Lamine Yamal v Cole Palmer

To me, that comes across more like a guy who just found out he has superpowers and is just testing his limits  I wouldn't say he's methodical so much as going through his options to see what works best

he has exceptional agility/lateral quickness, balance and acceleration/deceleration. Like Messi

He’s not a once in a generation dribbler like Messi was though, that’s the biggest difference I see between the two at the moment.

Neither is his pace or acceleration anywhere near young Messi.

Young Messi was dribbling past 3 or 4 players covering 40 yards. His acceleration was unreal. Yamal normally dribbles past 1 guy and plays a pass, which is impressive but not that rare for a good winger.

Yamal's playing style reminds me a lot of Riyad Mahrez.

I think you edited your post to put the bit about Saka and I don't know why you think it's funny to suggest that Southgate would start Yamal in this England team. The reason why Yamal starts for Spain at his age is that he was performing for Barcelona, one of the biggest and most storied and legendary clubs in the world. It's not the same as playing well for Chelsea or Arsenal. The English equivalent of Yamal would be starring for a Liverpool, or a United that wasn't total trash (and I don't think even those clubs are on Barcelona's level, personally, but that's my bias). I'm pretty sure that would get Southgate's attention.

EDIT: My bad, you probably didn't edit, I just missed it the first time.
You interpreted that the wrong way around. He was being sarcastic, pointing out Southgate is such an idiot he would bench Yamal.

"Like Southgate would..."
=
"Feckin' Southgate wouldn't"

Maybe we should let the 17 year old get 20 career goals and a couple of full seasons before Messi is brought up in the conversation.
Fantastic start to the season, but it's been 10 games. Let's see where he's at same time next year.

Mmmm. He's not quite as explosive and rapid, for sure, so beating 3-4 people at a time can't be his automatic first option in any situation. He's still an absolutely exceptional dribbler though, give him a bit of space and you pretty much have to foul him

Mahrez on steroids I'd say. Way better physicality that doesn't actually hinder his dribbling or mobility + way more running power. He's not gonna reach Messi's heights, but he's a multiple Ballon d'Or winner level of talent. Struggling to think of a similarly big prospect in the last 10-12 years other than Neymar and Mbappé.

Palmer ain't reaching that level but he will be a Premier League great and one of the best of his generation.

With respect, this sounds like you only became aware of him after the Euros. Those of us who follow Barca were watching him for a long time before that and we knew he was special. So his career is very young, but it didn't start this season.

I've always said that I don't think he'll be Messi, because that is an incredibly high bar, but there's very few in history that have been this good, this young. The main thing I hope for him is health.

I understand that you are excited. Great talent and he was good last season as well, but 5 goals (3 against 20th place Granada and 0 in 10 games in the CL) and 9 assists in 47 games in LaLiga and CL last season still is a bit off the 33 returns Palmer had for Chelsea last season in 33 PL games (scoring against City, Arsenal, 4 goals against us etc). PL is tougher than LaLiga right now, that's just a facts.
Yamal might become a legit world beater, but with Southgate at the Wheel I doubt he'd get many minutes in England's attacking 4 in the EUROs (Kane, Foden, Saka, Bellingham, Palmer + the not so WC Watkins, Eze, Toney.) Not many players would.

Southgate reaching a WC semi and 2 EURO finals with the generation of players he's had at his disposal is underachieving on whole new level. The most impressing part of it is that the English seems to be happy with it. They actually think reach EURO finals and a WC final is really good, even with the best squad in the world (by quite a margin to)

A) Adding up goals and assists doesn't determine who is better. Yamal is a winger. And he was better in the Euros than all the English players that you named.

B) You are horribly overrating England's crop of players. I don't think they have the best squad at all, and even if they do, it's not by 'quite a margin.' Other countries have very good squads, France, Spain, Argentina, Portugal, etc.

Waiting for any reports that de la Fuente is considering playing Lamine Yamal at left back for Spain's next game.....

If they are smart Barca would start making up fake injuries and 1001 excuses to keep Yamal off international duty and rested during the int'l breaks.

It was a a throwaway line that also included Saka and others like Trent. Basically saying, don’t worry about the LB, someone will play there. He doesn’t literally mean he has considered Palmer for LB. The fact that you have latched on to it and come running back into this thread with it, you’re probably a little too invested in this thread. It’s really not that deep.

I mean, your jabby response to a jokey comment suggests that you may actually be the one who's too invested. But then, as a Chelsea fan, I guess you'd struggle to accept the notion that Yamal is a better player than Palmer.

I personally don’t give a shit who’s better, just thought it was odd that you came running in here with something Carsley didn’t actually say. Yamal is a stunning talent. I have no interest in comparing him to Palmer.

Understandable, since he’s not.. not yet anyway.

And I think it's odd that you are responding so emotionally. But I guess you can't see that.
