Lamine Yamal

It's really not the same thing. The things you are listing, you can create many arguments about why they're good for humanity. It's a lot more difficult to do that for social media, especially terminally online social media usage. If social media vanished today, it'd be far easier to handle than if electricity, cars, phones or public transport vanished.

You keep mentioning they don't know life without it, that isn't good enough. It doesn't mean we should just accept it and move on. Like always, technology moved faster than laws and understanding of its impacts. We will see in years to come the long term impacts this has on humans and it won't be pretty. Smoking is a great comparison for this, it used to be cool and some companies argued there were health benefits, many many people smoked and many people grew up and "knew no different", is that a reason to not make changes? Absolutely not.
This is a completely different argument

I watched this when it first aired, felt he came off far more grounded and humble, with some added confidence, than is often portrayed in fan forums, online social media, and regular media. I think he's gonna be alright as long as he keeps that competitive drive in gear.
Well, of course he comes off better, when he gives a meticulously prepared interview, aimed at improving his image and furthering his fame. That’s the whole point.

Well, that's sorta special an 18-year old can hold firm in this attempt to improve his image and all and not go off script as most teens have the attention span of a gnat. You're saying he was acting the part here?

Of course. Everybody acts in interviews like that. He will have been prepared by his team and the questions most likely have been approved by his team before the interview.

Well of course, because media, social and otherwise, creates a cartoon version of a person that shares some traits with the reality, but is overall quite far from who they actually are.

I also think he will be OK - as I've said numerous times before, the only thing I worry about is fitness. If he stays healthy, he'll be around for a long time. Really looking forward to seeing how he plays at his first World Cup.

You make it sound like teens are 3-year olds, or incapable of life at all.

I hope his trajectory is a more positive one than Ansu Fati's. Wild how Barca just keep turning up with these little world beater guys.

His trajectory? He is already miles and miles beyond anything fati ever did.

IMO, Yamal at his best just now is the best player on the planet by quite some margin. He makes football fun, and is hugely effective doing so

Just out of this world, what a wonderful, wonderful player and a gift to all football fans. One in a million talent and he's been delivering for a couple of years already despite still only being 18 years old. You just run out of superlatives for him.

It's really weird. From Messi to Yamal without skipping a generation is crazy.

Only way this would have worked out better for Barca is if Yamal was playing under Messi for the final 2/3 years.

I've never seen anyone with the consistency of ridiculous passes of this kid. Messi beats Yamal is all areas but I'm not sure he was a better passer despite being one of the greatest passers of our times.

Messi was more consistent with his through balls and lofted passes from a smaller range of positions and angles; misplacing or overhitting passes was very rare for him; but he was never as dangerous in as many situations as Yamal. In the situation in the first video, Messi would likely start running with the ball; his vision and passing skills became ridiculously overrated.

Strange comparison. Ansu Fati arrived with huge expectations but ultimately never fulfilled the potential many believed he had. In contrast, it could be argued that Yamal is already the best player in the world.

He’s got such a variety to his game. A lot of wingers are fairly predictable and sometimes excel at a particular aspect of their game.

He is very good at mixing up his game and keeping the defenders guessing. He is happy to cut inside or go down the line. Sometimes he goes to the byline and cuts it back, sometimes he whips in an early cross. When he picks the ball up in deeper areas he might run at the full back or he might hit an early through ball. Apart from having the range of abilities, it’s his decision making and variety that makes him so good. It’s a very rare quality,

He has very strong chance of being youngest winner of Ballon D'Or this year.
Depends on how Barca and Spain do really.

What i mean is, he's still so young that he could lapse back to obscurity before hitting the age when Messi won his first bdo, if he hits a major injury or any other disruption of his focus on football.

Garoto give it a rest.

It is an absolute travesty that this guy is not Brazilian. We should be the only ones with the right to have players like that. Meanwhile, we have sprinters with the skills and cleverness of an ostrich as wingers...

It would take a very bad injury for that to happen.

He's absolutely elite in so many areas of his game.

Barca are blessed to have him just as Messi left.

It's really surprising that we could actually have new Messi so quickly after the original Messi, who would have thought it could potentially happen so fast? Kid is amazing, I wonder how good he will be in just few years.

messi's passing and vision is overrated? I've honestly heard it all at this point.

He's no where near Messi tbh. Watch Messi at 18/19. He didn't have the productivity yet but the sheer ability to absolutely wreck through teams was incredible. His dribbling was quite literally the best since Maradona and his overall game was a fraction away from what we came to know in the end. Yamal is great and he has the talent to be an all timer but I feel like Neymar is a more apt comparison.

A new Messi is too much to ask. If he can reach prime Neymar's level that would be awesome.

Messi’s biggest problem in those first couple of years in the first team was repeated injuries, well that and the rest of his team tailing off a bit. Spent a lot of time on the sidelines then needing to come back after lengthy lay offs. First full injury free season he ever had and he won it all.

Messi comparisons aside, this lad is a joy to watch. Football has been starved of elite dribblers over the last few years, so it's refreshing to see Yamal ghost past players with ease. That semi final vs Inter was when I really sat up and took notice. He was giving Dimarco a torrid time.

That was one of those performances that separate great world class players from generational one off players. It was absurd to do what he did at the stage. The kid is really special.

Spain must be ecstatic that this time a once in a generation Barcelona talent can play for them

He's being over hyped, still. He might develop further like Messi or decline like other prospects and / or burn out physically early from playing too much in his teens...No guarantees.

Barcelona have a huge financial advantage over these rest of the league bar Real Madrid. Only a few games a season are actually against competitive opposition. They're ultra attacking which sometimes results in them getting battered like the 0 - 4 v Atletico. This style give attackers better numbers v the cannon fodder they play 9/10 games.

He's 4th in goals per minute played in the squad this season also got 9 assists. Good numbers for sure.

It's funny you say that because the match where it really sunk in for me that this kid was the new goat candidate was a march friendly against Brazil in 2024, where he absolutely took the piss out of your entire team

Sorry but this is utter bollocks

Take Messi and C.Ronaldo vs to appropriate threads; do not spam this one.
Ok, enough spamming this thread with Messi/C.Ronaldo nonsense.

I don't agree with the overhyping in the sense that the talent is quite obvious and not very dependent of physical attributes unlike say Mbappe. Only severe injuries or complete loss of focus can derail him.

The only part i do agree with is that La liga and indeed football in general has greatly regressed compared to the previous times both in attack and defence. For instance this Atletico defence is nowhere near even what it was 5 -10 years ago. There is no senior player who can claim to be outright player in the world; when Messi started playing, there was Ronaldinho, Henry, Etoo, Kaka, Schevshenko etc. No equivalents currently. He is therefore a strong candidate for bpitw title.
