prime he was barely squad player level for a team looking to compete at the top. I know he’s homegrown & we love our academy lads & that, but he’s just not good enough & should be moved on.

Who would he even get games for? Norwich are the worst team in the league yet Cantwell, Hernandez & Buendia are all better than him.

Would Sheffield be a good move for him? Wilder seems to be a master of getting the maximum out of poor players, and Jesse does work very hard. I could see him doing well there. They could get much better for the wages he would demand though.

Mata,Lingard and Perriera must go but in this current Covid-19 climate I'm not expecting much luck in that regard.
