Really no point in doing this. A new contract isn't going to magic up interest.

This club is really stupid when it comes to giving contracts out to players that simply have little to no value to the 1st team. It´s like the club hand out extensions based upon how well liked the player is rather than their actual contributions on the field. The club should have used this situation to show the rest of the team that if you don´t perform well enough then you are gone at the contract expiration date at least. This would be a strong message to send to the squad and to be proactive against anyone thinking they can get a free ride here. But instead the club have sent the message if you are liked enough you can stay many years while earning millions in wages. The team above Ole really is incompetent at best. The club made these decisions before Ole came here and considering how little Ole use him there is no doubt that it´s someone above the manager position making these stupid decisions and they should be fired.

Really thought we'd stopped with these stupid extensions but I guess I was wrong. Beyond idiotic, we're saddled with a useless player and his wage for another year and a half. We'll never get rid of the deadwood at this rate.

Proper joke run of a club. The guy can't even get into the squad let's give him a 12month extension because we feel sorry for him

Whoever's running our contract negotiations can seriously feck off

If this means we're selling him this month then it makes sense.

Only way it does though.
I agree with you. If we have some offers maybe, then ok. But if not then it is stupid as it gets.
But if we have some offers, wouldn't his wage be a problem?

If we extended his contract, it means that Ole can use him as part of the squad. Especially with the games coming thick and fast. I think he can be a useful option off the bench. Probably either James/him to come off the bench as an energetic impact sub. Hopefully he is fully fit.

We really should not make a big deal out of this. God knows we are trying to offload him and triggering this extension at least gets us some leeway in negotiations.

The worst part that can happen is, in order to further 'protect' his value now we are obliged to play him here and there. Because no club would buy him if he barely plays in 1 year. Guy is shit, 1 year of no proper football would make him even shittier.

Other than that we can't really do anything since there are no buyers. Like having a PS 1 in PS 5 era. Who gives a feck.

Didn't we try to sell offload him in the summer but no one wanted him? If that's the case why the hell would we expect to sell him now, one year later with almost 0 minutes and financial uncertaincy probably still dominant?

Will just have to lay his wages for him to sit in the stand for another year, yay

This guy isn't a footballer. He's playing a different sport I'm pretty sure about that.

He should retire and focus on clothing brands.

What's the point in playing him? So obviously not good enough and should be leaving the club

Stop wasting minutes on him. He should just leave for everyone's good.

It wasn’t as awful as some of you make out.

Looked “OK“, tried to contribute but rusty as feck. Average performance, but not awful.

League One player. I've had enough seeing him getting minutes with us.

He doesn't attempt anything creative anymore.

He just passes it sideways and backwards, he's just rubbish.

It's a bit of a joke it's 2021 and Lingard is still starting games for Utd, it's been obvious for years he's crap and not good enough.

When was the last time he looked like he was anywhere near good enough to justify being on the field, for either team? If we draw Chorley he might have his chance.

Such a chancer. Managed to get a decent 2 month period/scored in a few big games and has rinsed out 5+ years in the first team. He's shite

Not sure what kind of performance people were expecting (another Bruno, a new De Bruyne??)

Decent squad player performance.

I said it when we extended his contract but he's barely played in 3 months and we haven't missed him at all, poor from our management. I've never seen a player forge a career on the back of 2 decent months.

No, it was not. We expect much more from our squad players, contributing nothing over 90 minutes is not a decent squad performance, a club of our stature shouldn't be accepting that level of mediocrity.

There are always some players who clearly are not good enough, but somehow manage to remain in the squad well past the point where they should be moved on.

A typical Lingard performance, buzzing around with zero creativity or goal threat, which also affects the rest of the attack as they have to drop deeper to get on the ball as they end up isolated with him playing as a 10.
