Jonny Evans - Youth Dev Role

The Evans criticism is just odd. The guy went on multiple loans, played for a range of clubs of different sizes in different countries and is probably more the profile of player (good but not elite) that is going be the focus of his job. He's also known to be a complete professional, which is a big part of what I assume Ineos want him to be impressing upon these kids.

Also, United don't go out pitching clubs for their players, the player's agent will be speaking with loads of clubs coupled with other clubs will be approaching United for specific players. Evans' job is going to be trying to work out which loans are going to benefit the player most and steering them that way using his own experiences.
@tomaldinho1 this thread please

He's always come across as a model professional and a good character to have around. It's nice to see him continue his career at the club

If he’s not registering as a player, will this be the first season without a PL winner in the Utd squad since at least 1993?

There might be someone I’m missing.
I think Tom Heaton is the closest now. He was around during 2005-2010 but never actually played a game.

Another reason we fall behind everyone else. No other team employs or has employed so many ex players. I'm sure there's better people for the role.
Bayern Munich have done very well like this.

Time will tell if Jonny Evans will be successful in this role, but he has played and worked at Manchester United at our best and at our worst. He knows the difference, he probably has opinions and now to change things - that might come in useful in the youth development role, ie training them to manage the expectations, setting the standards.

The funny thing is I can definitely see him go towards a more admin path and doing well.
Yeah I’m swaying between both paths. Can see him in a similar role to Maldini or Buffon. Respected amongst peers and the boardroom.

Means zilch, most of our ex SAF trained turns out to be not so good at managerial or coaching. Our academy despite it's years of excellence doesn't produce good manager or coach

I'd even argue that they're too one dimensional, most of them only knew 1 manager for the majority of their playing career (SAF), and tries too hard to emulate the great man

Not top notch no, but there are loads who have or are making careers out of it

Bruce
Hughes
Carrick
Keane
Ole
Strachan
Robins

Etc

Clearly not good, Evans is a bright and ambitious lad. Maybe there is illness in his family and if so then that's rightly his priority.

Maybe he just didn't like it. Can't imagine Loan Manager is the most exciting role for a millionaire who just retired from top level football a few months ago
