Lamine Yamal

You don't get humbled in a league match in October, even if it is the Clasico. And Mendes, from the evidence of their most recent encounter, is finding it more and more difficult to deal with him one on one, and he's literally the only guy that could.

Gonna be fun watching him shine whilst you burn with hate from the sidelines.....
Cope. If he did something in this game, your fans would be giving it the big one. Now suddenly it's an irrelevant game because you lost.

Carreras hardly had any issues dealing with him.

His biggest contribution this season has been the Kings League interview.

Massive talent, but he’s a really unlikeable player that’s for sure. Can tell he’s already full of his own self importance.

I didn't say it was irrelevant. Maybe try reading what I wrote again
Carreras hardly had any issues dealing with him.

Because he's not back to full speed yet.

Obviously you haven't watched him a lot this season because the hate hurts your stomach too much.

Loved seeing him get humbled. Almost as satisfying as the Nuno Mendes game. Talks way too much.

And Mbappe has always been better.
No. Yamal belongs in the absolute highest bracket of talent in the history of football. Mbappe doesn't. Mbappe is a better goalscorer at this time mainly because Real use him as a number 9 and he is more experienced.
Yamal will be fine, he's undeniably talented and more effective than Messi was at his age, playing in La Liga where he's somewhat protected from deliberate hard tackles due to his importance in the Spanish NT. Barca & Spain are indeed overplaying an 18yo with crazy minutes on his CV which is why I can forgive the fact he doesn't defend or track back as much as he should. Yamal has to look out for himself and not go 150% every game in the interest of self-preservation and avoid injury.

Some are complaining that he's lazy versus Madrid yet claim he won't have a long career due to injury. Well, he's arguably trying his best to not overwork his body.

Barca need to keep him grounded I agree, but I can definitely see him leaving in the far future for a bigger paycheck than Barca can afford. He's not a new Messi, personality wise he's definitely more of a Neymar, the player he looks up to. He has to keep himself grounded enough to avoid Neymar's career trajectory.
The comparisons with Messi are really unwarranted mainly because of the minutes each played at this age and that was due to a number of factors, not talent. For instance, Messi's first start in la liga in 2005/6 came around Oct/Nov 2005 because of registeration issues. His first match was in october off the bench.

But one part i do agree, he is very similar to Neymat in style of play.

Reading these posts is just hilarious. He's just coming back off an injury. How do you know how hard he works? Answer, you don't.

All these posts are telling me (after a loss in the Clasico, when Barca beat Madrid four straight times in that fixture last season, something that had not happened before that since the mid-80s) is that people are desperate for him to fail. But he won't.
Part of the reason for hate maybe is his overconfidence. He needs some level heads around him.

I am 100% certain that he will become an irrelevant player when he is 26 or 27, and with no Ballon'Or in his pocket.

Him acting all tough must be one of the cringiest things in a long time. 1,69m tall and 59kg fighting weight.

Not sure why that Barca fan is getting so irate. He clearly is a bit of a knob with a massive ego that runs his mouth too much. A little self-restraint and humility wouldn’t hurt and he probably needs greater guidance from those closest from him.

This doesn’t detract from the fact he’s an insanely good talent who will probably have a very successful career - but if he wants to reach the heights of Messi and Ronaldo (which I doubt he will), he needs to take a leaf out of their book when it comes to application.

It is amazing how much personalities of Messi and Ronaldo have played a role in their development.

I mean, Yamal clearly doesn't have neither Ronaldo's self obsession with getting constanly better, nor he is introvert like Messi, to keep himself grounded when people want him to start flying.

He is absolutely like Neymar, both on and off the pitch.

Nope. You're massively, massively overrating him.

Mbappe scores way more solo goals beating 3 or 4 players than Yamal can even dream of. Has done so since his Monaco days.

Yamal can only dribble past 1 or 2 players consistently. His lack of pace, power and acceleration results in defenders catching up to him. The likes of Messi, Maradona, R9 (highest bracket of talent) used to dribble past 3 or 4 players consistently.

Yamal isn't a natural goalscorer either like some of those talents. His ball striking ability isn't anywhere near them.

The Barca PR machine has convinced you that he's a Messi and Maradona level talent just because he's better at 17. Lots of players shine very early and then fade away and get figured out. It means nothing long term compared to the highest bracket of talent who have sustained their brilliance.

Mbappe scores 40 goals in his poor season while adapting and adjusting to a new league.

Yeah if I were a Barca fan I’d be getting a little worried about this.
He’s a sensational talent but if he carries on the way he’s going he’ll end up like Neymar. Who whilst had a fantastic career, should have had an even better one.

Been so many things with Yamal already that you’re looking at going , “what the feck”. Whilst a lot of it you can put down to being an immature 18 year old and having a dad who acts like an immature 18 year old, you’d hope the club is putting things in place to manage his behaviour going forward. You certainly didn’t see this sort of behaviour from Ronaldo and Messi at a similar age.

If your biggest concern is potentially ending up with Neymar, you are in a good place.

If I had career trajectory of Ansu Fati, I'd be over the moon.

However, ask Ansu Fati how he feels about it.

Soo, what's making everyone question his personality then ?
Outside of his tremendous ability and his general performances I know next to nothing about the guy.

The exposure on this kid is so unhealthy. Fabrizio Romano spent the whole summer telling the world which meals this kid ate, the girls he dated, and the friends he was hanging out with. It was pathetic. If i were a Barca id be very very worried. This kid is one of the most talented youngsters ive ever seen (and i watched young ronaldo, rooney, and messi) your club need to help him keep his head and feet grounded.

you can bookmark this page and come back 10 years later, everyone who questions this guy's personality will be proven right.

Some people can "smell" players like Sancho, Dele Alli and Garnacho etc are problematic players early on, some have no ability to sense that.

Finally a much needed here voice of reason. Just the fact that there are people here who find the need to say that Mbappe is better than Yamal, is absurd. It should be common sense.

But I'd still say you overrate the importance of dribbling in rating a player.
A player needs to be sufficiently good dribbler to be able to effectively carry the ball into the final third and/or find a good shooting spot on the edge of the box or slightly outside the box.
Everything more has sharply diminishing returns. As far as I know, there never was a player who could consistently score by dribbling past the entire defence. And this is why every clip where this happens has tons of views. Because it's abnormal.
And no, R9 was not able to do it consistenly. If you think he could, look at his scoring stats, and what kind of players scored more playing for worse teams in the same league as him. His output would be vastly superior if he could indeed do it.
If dribbling past 3-4 players was the thing in football, players like Haaland, Lewandowski and Gerd Muller would not outscore everybody else.

Great talent, bad family and bad environments for a kid to suceed in long term. I hope he start saving money.

Ok but I don't think being a somehow failed wonderkid is the same thing as being one of the ten best players of the last decade.

If that makes people uncomfortable, then that's more about them than about him. He'll be fine.

Oh no! He might end up scoring 500 goals and winning 30 trophies!!!!! WHAT A TRAGEDY!!!!!

He definitely does seem to be going down the Neymar route, rather than the Messi/Ronaldo. Which is still a great career mind you, but he could be regarded as the greatest.

Barca are overplaying him though, way too much.

Last couple of pages wouldn’t look out of place in YouTube comments section. That’s not a good thing.

As long as Barca or Spain win the CL, World Cup, Euro he'll likely bag the BdO simply because there's no Messi/Ronaldo unlike Neymar's era. The challenge for Yamal is to supplant R9 as the youngest winner.

Folks are too harsh on a kid who's already expected to carry club and country, it's normal to have off-days and bad games. Barca won all the Clasicos last season no? Other 18yos get hyped for scoring or assisting off the bench.

He's annoying but as long as he doesn't contravene the penal code, it isn't surprising for an 18yo to behave like a teenager who's newly discovered partying. He has blue-collar origins, but football is(was?) a meritocratic blue-collar sport set up for kids like Yamal to excel in regardless of background.

But difference between Neymar and Messi/Ronaldo duo was so huge that they are not in the same sentence. And if Yamal only ends up being at level of Neymar, after kicking off career playing pretty much on best player in the world level, and pretty much everyone agreeing that he is Messi/Ronaldo successor as an undisputed BPITW, then it would be to some extent failure.

What is it with people wanting people that are the best in the world to be humble. He talks shit and backs it up most times. It’s a competitive sport and he’s being himself.

I’d get it if he was behaving like a lunatic like Vini does at times but not every player has to be a Messi or Kante.

Calling Madrid robbers/thieves isn't exactly normal behaviour.

Ronaldo was cocky too but he was mostly praising himself instead of badmouthing other people.

Yamal chatted shit and deservingly got spanked. Simple.

There is a difference between humble and disrespectful.

Messi and Ronaldo whilst they had ego, it was mainly about how good they were, it was I can do no wrong type of ego which you understand a top level athlete to have.

Being disrespectful to your peers is something different...

People are obsessed with players being Messi and Ronaldo, but players follow different paths. Maradona didn't follow the same path that Pele did, but ended up being arguably as great, if not more so.

Yamal just has to be himself, and let the chips fall where they may. Also, when Messi and Ronaldo retire, they will be gone, and the main focus will be on what is happening in the here and now, as it always is in sport.

Help Barcelona to win, help Spain to win, that's literally all he has to do. The rest is noise. And he's been doing a pretty good job so far.

Not really that simple because the difference after a narrow 2-1 defeat (with key players missing) is now 5 points and there's another 84 points to play for.

Plus there will be another clash between the two, but this time in Barcelona.

What happens if Barca win the league, would he have been spanked? What if they win the Champions League? Big ask but not impossible.

That is why what you are saying makes no sense and is rooted in your palpable discomfort with his brashness. That's on you.

Why can't you just admit that Yamal behaved like an absolute bellend?

Just like Onana behaved like a bellend and got spanked by Matic.

Just like Bellingham was being a bellend on the pitch and suffered consequences for it.

There is no way in hell you can possibly believe Yamal's behaviour is acceptable. This isn't MMA/Boxing trash talk ffs.

Not to mention the utterly embarrassing, "Catch me outside, how bow dah" moment with Carvajal. It's so cringe ffs.

Massive talent, but he’s a really unlikeable player that’s for sure. Can tell he’s already full of his own self importance.
I saw it in pre season. He’s made the jump quickly from youthful exuberance playing with joy at having made it to the first team…to an absolute bell end that thinks he’s got a god given right for every call on a pitch to go his way. A petulant arse. Still…a good player of course!!

But can I blame him really. He’s a product of the game we’ve created where kids…literally kids, are on obscene money and just told ‘yes’ to any requests/demmands they make away from a football pitch. Too many god complex’s in football. Lesser ability but garnacho was/is similar. I mean who on earth does he think he is to start a fuss over not starting a game (the final) when generally he’s been average to half decent at best

Last year he was an extremely talented kid who was playing football at the highest level. Head down, hardworking and letting his football talk.

Unfortunately the media frenzy seems to be getting to his head. Not to mention his entourage ( read parents ) seem to be making things worse with public statements and bringing in more unwanted attention. The money will come if he delivers on his talent, otherwise you can quickly find yourself like sancho

I agree. I like how Messi and Kante go about their business, but not everybody has to be like them. Let people be who they are.
