We would have bought him if he hadn't done his ACL that season. LVG was a big fan.

A year left before he loses every bit of ability he’s ever had then, according to this forum anyway

Looks like Gaitian knocked us back to play for Chicago in MLS at the ripe old age of 31.

He's almost 30 with dodgy knees. If Jose was still here, Marseille would be receiving a fax offer of £200 million + James Garner to land him

Honestly he's the prime example of talent ruined by injuries. At the time he was linked to us everyone was drooling over it.

Now that move I didn't know. Odd by Atletico to sign him and barely played so just thought he'd gone back to Portugal or mid table La Liga club.

Pretty sure we were tracking him in SAF's final year too. Reckon if he hadn't retired we'd have made a play for Strootman that summer.

Should have signed him and Herrera that summer but Moyes hadn't a fecking clue.

Maybe Strootman never does his knees in with United, or maybe that type of player is destined to wreck his knees at some point.

However, I would be all for a cheeky bid for Sneijder.

Nice. Can’t wait for the links to him. It’s a shame that Sneijder retired. What player is going to fill that void in the transfer stories now?

Jokes aside, it was reported that SAF had deals lined up for Strootman, Thiago and Garay that summer for Moyes, only for him to veto all three. What a fecking idiot.
