I don't think centre-back is one of your main worries to be honest.

Yes, you're conceding too many, but I think that's in large part to do with the lack of fitness and intensity in your team as a whole. Add a dynamic midfielder and a more effective centre-forward who makes better runs and stretches teams and you should automatically concede less goals. A better goalkeeper too, obviously.

Let's take my team, Newcastle, as an example. On paper, our centre-backs aren't significantly better than yours, if at all, but the rest of the team is more effective in pressuring and unsettling the opposition. Our midfield three is a nightmare to play against, whereas you guys seriously lack athleticism there, especially if you're playing Eriksen or Mainoo in a two.

I'd argue that a fit and technical midfielder comes a very close second behind striker in your list of needs, with goalkeeper also in need of an upgrade.
I think that's fair.

In addition to that pressing element, very little we put up the pitch sticks. So the number of times a games turns into long spells of attack vs defence is absurd. Attack always wins eventually, because it only takes one mistake for defence.

We need players who can take the ball and keep it, dribble up the pitch and relieve pressure. It's a quality you can look for in a few different positions, but not so much at centre half.

There is not a single person who think CB is the only area we need to improve.

Buying Tah for example would not impact any other business, although I don’t think he’s a realistic target. We should be looking at a player we can bring in now to bed in for a year. Who that player is, I don’t know. We don’t have to pay £45m+ for every CB.
The only other quality CB whose contract expires: Olivier Boscagli.

Any good?
Good enough I'd say. He's good with the ball, so could replace Martinez in that regard. Also not that tall (1.82 or something). That's a minus but if he's free, why not? Surely better than Shaw as LCB. And we still have Heaven to compete.

Hmmm ok

I'd agree with this. We've got Martinez, Shaw, Heaven, Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro, Mazraoui and possibly Fredricson covering 3 positions even without Lindelof or Evans. A personnel change in the back 3 isn't going to drastically change anything at this point. The attack, wing backs and midfield need looking at, not CB, unless there's some young bargain out there.

I'd still prefer us to get a Sporting CB who knows the system, although it probably isn't possible if we sign a CF, Cunha, CM and GK...
Let’s keep making the same mistake over and over and over again

Also this guy isn’t like halfway to Munich?

While I agree with you on Maz, this narrative around Harry isn't true name me three poor performances this season that Maguire has been a disaster in especially comparing to when he's usually playing as a double. Maguire has been reliable this season and as demonstrated with his career, he's always been better suited to playing with two players either side of himself in defence.

The problems with defence this season have come from inadequate coaching on Amorim's behalf. I have come close to multiple periods this season making a thread on the spaces outside the center halves in-between the wingbacks that is exposed on a game by game basis with the manager having no solutions. I'm surprised no one has picked up on it, it is 80% the cause of most defensive issues in this team.

You cannot throw more players at a tactical issue. From a positional basis the best performances this season has on average come from United's defenders even with the injuries. Onana has certainly been an absolute disgrace which doesn't help. I wouldn't mind Tah but his acquisition doesn't come at the expense of saying that the concurrent selection of players isn't good a enough. A better manager makes this team more defen

Honestly speaking if you think Maguire has been reliable this season your standards are on the floor. He has been better than the previous 2 seasons but he has still made costly defensive errors and due to his lack of pace we are not able to push the defensive line up the pitch as much.

Our defensive issues are not merely tactical stop the nonsense.

Yeah definitely not possible with all that, may have to be a focus if De Ligt/Maguire leaves next summer

Goes to Bayern. Surprise surprise. We never even had 0.05% chance

Dodged a bullet, told you. Even Bayern fans are not convinced.

Make a FF thread or pop it in existing. This is the transfer forum.
