Play him in the cups against lower league opposition and Sabah and the like to avoid burning out Mbuemo, Cunha, Sesko, etc. Who knows? He may surprise us all.

He’s more like 5th choice, it’s very odd we weren’t happy to let him go without a replacement when he is well down the pecking order but are happy to have only one left back who is injury prone.

We’re content to muddle through with our defence but not the attack even though defence has less quality and has a lot more injury prone players.

Mbeumo is better from the right. It would be like playing Bruno as CM.

Sure, he is better than Zirkzee , but he can contribute more when played in his usual position.
 
It's annoying that we were unable to move him on, but I actually think there's a player there and he may well surprise us yet...

I don't believe anyone here underrates his talent. It's his work rate that is the problem.
 
I have no idea what we were thinking. It’s quite obvious that he’s the 4th to 5th choice option in both striker and #10 position, so why not let him go to Everton and at least try to raise his value?

He’s barely going to play and come next summer after 3 seasons of doing nothing we’re going to hear how our inability to move on Zirkzee has scuppered our transfer plans.

It's hilarious. I was reading Everton's forum yesterday (as one does) and they were absolutely thrilled to be rid of Beto (at least when they thought they were signing Balogun). "Great guy but nowhere near good enough for a club like Everton" was the general consensus. That's a player who scored 10 goals in each of the previous two seasons, versus Zirkzee's total of 9 in a United shirt. Same with Woltemade at Newcastle. Nice guy, 11 goals in his debut season but ultimately considered a poor fit, not good enough and unceremoniously binned after a single season despite the huge fee paid for him.

I genuinely don't understand this club's obsession with clinging onto players who aren't good enough for dear life, nor people expecting them to suddenly come good despite the mountains of evidence that they won't. Is there a fanbase in the country with lower standards at this point? I'm struggling to think of one.

An argument could be made that Mbeumo has been better at striker than on the right since Carrick came in. More importantly, we have another option on the right that is at a very similar level, so playing Mbeumo up front and Amad on the right isn't really weakening the wing. Obviously they have very differing strengths and weaknesses, but both bring a lot to the team.

Hell, I suspect that Mbeumo is ahead of Cunha in the pecking order as well, but because Amad is currently injured we went with Cunha up front since we have Rashford and Dorgu fit to cover the left. Or perhaps we don't even really have a pecking order yet, and we're just intending on fitting the three most in-form players at the time in as the main starters.

I thought we were going to turn a corner when we culled Hojlund quickly and recouped some money atleast, but looking back, out of the two it would have made more sense to get rid of Zirkzee quicker and keep Hojlund as the 2nd striker behind Sesko.

Zirkzee came to the club out of shape which said it all about him. Lazy and not serious. Flashy touches and thinking he's like his idol Ronaldinho isn't going to cut it playing as number 9 at United.

A horrible signing and period at the club overall. Even without a replacement I'd have still let him go and see if he can earn himself a move to Everton. Being a reserve for us isn't going to do anything for his value or his career.
 
Disappointing that we seemingly backed out from the Everton loan. Perfect opportunity to get him regular minutes and hopefully build his value before next summer. Instead we'll be left with him on the back of three years as nothing more than the last resort back-up and wonder why we can't even sell for peanuts.

We didn't need a replacement because he basically offers nothing anyway and Carrick clearly doesn't rate him.
