Being a self-satisfying narcissist is simply a data point that turned many of his associates against him. Cyber hacking is the charge that will probably be his undoing.
It is crystal clear that Assange is so relentlessly and stubbornly persecuted and punished exactly for exposing US-American war crimes, and not for the way he went about it, or whatever else shit he did.
To claim otherwise is rather infuriating.

Instead he opted for a mass dump of everything he had. Ultimately, its that which will sink him since it didn't have anything to do with the original incident and involved cyber hacking to obtain the information (ie. Assange instructing Manning on how to get information out of a system for which Manning was legally not allowed remove).
the problem is that assange and wikileaks did in fact redact elements and the us concluded that no operatives in the field were put in danger as a result. it's also problematic because ellsberg did a mass dump of data. panama papers did the same thing. most papers these days follow the wikileaks template and the guardian itself reproduced the wikileaks content as wikileaks published. as ellsberg says, if you indict assange you now have to indict many members of the invetigative press or else you're only doing it for political reasons which is in fact the case as everyone knows

i agree with this. i think it's so selfevidently true that it's hard to debate the opposite scenario in good faith.

to put it simply. no one wants the people who exposed russian war crimes to be punished for that leak. we see the value in it. how then can you turn around and make an exception for assange and the us? it's a nonsense argument.

I'd argue the opposite. For instance, the original incident involving the helicopter isn't event mentioned anymore, even by Assange supporters. They instead argue about the lofty ideals of whistleblowing as a means to "expose" government activities. The US's view is that it can't set a precedent whereby hacking is viewed as a legitimate way to illegally obtain information, especially when there are already legal avenues to do so (examples: The Freedom of Information Act, anonymous sources etc). Therefore they are not going after him because of one particular incident, they are doing so out of precedent to prevent information from being obtained through illegal hacking.

Got in bed with Russia and paid the price, export him already. Journalist my arse.
Assange is a rapist, a narcissist, a liar and a Russian propagandist. That's not what he's being hunted for, people are after him for helping expose American war crimes. Tolerating the US using their power to squash whistleblowers, journalists and publishers just because they happen to be shitty people is fecked up, and yes, people can be journalists and publishers even if they're shitty people.

By all means, send him to Sweden to stand trial for the rapes, but sending him to the US is fashy at best.

Isn't the rape charge for something ridiculous like not using protection. It's still a shitty thing to do and deserves some sort of criminal punishment but calling it rape actually undermines the experience of other victims of the rape.

If consent is given on the understanding that he uses protection, and he doesn't use protection, it is rape and not 'ridiculous' because the person involved has not consented to sex without protection.
