Casemiro was mint today, but Kobe has done well as well. Game that suit Mainoo, conceding posession but be smart on the ball when needed.

Good solid game.

Its amazing how good everyone looks when the tactics are right and the team is playing to win.

Amorims formation just didn’t suit him, not suited to a 2 man midfield… put 3 in and your on to a winner.
I'm not sure that's it, Bruno was playing up top for large parts of the game and we were in a 442 shape. We just minimised the spaces between players and it played to Mainoo's strengths as he didn't have to eat up too much ground.

When we open up against teams who are sitting deep will be when we might suffer. Opponents will be trying exploit Case and Mainoo's pace on the break which is where we are weak. Hopefully we can mitigate that with our setup though.

Some United fans allowed themselves to be gaslit by Amorim to believe that Mainoo can’t play well in a deeper midfield role.
In time this will go down as one of the most baffling things within the fanbase.

Today he looked like first season Mainoo again. Just shows the quality is always there. He's lost about a year of development due to injuries and a twat of a manager but is still young enough.

So much talent and still can get much better. Was a really good performance today.

Of course, but what I mean is with a CM and playing other players in their best positions. Our form could have been much better.

And this isn't all on Amorim to be fair, the club are as much or more to blame for this fiasco. When you have Bruno Fernandes you don't sign 2 other players for a combined £140m to play at no10, shifting Bruno out of position in the process. When you badly need reinforcements elsewhere, it was poor squad planning and now leaves us with too many no10s as we're moving back to a 4231.
You're absolutely spot on. And not only Bruno but Mount, and even Zirkzee could be utilised in those central attacking half spaces. Zirkzee is only useful when he drops into those central attacking spaces.

We wasted a lot of time he could have used for development

I dont think zirkzee should be anywhere near the team and needs moved on. Hes been poor for most of his time here bar a couple of moments

He sprinted back, kinda, to close down space in the 83rd minute. Never thought I would see it.

Not great out of possession, but he excels on the ball A great partnership with Casemiro.

Just stop with the Amorim comments, he does not matter anymore and we must move on.

Today Kobbie was really good especially defensively and his intensity was so good today.

For me this is a new chapter for Kobbie, I don't care what happened before and my expectations of Kobbie are still very high, he should aim to be one of the best CMs in Europe and this is his chance to show under Carrick how good he can be.

I agree. It's was a complete waste of money buying Zirkzee and Ugarte. Something I said in their first seasons at the club.

But if the decision was made to keep him at the club for this season and we also had Bruno, Mount and Amad at the club. Then if we had any sense at all, then we should've prioritised the midfield with 2 midfield acquisitions and those midfielders didn't necessarily have to be huge money out-lays either imo. And as long you as a club follow a criteria when signing players, then the pool of players and your scope as a club can be far and wide reaching as far as identifying the correct profile of players for what is required.

So he can play alongside Bruno, who would've thought...huh...
He didn’t, though; he played alongside Casemiro with Bruno in front of them.

We always knew he could play and thrive in a midfield three. He definitely doesn’t have the athleticism to play in a midfield two, though not many do, to be fair. You’d have to be an exceptional athlete, with incredible work rate and stamina, to cover that much ground.

Anyway, good game from Mainoo. Hopefully, we can have our golden boy back. Not so long ago, he was a nailed starter, scoring in an FA Cup final and starting in the Euros, and suddenly he was deemed not good enough. It’s not too late he’s still only 20. There’s still plenty of room for improvement and growth. May it continue for a long time.

I hope this spell on the sidelines is in the long term a good thing for him. He is so young and was in danger of being run into the ground with the amount of games in his teens. Now he hopefully will be physically better for it.

Yep, I've no idea why we signed both MBeumo and Cunha when we already had a lot of options there.

Problem with Zirkzee is he cant press.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Much like knee jerk bollocks is temporary, and understanding football is permanent.

He played in midfield 2 alongside Casemiro. Bruno played more upfront in his natural role as number 10. Also, Jorginho who is one of the slowest midfieder won CL in midfield 2 so that is clearly nonsense. People will say he had Kante alongside of him but in form Casemiro (and for 60 - 70 minutes while his legs are fine) is a good partner for Mainoo as well.

Also, we played 4-4-2 out of possession so it definitely wasn't midfield 3.

He struggles when he's asked cover territory horizontally without the ball. He's actually much more comfortable as a true pivot, especially in defense, but he's rarely been deployed that way since his breakout season. Of all the knee slapping comedy the Caf produces, the way he's been criticized might be the absolute peak.

Welcome back Stockport Xavi!!

Funny enough.. he couldn’t run either. Thank god that system is gone.

Arsenal fan here - I've been completely baffled the past 12 months at the number of Utd fans here that suddenly concluded that Mainoo can't ball simply to justify Amorim gluing him to the bench. Madness! I will gladly have Kobbie at the Emirates if you guys don't want him

Yeah he needs to sort that out. There were a few occasions where hthe lack of intensity to get at someone or back in to space forced someone else to have to do it which could have cost us.

On the ball you can see the difference he makes and the ability in tight spaces, on it he was fantastic but he needs to raise the intensity in which he does the small intricate things.

If he does sky really is the limit for him, could be very special.

Proving once again that backing an incompetent manager is one of the most dangerous things a football club can do.

Anybody with two eyes and half a brain is not surprised by the performance today. We literally saw it for almost a full season before in several huge games. Yet Amorim truthers tried to convince us otherwise. Pathetic.

Was just short of outstanding today and if nothing else proved to the world that Kobbie Mainoo is a proper Manchester United footballer, notwithstanding the shit the previous manager subjected him to.

This kid was keeping the ball, evading tackles and dropping the shoulder at the Euro semis and finals while Rice looked lost.

And many people don't rate him. Absolutely incredible.

Composure and creativity in the middle of the park are the hardest skills in all of football and he has it in abundance.

He has flaws like passing range but he'll get there. The lack of athleticism is overblown. The best midfielders aren't physical beasts ie Scoles, Pirlo, Alonso, Modric, Vitinha

He definitely has something special. We often say about players like Scholes and Bruno who can find a target from 40+ yards that they have great vision, which is true, but I will say that Mainoo’s vision and understanding of when and how to find space in a crowded area to shimmy and bring the ball with him is very special and tio has a great level of vision. Great on the ball! Looked to have some fire in him today!

Most fans critical of Mainoo don’t think he isn’t good enough in terms of technical ability or general footballing ability. The main issue has been with his stamina, pace and intensity. If he turns that around and shows more of this for the rest of the season then he’ll be a very good player for us and could force his way into next seasons first 11, if not he’ll be a squad player.

It’s in Kobbie’s hands. I hope he pushes on.

This is the Mainoo that pretty much all of his supporters knew still existed.

Incredible to think that some people said he’s not a PL midfielder or could use a loan in the championship.

Can’t wait to see his improvement with more starts and coaching from a top midfielder.

In defense Bruno came back and helped. It was definitely a midfield 3 out of possession.

Regarding Jorginho, there's a reason why people keep mentioning Kante.
