A bit off topic but is a watch a materialistic item? Maybe if it was a hugely expensive one, but in general it's practical to own a watch.
I'm assuming he meant it as in most lads his age wear it as a fashion item for the bling. Personally i find them uncomfortable, and would prefer to check my phone instead.

A watch is one of those items where you can spend ten pounds and a million pounds. A typical accessory where you can flaunt your wealth. That's what he means. He's not talking about the convenience of watches but rather of not having tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of bling bling on your person.

Liked Tierney for a while and think we should be all over this transfer especially at this price. Decent player, good bit of experience for someone as young as he is 170 first team including over 100 in the league, with European and International football experience, leadership qualities and available for amazing price. Also a bit of competition for Shaw would be healthy and hopefully make Shaw up his game well.

Agreed.
There are good players with a decent price considering the transfer market value. Rabiot, Tielemans, Jovic, etc are an example of this. We could improve our defense with Alderweireld (25m) and Tierney to compete with Shaw.

Out of interest how does the Scottish national team fit him and Robertson into the same 11? We can't seem to find a way to get Coleman and Doherty onto the same pitch.
With difficulty. Tried Tierney at right-back but he's got the handbrake on as doesn't know how to play the position well. Perhaps after a few games he could get the hang of it. If we were playing a 3-5-2 Tierney would fit nicely at LCB, but none of our defenders have much experience in a back three, and our best players at the minute are probably the wingers in Fraser and Forrest, who don't fit the formation that well either. Probably the next step is to try him at CB inside Robertson in a back four. Our CBs are bang average so it may be the best solution.

Can we just go and buy a left back. Shaw now injured having already had some straps on his thigh. Is it too much to ask to have more than one left back at the club? Shaw is injury prone and prone to poor form. This kid is available for small money.

Before somebody buys him at a good price, just go and get him. At worst, quality LB depth who can also play as part of a back 3. At best, a quality all round left back who solves the problem of Shaw being decent but not quite good enough to ever truly be happy with while also always worrying about his injuries but still thinking if he stays fit then it's not a priority to fix.

I guess we have Dalot and Young to cover for Shaw but realistically we don't even know if Shaw is going to kick on or just suck and be injured all season. Can't hurt with an actual competitor if the price is right.

The thing is, our resident football expert, Ed, will argue that Shaw was supposed to be our left back for 15 years and therefore we don’t need to buy a second one until 2030

Shaw getting injured shows how close we are to having Young start.

Pay the 25m. We’d be able to pay it instalments no doubt anyway, Celtic don’t need the £.

I hope we get another LB in before the window shuts. Going into the new season with Shaw as the only specialist for the position is a worry.

Spurs are about to hijack the Saliba deal from Arsenal it seems. We should do the same with Tierney.

Tierney has his own injury problems

https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/...enal-target-kieran-tierneys-osteitis-16579319

“He's still injured and he's rehabbing.

“He had a double hernia and he still has the Osteitis pubis problem so it's a slow burner that one.”

Osteitis pubis is described in the Journal of Athletic Training as "a painful, chronic syndrome that affects the symphysis pubis, adductor and abdominal muscles, and surrounding fascia.

If misdiagnosed or mismanaged, osteitis pubis can run a prolonged and disabling course."
Out for at least another month.

We will lose both Him and Sessegnon and then go into market for a left back.

I'm assuming his injury issues are holding back clubs, because he has everything to succeed in PL. Even Celtic have brought a new left back in seemingly to replace him as they spent 3 million on Mbombo which is a pretty big fee for them these days. I see them now wanting more than 25 million from Arsenal, everyone wants the big money these days. They might have to bite the bullet and take the 25, which is still a great profit on one of their own or keep him this season, let him get his fitness back and sell him next season. He'd only be 23 next season.

It's just figuring out if last year was a one off or it is something that will become the norm for him.

Apart from last year his injury record is good actually. Think he played 170 games for Celtic in just over 4 season, which is about 40 games a season.
If it was me, I’d leave him there until January to see how he recovers

Buy him now and he might not play til Christmas anyway
I think the club has carefully evaluated his medical issues. If the diagnosis was that he wouldn't play till Christmas, we wouldn't be trying to buy him now. I think at the moment it is believed he is about a month away from being able to join full training. Obviously it is hard to predict the exact time but think the consensus seems to be around that time frame. Unless something goes wrong with his recovery and he has a setback.

With both Trippier and Rose looking to leave Spurs I can see them going for Tierney. Thoughts?
Genuinely surprised more clubs aren't in for him as he was highly rated a year or so back and is still young. Worth a shot at that price, and Spurs could do worse.

Not sure Spurs want to make a hattrick of deals where they have tried to muscle in on our targets and come out second best :)

Tierney would be ideal considering his price. But we have been linked with Firpo who IMO is a better LB. Also, there are other quality left-backs like Grimaldo, Telles, etc. Maybe we are going to buy a top LB next season if we release Young.

This is a no brainier. £25 for young left back who has played at a decent level for 4 years. Pat Nevin raves about him.

Wish he was this cheap, would pay it out of my own pocket.

Apparently O Connor in the U23s is highly regarded and can cover every position in the backline.
Comparisons with Lahm have been bandied around which are probably over the top but I know John O Shea has spoken highly of the young man so I look forward to watching him play. I have no access to MUTV now but I was getting sick of the commentaries anyway as they seemed blind to reality.

Celtic’s statement after Tierney departed today is yet another example of the sheer delusional on show in the green half of Glasgow. It was eerily similar to the delusion showcased when Rodgers left town for Leicester a few months back. They are the second-most cringiest club in world football after Liverpool (and just nudging Dortmund into third place). It’s no surprise that these three clubs enjoy one another’s company and regularly clap each other on the back. Absolute weirdos.

Sad about this. He'll be a superb buy for them.

We probably should have bought either Tierney or Sessegnon to challenge Shaw for the left back spot. Both went for £25m, which seems pretty cheap in today's market.

You can add barcelona to that list. That holier-than-thou attitude and 'mes que un club' does my head every single time. This from a club whose former president spent time in jail and was involved in one of the dodgiest deals in the neymar saga.
