Don't understand not pivoting here earlier when it became crystal clear Hall wasn't leaving Newcastle
It's because literally nobody in charge of any area of the club has the slightest idea what they're doing.

Or maybe he is no better than Amass so we may as well not waste money on signing a player who doesn't improve us in the slightest. I don't know enough about him to make that call but i would imagine a lot of the people demanding we trigger that clause don't know anything about him either and are just demanding a signing for the sake of it.

Could well be but then Amass has experience at Championship and PL level. I think we were looking to sell Harry but it looks like that is not happening now so I imagine the notion is we may as well see if he can make the step up rather than banish him to the U21s just to replace him with another prospect. If we were going to buy a starter then that would be different but I don't think anyone believes Salinas benches Shaw right now so if Amass is going nowhere give him the minutes and hope he either makes the leap or at least increases his value for when we sell him next summer.

That can be the only reason we didn't activate clause

If there was a trophy for monitoring, we'd win it hands down every season. We are unbeatable at it

Can someone who is a bit more across these things than me explain why a certain portion of our fan base are convinced that a player I'm assuming the vast majority of people have never seen play is definitely the answer?

Like I assume this is being pushed by some influential tactics account or online influencer or someone?

Or are people really just so desperate for a LB that we're at the stage anyone will do?

Maybe the real trophy should be for reading every tweet that says this and believing it.

Journalist way of still putting out stories when they have no idea what we’re up to. Shouldn’t believe every tweet read.

Sensible take. I also said in the Page thread that even if the club is genuinely interested in these guys they might feel like leaving them where they are for a season of first team football is genuinely better for their development at this point than sitting on our bench. Plus if we play them at all I don't think you can play for 3 clubs in one season so they might get some games off the bench but end up being stuck in limbo if we don't use them much when they are already both doing ok where they are.

I would imagine with Page if we do get him the plan is to leave him where he is until January at least playing senior football. Your point about Amass is probably why we haven't made a seemingly sideways move for Salinas. There's no point in stockpiling players that aren't going to move the needle right now unless another big club moves for them and you want the lowest price. Otherwise it stands to reason to wait and see how they get on for the next few months and be ready to move if another club goes in

I don’t think anyone is convinced. I’m certainly not convinced that this guy will do a better job than Dorgu or Amass there. The desperation comes from the fact that Carrick has purely utilised Dorgu in attack and meanwhile the club have been actively trying to sell Amass.

The way Shaw is seemingly being relied on to be our sole left-back for a 50+ game season is what is causing the panic.

I think he's on the CIES football list which is prestigious. His data is good. Low release clause. Barca and Atletico are sniffing around. Part of successful Spanish underage teams. Has decent senior exposure despite his young age. He's a signing for the future 100% and I think that's why we haven't gone in for him despite his low release clause. I'd imagine Dorgu Maz and whoever else would end up playing before him as things stand so it's not a priority

I remember a time where not signing Bella Kotchap or Evan Ferguson was proof we were poorly managed

This lads release clause is under £18m yes? If so, then surely the club would activate it if they thought he was going to improve on what we have. Seems such an obvious step. It’s not a huge amount so maybe he’s not viewed as ready yet or doesn’t want to come.

Just pay this guys release clause before Atletico

Barca wanting him says to me he has potential

It is so obvious you don't watch him, haven't watched him and want to have a whinge anyway.

The vast majority of people, me included, wouldnt be able to identify Jorge Salinas out of a line up.
And he must be worth it because Barcelona were interested, and also chose not to pay the small release clause for him.

Or maybe he doesn't want to move to the North of England at 19.

Maybe he doesn’t want to move to United?
Or maybe he's not that good? He's got a very low clause and Barcelona passed. The atletico deal didn't happen.

This deal may not be the layup some think

Considering 95% of this forum haven't seen him kick a ball because, well, no one watches the segundo, I'd say that's probably true

Yeah it's just a bit frustrating to read posts blindly punt because he's a body and nothing else.

I’ve not followed this one at all, but he’s a 19 year old LB from Segunda? I presumed he’s been tearing it up in La Liga based on the hype. There’s no way he’s going to be ready to be the main man at LB for us. Not sure why everyone is getting so worked up.

Just reading and it sounds like he’s not even that great going forwards either.

Here are the compilations against Getafe and Elche for those who want to judge whether or not we should go for him (bear in mind there could still be some off the ball moments not captured, there were a couple for the 1st one posted by the same twitter account)

Nice one for posting, nothing against you of course but really not much to go on from these highlights. Could be Varela or could be Azpilicueta.

Ah yes the classic fan party line of "you've never watched him, you guys just want a signing for the sake of it".

Or maybe we want a quality replacement for the past it single LB we have in the squad?

Thats what I'm getting at, absolutely pointless people pining for the next signing or trying to wish it into existence. Its not happening

Well on that point I would agree with you but lets be honest, we have no clue if this lad is quality and most of the people demanding we sign him have never seen him play. I would have cheerfully endorsed using the money for Baleba on Hall as I believe LB is a bigger priority than the club seems to but I am not going to be mad we don't want to spend 16M on some teenager on the chance he might turn out to be good. I don't see any reason to consider this lad any better than Amass who stood out playing in a tougher league last season. Clearly Barca and Atletico feel the same way as they have both passed on the chance to sign him too despite the media trying to claim it was a done deal for both of them at points in the past few weeks. He may turn out to be good but he may also be a middling La Liga player at the likes of Getafe for the majority of his career and this whole thing is just transfer window nonsense.

Desperation. They talk like he's a sure hit and would take Shaw's place without ever seeing him kick a ball

I mean 16m is essentially pennies at this point and Amass is leaving anyways (or we don't rate him and he won't play until his contract expires), so there's no point comparing to him.

But even people who have been "demanding we sign him" have a fair point given by all accounts he's highly rated (I think he's probably a hybrid CB) and for that price it's worth bringing in another highly regarded young player when we literally don't have a left back apart from washed up Shaw.

How do you know he’s a quality replacement if you have never seen him play or you don’t know anything about him?
I was responding to "fans just want a signing for the sake of it" when quite clearly that's NOT what people want and never want in any signing. No one wants a signing just to have a signing. Do you struggle with comprehension?
