We all love United
David Silva is two years older than him but doesn’t seem to slow down or decline by much. Should only be used for the cup games

I still have no issue with him signing a new contract as we simply needed the bodies. We're struggling with the lack of replacements for players we've let go as is, we don't need an even thinner squad. Obviously we'd ideally have sold and replaced him but clearly that wasn't going to happen given the limited amount of business we are apparently capable of doing in a given window, especially given we would receive feck all for him. At the rate we move in the transfer window the two years will be up by the time we've replaced everyone we've already let go.

The problem is simply that he has played too much. Part of that is obviously down to injuries but part is also down to the likes of Greenwood and Gomes receiving less minutes than they should have. Maybe they're not ready but Mata sure as shit isn't able to do what we need him to do either.

Mata should be here to be a good influence on the squad, start the straightforward EL games so others can get a breather and come on for a few minutes here and there in the league. If that's his role, all well and good. If Solskjaer expects more than that, we're fecked.

Might as well have burned the money. Juan is a gentleman but doesn't belong at this level anymore.

Yep, but that's the logic and approach of a board that are aiming to improve upon what was just achieved by finishing 2nd. Our board aren't interested in that, they are only interested in finishing top 4 and ensuring the season tickets get renewed. We finished second and the tickets were renewed, no need for them to spend much.
Inherently flawed logic. In any business stagnation is regression. It's high school business studies 101, let alone a multi-billion pound business.

There have been far worse but all in all his time here has been pretty disappointing. His contribution seems to diminish with each season and he was never a pivotal player to begin with. Nice chap, not obnoxious, tries his best but doesn't offer the team a lot sadly.

Way too slow and easily knocked off the ball. He should have beengot shut of 2 seasons ago, not have a nice big pay rise with a new contract. Jones, Smalling, Rojo all the same.

It's exactly these decisions that have us where we are.

Mediocre players and players on the decline kept way too long.

Who's signing these contracts off and deciding they are justifiable

He’s had a poor United career overall, no doubt, but he’s definitely gotten even slower than he was, it is mind boggling how slow that guy is.
To quote a post from myself from December 8 2015. "Could Mata be any slower?".

I can't believe he's still starting games for us in 2019.

Always irritating on games to hear them say how he "lacks a little pace".

No, he is super slow. Super slow.

Scored some nice goals over the years and we'll always have Juanfield, but he's not been a good signing, however lovely a chap he is.

Someone the other day did a cracking summary of our needs and actual signings since Fergie went, and it's a horrible read.
What we needed, versus what we got in him and Fellaini that first year.

It's when people say it's to "protect the value" that gets me.

In reality we kill ourselves to re-sign these players as we have no faith in ourselves to get better in, so we're in effect playing the percentage game. Stick with what you know.

I'd rather he doesnt share anything with kids at this rate.

Exeperiences is overrated. It matters if youre legends of the game, not a bench warming smiling blogger who part timing as a footballer
Agree. Look at Januzaj, Depay, Martial and now Lingard, no one will listen to a player whose position in the team is lower than them. And when you compare to Ibrahimovic, you will see the difference, even Pogba listen to him, because he is a legend, not a bench warmer still relying on his old reputation at Chelsea.

Also people always say he provides experience. Leading our team withdrawl of Champion League 3 times within 6 years after SAF retired?
