I love that we have another youngster knocking at the door for some first team minutes; however I don't get how he has suddenly become one where so many are pinning hopes on.
Look at Garnacho, despite all his undoubtedly talent he had a really poor game last night. Youngsters will lack consistency and I'd argue that in midfield and defence that can be very damaging to the team. So yeah hope Mainoo gets some understudy minutes but we can't rely on him this season at least.

Unlike Garnacho his best position is in a position of need. He’s got the attributes the other midfielders lack.

Right, but he's still also only 18 and it's an arguably more crucial position... His rough games will be even more costly.

A player with his experience/ age is someone you want to bring in to get the game time/experience at advantageous times... It's asking a lot of him to play a vital part of our squad so early on.

I’m not saying it’s ideal, in fact far from but that Cas-Mount-Bruno experiment is going to end terribly.

If he were fit I could see him constantly being brought on around 60mins. EtH will persist with Mount as he has with Antony but he’ll be dragged off fairly regularly I reckon.

Garnacho struggles when he’s face with someone as quick as him, needs to learn his trade some more. Once we have a fit striker he’s out of the team and Rashford will play on the left. Then he’ll become an impact sub where he’s gene been far more effective.
I don’t think anyone is pinning their hopes on Mainoo, he’s an understudy at best and someone who can play alongside Casemiro in certain games.
Lads an exceptional talent, if he can avoid injuries he’s nailed on to make it at United.

He had a good pre-season and the balance of our midfield is a state. You're right that it's unfair to place those expectations on a kid but it's a product of bad recruitment in that area of the pitch this summer.

Maybe it’s also a show of faith? If we add Amrabat we have essentially prioritised Mainoo over someone like Lavia because we feel he’s a bigger talent

He's obviously highly regarded but as a teenager he should still be afforded the time and space to grow organically. I like what I've seen from Mainoo so far and hope to see him given opportunities in the team but we shouldn't be in a position where we're having to depend on him producing now.

If Amrabat does sign that might change the picture somewhat, but at this point in time Mainoo might be the only midfielder we have who is both proficient in build up and defensively robust. I think it's more of a comment on the monumental waste of resources put towards Mason Mount than anything else.

Young players rarely grow as a developing story outside of the overall plan. They are included in said plan and given faith due to their potential. We have a lot of midfielders and if we add Amrabat it will be enough to give us numbers but also not too much that IF we have faith Mainoo (remains to be seen), it allows him space to prove himself.

Two months from now is the mid-October international break when England play Italy.

I know there's no way of being so precise about his comeback, but an international break would give him the perfect run-up to start playing club football again. It would mean he's only going to miss the next 7 PL matches, 2 CL matches and 0 League Cup & FA Cup fixtures. Not the best matches to miss, but not the worst either.

The start of the season tends to be a bit quieter at club level and has 2 international breaks interrupting it. So if you're going to be out for any period, that's probably the best from a domestic club perspective. Hopefully he can get fit enough again to stake a proper claim before the Christmas schedule when we'll really need the extra bodies.

How well was he rated as a prospect?

I like how nimble he is, hope he makes it.

Disappointed to see how this injury has panned out for him. Hope the recovery is swift and he's back into the first team fold. Remember it was injury that partly gave Rashford his chance. United don't have the room financially to move for a midfielder in the market so this is the players chance to break through its a very important opportunity that he needs and hopefully will capitalize on.

Especially overlooking the development at Arsenal I'm massively behind the club taking more chances on these young players especially with redundant owners a strategy that resembles emphasis on the youth breaking through is more sustainable. It's funny for all the signings LVG made it was the ones that came from the academy that had a decent more potent impact along with the signing of Martial in his first season. Hopefully Mainoo can kick on this season.

So if he's saying he can partner Casemiro in a 2? What about his new 433 two advanced mid system?

I know he’s young but he’d be primed for a breakthrough imo. He’s the best foil for a Casemiro.

I think he’d have got real minutes early this season.
Agreed. He's a big talent and it was disappointing to see him suffer a injury. But I'm looking forward to his return because we don't have a player of his profile in our midfield.

That's not a issue either because Mainoo can pay more advanced aswell. There's several ways to utilise the 433. Another way is to have one of the midfielders starting at RB and inverting into midfield.

Another fecking blow. That “8” position between Bruno and Case is looking like a gaping hole in the squad. We will do F all about it.

Saw the press conference video, the question is about playing Casemiro's role not alongside him as claimed in that tweet.

Jesus. Two months. What was his injury?
Vini landed on the outside of his ankle, bad sprain, possibly some ligament damage I'd guess for 2 months? Guessing some point between the October break and November break he'll be back

Ok thanks. Can't see Mount,Bruno,Mainoo working either, but we'll see
We will see indeed. It worked against Arsenal but I was a preseason game. Also ETH means for mount to do more defensive work than he showed against Wolves.

Certain players just have that swagger and look so comfortable when receiving the ball. They move around the pitch like they’ve been playing for decades. This kid is that. You feel you could put him straight into a big game and he wouldn’t look out of place. Doesn’t need bedding in period.

He should be next to Casemiro. Barcelona promoted Gavi and Pedri when they were 16/17. Gavi is now 19 going into his 3rd full season and Pedri is 20 going into his 4th - Saving them 100s of millions in transfer and wages.

Im not saying Mainoo is as good as they are, but if he doesnt start playing we wont know. If he is a hit, and judging by the current prices of midfielders, that could be £100m+ saved.
