Where are you getting those stats? Transfermarkt has Lamal with about 11200 minutes for Barcelona (not counting youth teams) and a little over 2000 for Spain for a total above 13000 already.

Man, at the risk of slightly derailing the thread, enough isn't said about what a physical beast Rooney was in his teens.

I still stand by my opinion that Rooney's Euro 2004 trumps Mbappe's 2018 World Cup and Yamal's 2024 Euros. And that if he hadn't gotten injured, England would've gone all the way (and comfortably so).

Ifs and buts, of course.

Indeed, he has all the time in the world, despite having, by his standards, a very poor tournament to this point.

The most important games (by far) are still to come. I've watched him a lot, and far from being overhyped, I think he's actually even better than most people realise. The injury really threw off his momentum.
 
The injury did hurt his momentum. For me, he's been the best player in the world the past 2 seasons, but he's not shown that at the World Cup.

I am curious to see how he does vs Belgium. Hopefully he recaptures some of his form prior to that injury.
 
He is two games away from having won the Euros and World Cup at just 19 years of age (turning 19 in 5 days)
Would be the greatest start to a career ever.
Not at his best this WC but growing into his game after the injury he sustained a few months back.
 
He looked much better in the 1st half.

Lost his way a bit in the 2nd half, but slowly getting back to his best.

I can't wait to see how he performs vs France. He's played great in the past 2 games vs them.
 
He’s clearly not himself. Testament to his adaptability that he’s getting by at a reduced capacity. It’s a shame he’s not come into the tournament at his best.

This is just an example of why the World Cup is so important and so far above any other competition. It's the only football tournament where all eyes are on you.

I was talking to some Americans who have really gotten into the World Cup. They were saying that they didn't get the hype with this Yamal kid. He's supposed to be the best player in the world and yet Mbappe, Haaland and Messi look much better.

I was trying to explain to them that Yamal is in fact really good but he got an injury before the tournament so he wasn't in the best form and before the injury he had been playing really well, blah blah, but I could tell that they didn't really give a crap about the context.

In their eyes, this was the main stage where the stars come to play, and they've witnessed other guys scoring exceptional goals and having fantastic performances game in game out. And Yamal, comparatively, has done nothing.

The good thing for Lamine is that he does seem to be improving and getting sharper, and he could still yet make his mark on this competition. Spain will certainly need him to turn it up a notch against France and in the final (if they get there).
 
Very disappointed by him last night. He’s lucky to play for a team that will no doubt win loads of titles over the next decade but individually, especially considering how good Spain was, I thought he was really poor. Quite amazing that he can just be okay and Spain could still win the WC.
 
The world cup final is the biggest match in football. I thought he ran forward with intent yesteday, won the penalty but wasn't at his best the rest of the match.

Time for him to make his mark on the biggest stage. If he performs and Spain win the world cup, it's going to be an astonishing start to a career after the last Euros and his Barcelona league titles. Am I right in saying he's yet to turn 20?

I was disappointed too, and to be honest I was not really sold on him. Maybe I was spoilt by messi.
In any case, amongst the younglings in Spain, cubarsi impressed me more in this world cup
 
I agree to one of the posts above that we have been spoiled by Messi.

He was very good yesterday both in attack and tracking back.

Agreed. He wasn't spectacular last night but just having a player like that on the wing means France have something to worry about there. His offside goal was a cracking bit of play and he won them the penalty (not that I think it should have been one).

France had to double up on him and it was all part of how Spain utterly dominated and controlled that game.

I agree, but he did throw himself on the floor a few times which I didn't like.

He was just alright. A bit meh which is how he’s been the whole WC. It’s funny though. Mbappe has had 10 times the WC Yamal has but it’s the latter who makes the final because the rest of his team was so good. That’s international football for you.

Messi himself didn't do too much at his first couple of World Cups. Yes, yes, I know, injuries and Maradona held him back but still. The point is that it's not exactly a fair comparison for Yamal.

Nope, meant it in general. And more with WCs, being a four years gap type of competition.
So many times players arrive to WCs not fully fit, without a proper coach, a proper team playing as such and a large etc.
Even sthg silly, like for instance to play and be the youngest ever to player or win a WC, mathematically your birthday has to fall perfectly in a WC year.

They have videos with pronunciation done for every single player and coach at their disposal and Patrick fecking Vieira sat next to you but nah i'll call him Dichampsse, i know better.

It's not just international football, IMO. The midfield, or more precisely, the abilities to build up and absorb pressure, win you titles. And Yamal worked tirelessly against the ball and progressed the ball very well throughout the entire match. The German pundits Streich and Kramer had nothing but praise for his work ethic.

He still has the final to win and a good one will erase his below par level in the tournament and he'll be praise to the sky and beyond.

Yet even if that happens:
He has shown too play in a level below his first steps in terms of decision making, his best asset when he appeared, trully extraordinary for such a young age.
He was more shy back then, a true phenom kid and more team oriented. Since some time now, even fully fits, he makes an extraordinary slalom and people overlook prior two fancy pour le galerie attemps far from productive.
Also when he got players like Mendes actually more dedicated on him, he struggled more than usual, still not facing any sort of cage, team specially dedicated squeme to isolate him nor nothing even remotelly close to that. I know that players like Cris and Killian neither, but I mention this in comparison with other more all around mid/forwards GOAT alike fellas.
He must get smarter to become better and sustain that level for longer. More when he won't have the element of surprise anymore from now on and worse if he goes central at some point, where it's an entire diff game too.

In any case timing with him has been impecable, regardless of his extraodinary talent and he must for me stop buying too much his own hype, it's great to have great confidence, even being cocky at times, but there are levels to that. It is affecting his game, fitness aside, more than many people like to recognize and he looks like trully not assesing better his best traits in the way he did it when he burst into the scene (just a tad below Micah Richards).

He still won the penalty and was a good outlet (albeit didn’t do much with it).

Who would you start instead?

I do worry that he’s going to hit a brick wall as he’s overplayed, and playing despite coming off of injuries for this tournament?

I think he's fine, he's clearly a threat and gets double teamed all the time and that's enough from a winger. The next step for him would be to find ways to dominate games even if he's double marked.
