Barcelona to fight attempt to move clásico from Camp Nou to Madrid

Barcelona intend to resist attempts to move the clásico on 26 October from the Camp Nou to the Santiago Bernabéu after the Spanish league proposed the change amid protest and unrest in the Catalan capital.

Nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed on Monday, handed sentences of between nine and 13 years for their role in an illegal referendum and the failed bid for independence in 2017. That ruling from the Supreme Court sparked protests, with police charges and confrontations across Catalonia. Barcelona’s El Prat airport was blocked, as were some roads. Reports said that more than 50 people have been arrested, while police used rubber and foam bullets.

Barcelona, who have always had a close identification with social and political Catalanism and are often seen as the region’s unofficial “national” team, released a statement immediately after the rulings in which they insisted that prison sentences were not the solution. The match against Madrid would be their first at home since the imprisonments, but they have no plans to postpone or change the fixture. First, they travel to Eibar this Saturday.

The league wrote to the Spanish Federation on Wednesday to ask that the game be switched to the Bernabéu to avoid any potential trouble, due to what it described as “exceptional circumstances beyond our control”. The Federation acknowledged receipt of the request and has handed the decision over to the competition committee, which has passed the information onto the two clubs and given them until Monday to respond.

Barcelona are yet to say anything publicly, but they do not welcome the suggestion and nor do they see a need to change where the game is played. A decision is expected to be made on Wednesday, when both clubs have had the chance to respond, but that is just three days prior to the game.

They've surely got to move it. Could be a potential shit show the way things are going at the minute.
They should postpone it even if Barcelona (or those who press the board )are interested in playing.
Madrid do not accept changing the order of the games, which seems normal

It's a good opportunity also for Madrid to get the game at home and capitalize on Barca's sluggish away form. A good chance to create a gap and also Barca has to go to Atletico in the first half of the season too.

Well, seeing it that way could be an advantage, although in March, with the European qualifiers and la liga in the final third coulb be interesting to play at home.
In any case as you say it will be a shit show. They already recommend not wearing Madrid shirts

Villarreal,Atlético and La liga ask federation to play in Miami the 6th of December.
The advantages for Villarreal ticket holders would be 40% discount next year, tickets and transport to go to Wanda(3000) and 600 tickets and transport to Miami.

Wow looks like Classico is postponed until December 7 (according to Rac 1) because of all the unrest in Barcelona

The 2 clubs have until Monday the 21st before 10:00am to reach an agreement between themselves for a new date. If they can't then the Spanish committee will choose the date for them. Everything seems to be pointing towards the 18th of December as the chosen date. Visca Barca.

Eibar - Barca start at 13.00. Messi, Suarez and Griez all start, as well as Busquets, Arthur and De Jong. Umtiti also start today because Pique is suspended. it's a bit weird seeing him on the bench all the time after very good first season. prediction: 2-5.

Eibar start well, have a good chance after 10 minuted but a ball from Lenglet goes over the entire Eibar team through to Griezmann who finishes well. Can't concede a simple goal like that if you want to beat Barcelona.

The full back just fell over really so all Griezzy had to do was run on and score. Even then keeper nearly saved it.

Sure but you shouldn't fall over like that, it's clumsy and results in a clumsy goal. Keeper was close but not that close. Didn't get a touch on the ball, Griezmann was never missing that.

Fantastic stop by the keeper just now on Messi 1v1. Messi fluffed his faint there.

Eibar have had quite a bit of possession but their attack is not able to bite. Barca defending well. This Barca reminds me more of Mourinho's Madrid than a typical Barca team if we just look at this match.

3-0, Suarez scores, Messi with assist. Griez did the best move there, though.

Griezmann puts Messi through 1v1 and Messi finishes by passing to Suarez's feet. 3-0, easy. Comfortable day for the front 3 with the back 7 doing Barca's leg work, Ter Stegen not having to move a muscle.

Wonder why that wasn't a pen? Gabriel with studs out in the air, Saul nicks the ball and gets caught by the studs. VAR should have called it.

Diego Costa is being shown a lot of faith by Simeone. He's a grafter and does many things well but the goals just don't seem to be there anymore. His finishing has been atrocious for Atlético.

Madrid are yet one down. If Mallorca can hang on for a draw also, it's a super weekend for Barcelona.

I can't believe how poor Celta are with the amount of talent they have.

Like us, they need a CF in January. Mina's just not good, and Aspas isn't looking like his usual self.

Cheer up, La Real-Betis on now. Proper muppet match with Fekir v Odegaard etc.
