Personally I can’t see him gettting any minutes this season bar a major injury crisis

Developmental minutes in the cup if the fixtures are suitable, I expect.

Obviously he's physically a child (albeit he's worked extremely hard over the summer to develop his body, which should be noted)

He's already a very good (if selfish) footballer though

He's literally not 5'5 though? Swear to God this Kobbie and Angel all over again...

Go to the Endrick thread or the striker transfer thread. You'll see people brushing off Endrick 'Cause he's only 5'8, despite being stocky AF since he was 16.

Like I said in the JJ thread; he'll be playing adult football this season either way.

JJ isn't stocky af though so why even bring Endrick up?

The exact point people are making is that you need to be a stocky af 15/16 year old to play adult football safely.

A few people being wrong about Endrick doesn't mean they're right about JJ. Can't you just.. see that he has a small frame?

Why even bring Endrick up? Because they'd say they're right? That being stocky has nothing to do with it? Only thing that matters is he's a subhuman 5'8. So logically not being stocky has nothing to do with it either.

You say I'm wrong about Gabriel. I say I'm not. I say he can stand up to the rigours of pre-season friendlies and 10-15 minutes of Prem football once a month or two, or 10-15 in dead rubbers in the CL a couple times a season depending on how all that goes.

My broader point is people here don't even want the club to see if he's capable. They just want to leave him in the u21s (where he'll be playing adults? People understand that over 18 and under 21 is an adult, yes?). They base this on what? "conventional football wisdom"? 'Cause that's so reliable. He played literally 10 minutes of barely first team football and people have made up their minds. Done, dusted, close the book. Saw people saying he shouldn't go on the pre-season tour. He went on the tour. Shouldn't start against Rosenborg. Didn't. "Oh, see, Carrick has sense. He's gonna watch from the bench for the tour. You're fools for wanting him to play against Atleti. He won't, Carrick has sense...." He does.... "He shouldn't play against PSG though! Proof is in the pudding! Didn't score a hat trick in his professional debut, not ready. Carrick has sense."

Clearly Carrick thinks he's worth looking at.

He's pretty much the same build Yamal was when he made his debut (I'd post pictures but I can't) but people just wont have it. People talk in here about 23/24 Yamal like the old geezer talks about Homer when he caught General Sherman.

The other thing is just generally have you lot watched football lately? Do you think this is the 90s? That his first carry is gonna get him Derrick Henry-ed into the advertising boards? You look at someone funny now and you give away a free kick. Worst case scenario is we play him, he gets bullied and we know for sure. I know someone is about to type "He could get injured!", hate to break it to you but that's just as likely in the u21s mate.

He can either:

Rot in the u18s he's already far too good for which is terrible for his development.

Go out on loan which is adult football and apparently die immediately.

Play in the u21s which is adult football and apparently die immediately.

Play for the first team which is adult football and apparently die immediately.

...At this point I guess you might as well just buy the wheelchair now.

The fact "b-b-b-b-b-b-but his physicality!!" is just the same old tired excuse people slap on every promising kid we have is getting stale. People are still doing it with Harry Amass. People say he needs to go out on loan and bulk up and it's like "he already did that?" but why check when you can just play the "physicality" card like this a bad game of Uno? Mainoo literally had to spell out in a video that he was 6ft tall before people shut up about it because all they can do is check outdated Wikipedia stuff and demand they work on their physicality. People were trying to argue that Angel Gomes was still 5'2 when he was 18. I bet they'd say Kai Roney needs to go bulk up too.

A lot of people said the same thing about Joao Neves all over the place when we were sniffing about in January before he moved to PSG; "he's 5'1 and 200g he'd get destroyed in the Prem! Avoid!...." Goes and walks straight into the PSG side having already done a year of adult football in Portugal...

Can't be a CDM in the Prem at 5'8!

Kante tho?

That's different!

Makelele tho?

That's different!

Yeah, difference is they were given a chance.

And a reminder that literally all of this is about people saying he should get minutes in pre-season friendlies and we're excited to see it. That's it.

Then there's also the fact that even if he does go out and get bullied by adult football that that's a good thing? 'Cause it might shut his dad up and maybe he signs a pre-contract? Instead of him hinting that he might go to Barca?

JJ? Is that you?

Enough screen time now young man. Go and do some gym work if you want to play any men's football this season

This post is full of misaligned arrogance

I would like him to start over Bruno this season, then Bruno can come on at the end of matches when Gabriel is tired.

If he's a big enough talent and the club are scared of losing him, it makes sense to try and get him a few minutes here or there to tempt him to stay.

He may not be ready to contribute in adults football yet but probably worth it if it keeps him at the club.

15 year old our starting number 10? I think even the saying "if you're good enough you're old enough" still requires you to be a certain age. At least having picked your GCSEs.

Agree with this. The lad clearly has a lot of growing and development to do but is also a potential difference maker. If giving him the odd short sub cameo here & there helps toward convincing him and his family / advisors to stay at United, then it is a very sensible step to make and also benefits him. Must be VERY carefully managed though, obviously.

Personally I can’t see him gettting any minutes this season bar a major injury crisis
A few minutes at the end of the first League Cup fixture, then nothing until some minutes in a PL fixture after we qualify for the CL but cannot win the title.

I've been told his dad want's him to sign a deal with Barcelona and that's why he's being fast tracked into the first team squad.

I'd be amazed if we managed to keep him.

His dad sounds like he's living the career he wished he had through his son. Can imagine it's going to be a nightmare trying to satisfy him and at what cost, having to make promises to keep boy wonder and his father happy at the expense of a senior player making way.
Literally don't care about this kid, absolutely zero guarantee he makes it, he has some quick feet but I don't see a footballer, I see a manufactured and very marketed kid who's father only cares about getting rich off him.

29 goals in 32 last season, or 26 in 26 in the league kinda suggests the opposite

And before you come saying Chido has more etc etc, there’s an argument there’s talent across a lot of our youngsters at the moment. We need to be careful who we let go - an example being the potentially daft decision around Amass. But JJ is clearly talented

We need to be careful who we let go

It won't come down to letting him go, his father will move him out to whichever club offers the most money. At the moment we are taking the approach of trying to offer him first team minutes and basically selling the opportunities to him but his father will decide his career. I imagine he already has his future mapped out so regardless of what Utd do, or don't do, they are powerless to decide his future.

Can we be arsed dealing with this more than anything. It’s like a baby Neymar

Talk about creating a narrative and running with it. You got no idea about any of this stuff

That’s an old rumour that I heard last season but after Carrick had spoken with him they decided to stay at United

You realise you are talking about a literal 15-year old, right?

Kid obviously needs to grow a bit more but he is not 4-5 years away from the first team either. If he can stay fit and keep locked in i expect him to knock on the door to the first team next season. Would not be surprised to see him in the match day squad a few times this season either. Exciting to follow his progress!

I think he's going to go when it comes to the contract. He's still in school which is in Manchester, his parents will want him to complete the school year and then the feelings are he will sign for Barcelona.

That's what I've been told this morning, Carrick doesn't really want to bring him into the squad yet but his hands being tied by the fact they are absolutely desperate to keep the kid. It's apparently his dad making all the decisions a little bit like the Bellingham situation.

These are the kinds of takes from low posting accounts that make me question what the hell i have to do to become a full member.
You don't see a footballer?
There's no point even debating you.

Great to see him get some limited minutes, feels like there is a bit more of a structure since INEOS came in with regards to the path for promising kids into the first team.

Bolded made me laugh. You do have some good points. I'm fine to disagree. There has to be a line somewhere regarding body strength of a kid and playing top level adult football, even now and again, since it's known that it can adversely affect a player's career. United probably know better than any of us where the line is though so if they decide to play him I'll give them benefit of doubt til proven otherwise.

Drops mic

Well done sir

Why even bring Endrick up? Because they'd say they're right? That being stocky has nothing to do with it? Only thing that matters is he's a subhuman 5'8. So logically not being stocky has nothing to do with it either.
Please don't use the term subhuman it's incredibly dehumanizing and historically offensive term.

He is 15, nearly 16. Let him be that age for just another season. It's not just the physical etc, it's also the social and emotional side of things. Let him develop for another season without the extra pressures being dropped on him when he is so young. You are comparing him with Kante and Makelele with respect to height but forgetting they were also fully grown men with fully developed physiques and had reached adulthood. Why the mad rush?

Don't see why everyone is so fussed about this. He'll primarily play with the U-21s and get odd bench opportunities/comfortable minutes depending on our cup/european draws. Depending on that his minutes can increase.

Just that along with training with the first team will do so much for his development.

Just do it the old school way.
Get his dad to sign a napkin contract, give him like 3 milly in advance and another 5m when JJ is old enough to sign a professional contract.
He’s a 100m+ player potentially, we’re all traumatized by Pogba as it is.
So a 8m investment in total with a risk of going to zero if he turns out nothing special in 2-3 years is no big deal for a club like United, with a potential reward of a 100m+ player is a cracking risk to reward ratio and a trade I’ll try to take any day of the week in the markets.

Simple, special circumstances for special talent.

It is not healthy to obsess this much over wanting a Child to play professional football against grown men.

I was looking forward to seeing him get his chance, but it was very apparent in his atletico Cameo that physically he is very much a Child still. That is not a criticism at all, these things are individual and needs to be given the time it takes.

JJ is homeschooled
