I like to watch him or his team fail. I know i should not, but i do.
Played some incredible passes that should have been converted
The thing it's that he should have played better when Aleti finally got their defensive act together. He was really great when Aleti was gifting chance after chance.
Fermin was really great, Griezzmann too.
massive game and he goes quiet
Yip. And watching the highlights you’d think Atleti were trying to throw the match. The hyperbole is strong with this one.massive game and he goes quiet
Potentially, but he did set up a dangerous chance for Olmo in that crowded penalty area.
If more of his passes got converted in the 1st half, people praise him throughout the media. Fine margins.
I thought he was easily the best player across both legs.

Mbappe for me, but yeah Yamal is up there with him. Those 2 definitely far ahead of the rest for natural talent & effectiveness.I think he’s quite comfortably the best player in the world to be honest, to be playing the way he is at 18 is mind boggling
Yamal is easily better and more talented than any version of Mbappe. Mbappe has actually regressed in his allround game (see 3rd paragraph).Mbappe for me, but yeah Yamal is up there with him. Those 2 definitely far ahead of the rest for natural talent & effectiveness.
Spoke a bit too much / loudly before the game.
Barca under Flick are just too caviller in attack. It helps their attackers look better but makes their defence look like trash (not that it’s great). They’d fair better in these knockout games not playing the whole game as if attackers are the only players that matter.
Yeah, their footballs a little too kamikaze for this level knockout ties and they don’t 100% have the personnel (physically anyway) for it - not in defence (especially at CB) or in midfield.Spoke a bit too much / loudly before the game.

He reminded me a bit of starfish in the second half of slipgate. He was easily the best player across the two legs but he does need to start trusting players more with passes, especially towards the end of the match where he was trying to take on everyone on his own. Ferran and Co also need to stop wasting his assists.
Age is just a number. The number of senior proffessional matches played matters more imo because of experience, confidence and physical maturity gained. You can look at any players career trajectory including Yamal's. When most players start off, they are raw, confidence may not be as high, and they are usually physically not at optimum. Over a season or two all these weaknesses are ironed out (for those who eventually succeed) due to the demands when playing against professional footballers rather than in the academy. What was interesting was watching him operate centrally for periods of the game.
He'll move there permanently eventually, but to be able to perform like that at his age is an incredibly rare thing.
He broke his ischium. He'll just make it for the World CupHow bad is his injury he suffered today? Torn hammy?
Good for him.He broke his ischium. He'll just make it for the World Cup
Doesn't look great, hamstring injury but scans tomorrow so who knows until then. How bad is his injury he suffered today? Torn hammy?
Is this going to be yet another case of Barca burning out a young player and screwing up their career?
Barcelona have not specified the grade of hamstring injury. I feel like some secrecy might be going on here.Yes probably, but it's not just Barca.
We're now decimated by muscle injuries after playing in the CWC and having no break last summer pretty much. Estevao played to semis and now out with a grade 4 hamstring till next season. We'll see how bad Yamals is.
The football calendar is now way too bloated with meaningless games, especially the CL. It's got to change or teams got to start playing their reserves in the cups so first team doesn't get decimated.
Is there not more of a risk with overplaying kids at 16 and 17 while they’re still physically developing and growing? Talent wise yeah, you need to give minutes to players if they’re good enough to do the business. The thing is, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. That’s why I never really understand when people want young players to have their minutes drastically reduced just because they’re young. It doesn’t make sense to be as good as Yamal is and not be playing all the time. It’s counterproductive even. If he’s already so good, then playing less doesn’t really help him.
No you're not. There are studies being conducted into this but so far the early findings suggest you absolutely don't want players getting a ton of minutes before their 20s as that massively increases the risk of injury + consistent injury issues across the rest of the careerThe thing is, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
So if Yamal is already the best player in his team, you just don’t play him because he’s young? No you're not. I get managing the minutes of young players but I think if one is clearly already one of the best in the world. Playing 40+ games a season would benefit the team and the player more with the caveat that he’s well managed and rested when needed etc.Is there not more of a risk with overplaying kids at 16 and 17 while they’re still physically developing and growing? If you want to reduce the risk of injuries and potential shortening of his career, you put him on a strict minutes restrictionSo if Yamal is already the best player in his team, you just don’t play him because he’s young?
Yeh fair enough. I think it wouldn’t be so bad for him featuring in most games if he was subbed often and maybe skipped some of the dead rubber games that Flick still insists on playing him in…kinda like how Ronaldo’s minutes was managed by Sir Alex in his first few seasons. He was clearly the starting RW but often got subbed when the game was won and rested for the dead rubber. Still featured in over 40+ games. If you want to reduce the risk of injuries and potential shortening of his career, you put him on a strict minutes restriction
Which is what Barcelona did at first, before deciding winning titles now was more important than protecting Lamine's career
