“I’m over the moon to sign professionally here and cannot wait to get going. Having come through United’s Academy, to now sign pro at this great club, is a really proud day for me and my family.”

Marc Skinner:
“We are delighted to see Keira sign professionally for Manchester United, as she becomes the 13th Academy graduate to sign for our women’s first team since we reformed in 2018, continuing the proud tradition of our youth pathway for both women and men at this great football club.”

That's hard. I wondered what had happened to her this season as she's not been on the bench and hadn't gone out on loan. Hopefully they've been able to fix the problem.

Another loan that makes absolute sense. I was impressed by her in the pre-season minutes she got, but I doubt she would really get any game time with us this season.
I've decided to put a positive spin on this and assume that it means Williams, Galton and Rolfo (are least) will be back in action soon. Though personally I'd have liked to see some more of her (and Emma) before they went out on loan.

So shes on loan for the first half of the season and then her contract expires at the end of the season (contract extension above) ? I know the contracts and finances arent like the mens team but I can't help but think this leaves us too vulnerable to lose another player with some potential on a free transfer

Wow, huge move for Keira. I remember watching the Youth League Cup final (that's not what it was called, but it's not the FA Women's Youth Cup) and she was a standout in that victory. For anyone's calendar context, it was the same season that Garnacho and Mainoo starred in the FA Youth Cup winning team for the men.

Whilst it is a shame to see an academy graduate move away rather than play for us, we must remember the purpose of the United academy - it is to give young people careers, not to make money (Chelsea/City men in particular, looking at you). From the David Beckhams to the Luke Chadwicks, the Ella Toones to the Keira Barrys - we give young people a grounding to have a solid career in football. Whilst not graduating to the first team squad, this transfer should be seen as a salute to the quality of our academy, and everything Man Utd stands for.

Very well said.
