He has covid and traning at home.

Nothing to do wuth the above, but I am really surprised we are not trying to get his wages off the books.

Agreed - we are paying him £160k a week (over £8m a season) as an occasional FA Cup/League Cup player - as good as he was and as good as he is around the place this is exactly the insane contract scenario that has gotten us where we are today - to put this into context he would be Liverpool’s 3rd or 4th highest paid player......

this is why we can’t do the Sancho deal

Extremely wasteful. Especially with his shooting, somehow not even able to make slightly proper contact with the ball on his favoured foot at one point. If he didnt tuck away the penalty he'd have had no good points to bring up today. Neat penalty

Felt he had a decent game. Was involved in pretty much all our attacks and could easily have had an assist

90% passing, disposesed once and had 4 key passes... He had one fluffed shot but other then that how exactly was he wasteful?

Another shot straight at the keeper coming onto his left foot in a good position, 8 crosses without much quality, wrong decisions in buildup play

Needs games to catch somekind of a form in face of inability to sign right sided winger in years.

Was poor for most of the game. 160K a week down the drain.

The difference between Mata and Greenwood was like night and day. He does all the simple things, his stats will always look good. However, he's no longer capable of injecting that electricity, pace and incisiveness that we need from the inside right area.

He put an absolute beaut on a plate for Lingard?

And that shot was a good save from their keeper... Think your being a bit overly harsh here mate.

It was far too central. If our keeper let that in there'd be threads complaining about it. He obviously had to save it but if he didnt it would have been considered a mistake.

His crossing was pants overall especially set pieces where he could barely beat the first man

Also Lingard had 4 key passes as well and the main thing I'd say about his performance is he showed a bit of desire and workrate unlike the past 2 years. I wouldnt say he made the most of his options either.

Mata was generally the one found by DVB or Lingard in advanced areas and didnt take advantage of it often. You can equally praise him for getting into the positions to receive those balls and lament him not making something out of them more often.

Think Mata suffers from being in the second team, and has nobody on the same wavelength as him.

Still think he has more to offer than the likes of Pereira, James and Lingard. Especially when surrounded by Bruno, Martial etc. and not the likes of James ans Ighalo.

Still has that eye for a pass between the lines in those central areas.

Good performance, especially first half. A couple of shots that were saved. Needs more pace around him, and willingness to make runs, than he had today.

My heart sank a bit when I saw him in the starting line up but fair play to him, he was good.

Has been directly involved in 13 goals in his last 15 starts. Which is indicative of both the standard of teams we start him against and the use he still has against those teams.

Maybe he can still reinvent himself. Looked top class tonight and showed his experience.

50 goals for us. Class player who can still be a utility player.

He still has uses in the Premier League. Links play really well and with good footballers like Bruno and Pogba around he’s still got plenty to offer. He’d be more effective against packed defences than James, Lingard etc.

Right decision to start him given that we were expected to control the game. Still proving that class is permanent

He looked very fresh today. Could be a good player to have as the season goes. Breaking down teams is his speciality.

Some neat stuff from him tonight. I enjoyed the game in the 2nd half because of him.
