My post wasn't really in response to yours because nothing Cas said was unbelievable was more so just a personal thing. Rule of thumb now for me is if a don't see a source on the post I'm just gonna assume it's fake.

Mainoo really needs to step up in his development, he looks like he's lost something compared to his debut season.
Just saw the Japan game highlights and Mainoo was a bystander. So many Japan transition just passed him by and he was always a few seconds behind the game. Didnt see him involved in anything meaningful atleast in the highlights.
Doubtful he will be at the world Cup with that performance

He's had a difficult 2 seasons mentally, and he's done alright for us since coming back into the team. He's a great enabler, allowing other players to do their thing while he stays tidy and does the basics right. He definitely can show more application in his passing range(it's there, but he doesn't seem confident enough to attempt it more) and his positioning gets wayward at times. But he's 20 years old, playing as a first team regular in a team always under constant scrutiny. He needs to improve, sure, but he's in a great place for that to happen as a 20 year old. Him getting this time next to Cas as well is only going to bolster that experience.

He was good all evening, hard to judge off highlights. Played well, won the ball back, kept it moving and at least attempted to play forward passes
He's lost confidence. Amorim did a number on him and he's now playing within himself to avoid mistakes. I think he's a big talent with plenty of development potential to go
He definitely wasn't rubbish. What the highlight clearly indicate is that England didn't create enough but I would put that mainly down to the front 4 not gelling or playing well as individuals.
It was the same old problem, the players were way too slow and static, Japan just moved the ball quickly and ran in to space, England's players basically jogged around, Mainoo was a part of that but he was no worse than anyone else
It feels like he's playing too conservative now with spurts of attack. He was much more attacking when he first came in, he's too unselfish to the point where it feels like he's hiding. I don't know if it's a confidence issue but someone needs to get to his head and tell him to be more selfish and go at players. That's one of things he's been missing.
Attending nba games first row acting as celeb when he barely made it to England squad and might not be a starter here next season. We have another Rashford in the team and we really do need to deal with egos.
I don't care if he's confident and flashy off the pitch, he needs to be confident on the pitch. Not good enough to play 5 yard passes all the time if you want to be a top midfielder. Even Didier Deschamps was more expansive than Mainoo is in many games. We don't need that Anthony Joshua false swagger, we need Didier Drogba / Eric Cantona real swagger.

The problem is spotlight around the badge of Manchester United which brings way too many eyes and views help these egos be bigger than what they offer on the pitch. I mean look at Rashford not minding be on the bench and second option to Raphinha. Not a single interview, not night outs and not missing training due to illness. We need serious players and not flashy rappers wanna be around the dressing room.

Somehow they stop the cool instagram captions and flashy look once they are outside the door. I can name you at least 4 players that wen full silence after they left. We will have to deal with Mainoo for at least 2 years before he represents a mid table London side.

See this is just silly. He's only 20 and his coaches seem to like him, he's not the finished article and has a lot to learn but that doesn't mean he's a useless twerp like Garnacho. If he ends up not being good enough, that's just how it is. Ben Foster would be an example of a very talented, perfectly nice bloke who didn't end up making the grade at United. Still had a good career.
For me he needs to work on a lot in terms of his game. I would break it down as follows:
1. Short passing - good
2. Long passing - poor
3. Vision - poor
4. Dribbling - good
5. Shooting - good
6. Press resistance - excellent
7. Tackling - average
8. Pressing - poor
9. Defensive anticipation- poor
10. Pace - average
Right now there is too much he is poor at to secure a starting spot long term. Maybe that can change though with time and experience. Midfielder is tough and Scholes wasn’t ready for midfield until much later

Especially when you consider the amount of games we’ve had over the past couple of weeks and coming up.
One NBA game is bad enough, but multiple games… that’s something to worry about.
