Burnley 2:2 Man Utd New
Mainoo is comfortably our best midfielder on the ball. He's far better than either Ugarte or Casemiro at that. In the final 20 minutes of the game he played three or four passes under pressure that broke the Burnley press around him and got us on the front foot in midfield.

I'd play him every week.

Yeah this guy is gonna make his way back, far from the complete midfielder but he oozes football and is so strong. Very difficult to get the ball of him.

Decent cameo but that attempted through ball to Sesko illustrated what really lacks in Mainoo’s game — he really needs to develop his penetrative passing

His passing is about as expansive as Ugarte but what he lacks for in mobility and shin kicking he makes up for with control in tight spaces

Should play ahead him

What we generally lack is mobility and muscles, not control in tight spaces.

Surprised to see all the positive posts in here - quite the contrast to the other Mainoo thread

I thought he had a very bad cameo. Threw the ball away carelessly a couple of times and that awful shot from 40 yards out just doesn't do anything good - cost us a potential attack, 45 valuable seconds and just doesn't reflect well on him.

What were you watching? It was a pretty terrible half hour

Horrendous cameo

Hard situation to come into though. Barely played all season and just off an injury

Can't pass forward. Get the red tinted glasses off lads, that was so poor and not for the first time either.

Some people just can’t get past their agenda driven nonsense. He was absolutely fine after an injury and very little football all season. An improvement on Casemiro’s cameo easily.

His passing is nowhere near good enough to play in midfield. In tight spaces in and around the oppsition box is where he shines and he should be playing further up the pitch than he did today.

He was terrible, made passes youd expect him to but wasnt expansive on the ball, nor did he create any chances and shanked one high and wide.

I just don't see it at all with him.

Hard to choose to turn it back on once you switch off.

Sounds like he's been checked out and suddenly his fortunes changed and not got his head right.

A training cone would have been better than Case today. More excuses for Mainoo

He’s going to need patience and minutes to get back to his best, unsure he will be given either but I hope he is.

He played as a 10 before and was hopeless.

Jesus Christ some of you!
He's been injured and hardly played all season and you expect him to be amazing straight away

The one where looked calm on the ball when under pressure and played through the press.

I don't think he was brilliant, but when he was in the ball I didn't have the same worries about losing possession as I did with our starting midfield.

The miracle Mainoo fit and ready, proving everyone.. Oh wait, I suppose he didn't get many minutes. Bluffer

Excuse for what and for who? He’s obviously going to get much more minutes with whoever manages us next, because there’s not many options and nobody can be as stubborn as Amorim.

Like yeah. I mean I am not going to judge him for today. Has not played for a while, coming back from injury etc, but he was really bad. Shocked about how well he is received.

Given that he hasn’t played much and he’s just came back from injury, he’s had a fairly good game. His ball control is good. Needs to work on unlocking attackers. Should learn how to find spaces to pass forward.

Work to be done in training for sure. But i think it was a good cameo

It really is some weird behaviour from some of our 'fans'.

He looked rusty and that's normal, he's coming off an injury and lack of real playing time.

Mount just got back too and he was completely uninvolved until the pass to Shaw but no one will judge him on today, rightfully.

No energy, didn't impact the game much but brought down the ball well and passed it to others. His normal performance.

Yeah, of course he should have a fair run of games, but it's been a general problem after the Euros 18 months ago. He's been plagued by injuries and Amorim, but whenever he's finally got a chance, he's not taken it. One of those players that gets better the less he plays.

There's something about his attitude/mentality that I also don't like that much. It's a shame as I really really liked him both as a player and as a character when he first broke through.

He has been bad this season off the bench, never really shown Amorim why he should start.

Today was just a continuation of that.

he has always been like that but romance goggles doesn’t help

He was absolutely fine tonight- not sure what people are expecting. Gave the ball away a few times but overall did okay. Feeling his was back too

He was okay but looked rusty which is to be expected. If he's got an hour in him, I'd start him in the FA Cup and see how he does, with the expectation he will be on the bench vs City and Arsenal. I can see Ole (or Carrick) preferring a Ugarte and Casemiro base for those games.

There are posters on here really saying Mainoo faked an injury to get out of playing for Amorim. That despite the same former manager saying the player has been close to returning for the last week.

The agendas being peddled here are fascinating and divorced from reality.
