JJ Gabriel

Phil Neville left United in 2005 :D

The big turning point was the Blackburn game which we lost at home, where Pogba remained on the bench when we had a crisis in midfield.
Both of you have confused Phil Jones with Phil Neville here btw.
My bad, I just copy/pasted the post I answered into my brain. Couldn’t really understand why anyone would complain about being behind the most talented son of Neville Neville for a midfield spot!

It was of course Rafael who played with Park against Blackburn that day, which we lost.

Fletcher talking about JJ

However, in any media discussion about United's current Under-18 squad, there are some players who receive more scrutiny and interest than others.
JJ Gabriel is one of those.
The 15-year-old missed out on the Golden Boot prize he seemed set to win for so long until City's Teddie Lamb went on a phenomenal run at the end of the season, scoring 16 goals in his final 12 games.
However, Gabriel's overall performances confirmed him as the Premier League Under-18 league's player of the season.
The Londoner is likely to play some part in United's pre-season campaign this summer and he evidently has a very bright future.
"JJ's an amazing talent," said Fletcher.
"He is a fantastic kid. He brings an enthusiasm to the pitch every day to learn, to want to play, to be on the ball. He's desperate to do better, to improve and to learn. He takes constructive criticism well and I've got a great relationship with him.
"I do think we need to remember he is a kid and also he's been part of a really good team, and the players have helped him as well.
"But JJ has scored the goals and goals always get the limelight. He has a major future and is somebody I've enjoyed working with immensely.
"His next steps are something people above me will decide. We want him to go up there and thrive, so we need to get him in the position to do that."

He has appeared a bit less sharp and slightly off his high standards in recent matches, which is understandable.

It's been a lengthy season, during which he has started every game and performed well for the majority of it.

Overall he's had a very good season. the under 18's player of the yyear

Hopefully, he will continue to develop and improve next season.

An exciting talent :+1:

Saw most of the 2nd half and it's clear he's a talent despite seeing very little on the ball. His hip movements and feints/shift of the body are at a high level. The issue is whether he can keep being effective and grow his athleticism/physique in line with his technical level. It's one thing to have quick feet and glide past other young teenagers (even if he is playing above his age group), it's another when it's against young adults/grown men.

Whiteside hoping he breaks his record for youngest goalscorer. Plenty of time too doesn't even need to do it next season (limited enough chances next season anyway and rightly be more likely the 2nd half of the season if we do see him)
