JJ Gabriel

Why, wasn't the Arsenal kid 15? Anyhow, he absolutely should be protected and left out of the spotlight until he's at least 17.
I think it’s to do with a certain age at registration period or something.
Think at best he could play league cup. If we were in it of course

He is supremely talented but getting first team minutes already feels a tad too soon imo.
But Darren knows what he can do better than anyone.

you do worry if that’s the correct way to handle him. Feels everything is being rushed out of fear of losing him. Which I can see happening anyway if he does make his debut and Barca decide to come in for him.

Might be looking at acclimating him to the atmosphere. He's eligible for minutes next season, so Fletcher could start him with bench appearances, to summer tour, to minutes here and there to start next season, and then a proper debut in the middle of next season.

Hopefully he grows (fills out) as he’s tiny at the min. He’s barely 15 so I just worry about the kid having the right support systems around him and not rushing him. We’ve seen our three most gifted young lads go tits up in recent years from not having the right people guiding them (or not willing to take the guidance) in Pogba, Ravel, Greenwood

This confirms my suspicion that he's too young to play in PL2. Shame he's not in Germany with the 18s, would've loved to see him in one of those indoor tournaments.

He's eligible for FA Cup right? Think he'll be on the bench.

Maybe it was based on an embargoed presser?
Presser is this afternoon and released later this evening, although may have just been a spelling mistake etc so journos go back and fix them.

Was a fantastic goal in training for u21s and a comment about stupid rules stopping his son from progressing due to young age

They'll be looking at Lacey getting minutes and somewhat rightly thinking his son is just as ready. Not sure he's teaching his son good values on being humble and patient though, he still has a lot of growing to do and we know that nearly always impacts players.

Obviously we have no real way of knowing but from what we see on the pitch JJ Gabriel is nothing but hard working, greedy at times but he's just turned 15 and backs himself, and his teammates don't seem to dislike him either which is a good sign for a super talent.

I don't think he's likely to be patient if we drag out integration though, he has options and will play when he thinks he's ready

Yeah he's a grafter, it's the potential for entitlement I'm concerned about but it's more his dad than him at this moment. That said Ronaldo was always entitled, some players are just determined to manifest their aims and do put the work in

I'd love to see him play in the FA Cup and I think he'd do okay but is it a good idea? Probably not.

No JJ on the bench

FA Cup tie 'too soon' for 15-year-old Gabriel
Fletcher has ruled out the prospect of 15-year-old Gabriel being called into the United first-team squad for the Brighton game.

While Premier League rules prevent Gabriel being involved in their competition because he was 14 when the season began, the same regulation is not in place for FA Cup ties.

Gabriel trained with United's senior players under Amorim and did the same on Monday, when those who started the draw at Leeds were on a warm-down session.

However, Fletcher, who moved Gabriel into the false nine role with huge success at the start of this season with United's under-18s, says it is too soon for the youngster.

"JJ is a fantastic talent and I've enjoyed working with him immensely," said Fletcher.

"There's a lot of noise around him and deservedly so because he's a really talented kid who works hard and loves his football.

"He makes fantastic decisions and has got an enthusiasm for the game that's just amazing. I'm super excited by his talent and he has a bright future ahead of him.

"But the most important thing is that he keeps developing as he's still got lots to learn.

"His time will come in due course, but for now it's a little bit early I think and a lot of people would agree with me.

"But I couldn't speak highly enough of JJ. He's got an amazing family and amazing support around him and he's somebody we're delighted to have at the club.

"The world is his oyster, and he just needs to go on his journey."

Wouldn’t play him in the cup and glad Fletcher isn’t. We’ve got three just back from injury, maybe one or two more for this game… the bench isn’t Z, Malacia and kids any more, and we need as many good options as possible in case the game goes one way or another. The only way he’d come on is if we’re 4-0 up with ten to go.

It is too early especially if hes used as a striker and in the other roles we have players ahead who deserve a chance to show they can step up to the first team from the 21s

Top skills. But how's his speed? I've seen some of his videos, and he doesn't seem particularly fast. This could be a limitation in professional football.

He's 15 and he's quick enough

Still young and not physically developed. Plus you don’t need speed if your dribbling and other skill set is top class.

You can be a very good player also without speed. But to be a word class player, you need speed. Max Dowman for exemple has top skills and also great acceleration: word class potential. Jj Gabriel, i've only seen him on video, so my is more of a question than a statement, but he seems to me he isn't fast. Is this correct?

He's quick enough for now. A lot could happen in the next few years with a lot of growth to come physically.

One thing he has that's difficult to teach and more important than pace is speed and intensity in his actions. Pretty much most things he does do are at 100mph; that combined with the technical skill level he possesses is rare...especially at his age.

Fletcher said today he's not in the squad against Brighton. Agree it's too soon. He's only 15.

Look at Max Dowman, out for a few months with ankle ligamant injury. Yes could have happened in a u18 game anyway (happen against us btw in u21 game).

Let them develop out of the limelight. When they are ready, they are ready.

You do not need speed to be a world class player. So many examples to the contrary

He isn’t ready for senior football but Max Dowman getting injured in an u21s friendly has no relevance to any of that.

Agree.
There's a reason Barca ruin most of their academy prospects before they reach mid 20's.

Of course it does, he has a target on his back. Wonder kid etc. If your the opposition your gonna go in harder on him. I would if I was playing against him.
