I think he's a good player, solid technique, can get forward o.k (probably not as good as Robertson).

Intelligent signing by Arsenal as Monreal is old now and Kolasinic certainly not that good defending.

would be a good signing at that price of 25m

be nice to have young talented options like Wan Bissaka, Dalot, Tierney and Shaw

hes the kind of player you would have imagined Spurs chasing

Given how tight our reported budget this summer is, we can't be using £25m on a left-back this summer - it's basically the one position in our starting XI that doesn't NEED urgent attention, especially given that basically all of our best players (reportedly) want out, and one has already gone. Priorities have to lay elsewhere, however good he might be.

We need to start making smart, longterm deals and Tierney at 25m certainly looks like one. We’re not going to solve all the issues with this squad in one window no matter how efficiantly we use whatever budget Ole’s been given for the summer. What we need to do is to sure it up and then take it from there. One specialist LB isn’t sustainable situation, especially not with Shaw, who’s known to pick up a few niggles along a season, being our main man.

    Get him!

Not sure how reliable that report is though. Assuming it's true.. that can be a steal by Arsenal and years after the caf will complain why didn't we get him. I doubt Ed will make the move though having already an expensive LB who signed new contract last season.

    LB competition and Quality depth.
We have Shaw, Young and Dalot (Darmian and Rojo).
Dalot is better on the right and we need his attacking talent there than the left, and the other three just need to leave with 2 of 'em sooner the better. Young can stay as cover for one more season at most since he's declining. Shaw is our only natural longer term LB and he needs to start doing more, I anticipate he'll feel his place is safe and secure thus eventually start playing in an easy-lazy way.

None of our youth is seemingly breaking through to the LB spot, and I doubt Ole is opening that door anyway, seeing his reluctance to even try some of 'em in a pointless game last season. New transfers with fees at least he'll have some pressure to use that player.

We can go cheap on LB and RB positions if we go for Tierney and Vrsaljko. With Shaw/Tierney + Dalot/Vrsaljko we would be covered on this positions for years with quality players.

Coleman was very good but unfortunately took up full time football (and went to England) too late. The leg break a couple of years ago was an unfortunate occurrence too. I'd love to have seen how he would have turned out had he focused on football from a young age.

Shaw can't play left back every week and besides him its not even premier league quality its not a priority but it needs to be addressed.

If the rest of the team was sorted and we didn’t need to spend in several other areas then yes he would be good for back up, because unlike what a lot of the CAF seem to say who have only seen him on YouTube or sole basis is on FM he isn’t anywhere near as good as Shaw is. His preferred position is also CB and that’s where he sees him self playing eventually.

We need 2 midfielders, a RB,a CB, a RW and possibly a striker. LB is Shaw’s since you aren’t getting better for less that 60 mil and that Dalot and You g can cover for at least another year.

If we’re the richest club in the league/world, but we consider ourselves “fine” at LB because we have exactly 1 unconvincing LB in the squad...then 1) what’s the point being rich and 2) that’s more small club mentality

He could be the next "Robertson" if you know what I mean. You see how well It worked out for Liverpool. Tierney is a talented player and for a bargain price is for sure worth the reward.

I remember very well the Caf scoffing at Van Dijk when he was at Celtic. Bought by Southampton for £13 million..... and not good enough for us was the Caf cry. From what I have seen and I confess to only watching Celtic on Sky, he looks full of promise to me. My cousins, who are season ticket holders, wax lyrical about him.

I can't believe we haven't tried to sign this bargain.

We’re a Luke Shaw injury away from putting out the worst LB in the entire league. Not sure how not having a single backup LB is a non pressing issue

I see him as a good fit for the Premier League - has the pace, dynamism and directness. Sound left peg as well. I don't think he's pushed on much in the last 18 months, but he still has plenty of potential. Would be a solid investment for Arsenal. Quite tricky to judge his Champions League performances as Sinclair ahead of him was usually pretty hopeless off the ball and often ended up overloaded against the best opposition. But individually he's looked like he belongs in higher company, having also caused City some problems when they met a couple of years ago.

Is it? I mean that would be great for Scotland, but his experience there must be limited to one or two games in his career to date.

He's very injury prone and proven only in Scotland, Utd should steer clear off him. You should put your time and resources in finding a replacement for Lingard and a cm to partner Pogba.

This is my thoughts on him as well. He looked a massive talent initially but he’s been never really kicked on much the last year or two. There is a chance this is due to not moving earlier in fairness so might improve with a new club.

Since when has he wanted to be a CB?

Tierney will never be a CB, I’ve watched him there for Scotland but that was Scotland just trying to get him and Robertson in the same side.

Living in Scotland, I watch Celtic a lot - Tierney would be a big improvement on Luke Shaw. He’s got a similar attitude and mentality to Robertson. However he’s had issues with his hip that’d be my only concern. Think he had surgery recently on it.

I´m sorry, but he´s never been a CB; he has played as good as all his games for Celtic on the left back, or occasionally left side of a back 3, or with 3 at the back, as a LM. But he´s a left back, at that´s it, really.

I've never read that anywhere, where'd you get that from?

Never seen him play CB (though only ever seen highlights) and he's what.... 5' 9" ?

£25 million is a no brainer. Shaw is an average player with interludes of playing better. Were spunking £50-60 million on the other side, but we have Young and Dalot to cover. I dont believe for one second the report we only have £100 million to invest in players. If it were true, we may as well pack in now trying for top 4.

Imagine Shaw playing in the Scottish league against Dundee and St. Mirren... You just cannot compare Tierney´s performances against these teams with Shaw´s performances in the PL.

You have been misinformed as this isn’t true in the slightest. He is a natural left back who occasionally plays further up field as a left midfielder. He doesn’t play centre back and honestly doesn’t have the skillset or physique to play there.

Obviously much like you couldn’t compare Van Dijks either and look what’s happened with him.

Shaw is bang average with a lazy mentality. Tierney would put him out the team.

Or you could compare him to Stefan Johansen - player of the year in Scotland - in England, Championship level.

Van Dijk is a different story, really. If you 3 years ago said he would be a would class defender, I would have agreed - and so would most Celtic fans. I don´t think there are many Celtic fans expecting the same from Tierney, despite his popularity.

I also live in Scotland and he has played CB for Celtic a few times as well as playing for Scotland on the left side of a 3. He said in a tv interview I was watching that his long term future will probably be as a CB and that’s where he sees himself ending up eventually.

I found it weird he would say such a thing as he is only 5ft 10 but then Canavaro and Puyol were hardly giants and did alright so maybe he can do it. I think it was on STV I watched it.

You’re also entitled to your opinion but you’re kidding yourself if you think he is better than Shaw.

We'd be daft to ignore him at anything like that price. Hear he has a great character too which we're obviously desperately in need of.

Can't see it happening though and it's understandable, we've got so many higher priorities (scary) than having one decent left-back at the club.

Thought it was centre midfield? Pretty sure that’s been mentioned a few times.

Somebody on this site knows him really well through his family.

Yeah, that is what he said. Annoyingly he quit the site, his input would be invaluable right about now. From last year:

He was wrong about the captaincy but does look like he'll be leaving this summer.

Tierney is a quality full back and someone I would love to see the club go for. Talk about a man that would give 100% every game and be a stalwart at the club for many years, he’s only just turned 22.

He won the Scottish young footballer of the year three years in a row from 16-18, I know it’s a limited league but he’s quality and consistent.

    Get the chequebook out Ed!

Wouldn't read too much into winning that award three years in a row. Not convinced he deserved it in 15/16, started 23 league games and Celtic got knocked out of both cups and he was woeful in the 3-1 defeat in the league cup vs Ross County. It's not like his assists/goals return was anything great either.

Dembele was much better and deserved the award in 16/17, Tierney got injured a missed a lot of games.

shambolic from the club to not pursue at that price & given the fact Shaw’s alternative/back up is Ashley Young.

Genuinely readying myself for the worst of seasons.

We’re trying to sign a £90mil centre back when we don’t have the funds/squad to justify the outlay on one position.

We are years away from that ‘one piece’, we should be all over this. competition for Shaw & raising quality in our FB position.
