Avoided scrutiny as its clearly his last season before retirement and is about 7th or 8th choice... but what exactly is his injury?
He's been out ages now and would surely be on what have been some very young benches if fit.

Foot mob has the very vague "Physical discomfort" as the reason.
Back injury that has needed time to properly heal, according to Mitten.

Hopefully he's not already played his last game, and there might only be another 2months of his career to run out.

I believe Mitten said something about him being close to full fitness. Would love for him to get a proper send-off!

Lower back injury apparently.

Is it confirmed he's retiring this summer?

You'd imagine we'll have quite a few utterly dead rubber league games, and hopefully go deep into the Europa, so should be plenty of opportunities, where we'll really be pleased to rotate.

It isn't, but I'm sure I read something about how he considered it last season.
Yeah looking about it now on Google and it seems like he wanted to retire in 2023 but kept playing as United offered him a contract. Think he'd do a solid job again at LCB with Heaven/Martinez/Yoro/Shaw out injured but seems like he won't be available after International break either.

Retired at International level last summer so it's probably gradual retirement and he retires from club football this year as well.

Man Utd 2:0 Aston Villa
And the second one I’ll miss - him and Eriksen. Never my favourite player, but he’s United through and through and a better player than I used to give him credit for.

His performance away at Villa earlier this season was very good. Unfortunately for him the manager & formation then changed pretty much straight away and he started to pick up injuries so his second spell has fizzled out.

But he did a good job when called upon and nice he got on the pitch today.

Happy to see him get on the field today for one final appearance. Wish we'd been further ahead so he might have been comfortable taking the penalty.

Wonder if he'll retire or if he's looking to continue playing for another season or two.
I think he'll go into coaching now, he seems the type. Maybe here for the youths?

Too bad he didn’t score that header, would have been a magnificent end. But a clean sheet is not too bad either.

When the read out his honours list…

Easy to forget he was part of better times.

Honest professional that loves the club. Will be missed. Need more like him

Last remaining player from the Fergie era has gone unless we sign Welbeck in the summer.

Great send off for him. Was only brought back to be a bit part player but actually played well and played a lot more than first counted on. This is the send off he deserved, with United, at Old Trafford.

I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours and hope to see him back at the club in the future.

All the very best Johnny. I wish we had never sold him in the first place but he had a great career at Leicester as a result.

Apparently Wrexham want him badly.

The 23/24 season was absolutely class from him.

To come in with low expectations for gametime for a supportive role and be thrust into the job due to need and perform at the level he did at his age shows his class and character.

This season was obviously more difficult with injuries but he's a hell of a player and leaves with the utmost respect and admiration.

Was he asking for the penalty at the end or saying he didn't want it? Can't imagine there would be many other instructions he'd be shouting to the bench otherwise in that situation.

I believe he was telling Eriksen to take it. He kept saying “Chris”.

The one he skied in the Charity Shield might have put him off taking it himself.

Been some decent performances from him since he came back, probably played more than he ever expected to. Nearly scored today and all.

Nice to see him leave OT with a win.

I really wished he scored that chance today.

His body is gone but he's done solid in his return and good to see him off with a win. Best of luck to him.

I didnt rate him during his first spell here. How wrong I was. Glad he got a good send off. Top servant for this club.

Brilliant servant, top defender. Should have never been sold one of the many victims of mad Louis.

Wish him all the best. Might be the last Irish player to play for United for a good while.

Such a solid professional, happy to see he got a final run out in Old Trafford a pity he didn't score a goal with that header. Best wishes Jonny.

I had a feeling he'd get a run out today which is only fitting.

Didn't get any game time the last few months, the back 3 doesn't suit him unless he's playing in the centre, which was pretty much occupied by Maguire.

Wish him the best of luck for whatever the next step in his career is.

Should never have been sold. Solid club servant.
Van Gaal sold Evans, Rafael, Welbeck, Chicharito - all solid squad players (potential starters) and PL winners. They were never deadwood so selling all of them was a mistake.

On Evans - really happy we brought him back in 2023. Solid 23/24 season and then he'd have repeated it this season probably if it wasn't for injuries. Also a goal at Spurs and almost another one yesterday.

What a crazy stat

Mad stat. Unless we get Welbeck as a backup ST

What a crazy stat

It's really not crazy, it's 2025, 12 years since he retired, how many players spend that length of time at a PL club in this day and age?

Tom Heaton looks to be getting another season.

Wonder where he ends up.

Think he’s still able to contribute. Usually did well when called upon.

I think the craziness is not that he’s the last one but the fact that in all those seasons over the last 50+ seasons, there hasn’t been one that didn’t feature a player who has played for Fergie.
