I mean he might well continue to be shite. I'm not really defending his performances so far, I just won't rule him out so early.

There are things that I think he can bring to an Amorim system, with his physique and willingness to play one touch football. He's a better finisher than what he's shown for us so far, but needs to show more urgency and proactiveness. These are things which can be coached. He's not technically a bad player in my books.

That's what annoys me, how do we sign a player and don't know what his best position?

By the way, do ever sign bigger frame players in attack and it working out? Lukaku comes to mind but he was far better

I think he is a number 10 and has something to offer as a rotation option for one of the 2 slots behind the striker in Ruben's setup, he gets in good positions and gives the defenders problems but doesnt have the finishing ability to be an out and out striker

With Hojlund you always saw the athleticism he has and his will to put the shift in. Zirkzee shows nothing of that. A neat touch won't be enough to make it here

Check my post history, I don’t rate either of them. That said the reason Hojlund probably has a lot more trust is he showed what he was capable of during his purple patch last year.

Zirkzee just reminds me of Sancho and Depay. Bad fits for the team and the league so let’s just get rid now.

I couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, I was constantly in the wrong place to receive the ball, and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I’m never going to be a striker. I had 6 shots and only 1 was on target. Zirkzee looks similar.

He's so off the pace, he just rolls the ball around, there's no zip at all in anything he does. The ball gets into him and the move just peeters out.

He's underhitting his passes because his confidence is shot. Players do that when they have zero confidence, they take extra care to make sure their pass reaches their target but instead it has the opposite effect and they end up scuffing it.

A confident player zips those passes at speed.

He has until Jan but if he can’t step up I hope we are ruthless. In such a case, we need to pray Thiago Motta sees Zirkzee as a missing piece at Juve and wants a reunion with him in January. Jan might seem harsh but the longer he stays here the more he’ll drive down his value like Antony did. Give Juve what ever payment structure they want, luckily he’s on less than 100k a week so he is shiftable unlike most of our previous signings.

If you see the away 1-1 at Palace (I think), he was excellent in the first half and that’s what I thought would get most of the time. His touch was excellent as was his ability to move in control of the ball in tight spaces and link up / chance creation.

Sadly we haven’t seen him play like that since and what’s alarming is his:
- Complete lack of confidence and readiness for the pressure. As many have said, he looks scared of the occasion.
- He doesn’t seem to have an engine. Maybe it’s to do with confidence only but I want to see him leave everything on the pitch. There’s no for players who amble.

That's what I was thinking as well reading this thread. Hojlund is a level or two below Zirkzee in terms of technique and balance. He is much faster over a distance - how is that working out for us? In terms of positioning in the box, I don't see much of a difference between the two. Earlier this season Zirkzee was getting chances, but missing them. Is Hojlund getting chances?

There's a player in Zirkzee, personally I don't like slow players in attacking roles, it creates a problem that we already are struggling with in context of our squad. I do worry more about Hojlund out of those 2.
