I sincerely hope he's eased in gradually to avoid getting another perma-crock on our hands. Will be exciting to see him coming off the bench for a few cameos over the next month, with the odd start thrown in if we get drawn against lower-league opposition in the FA Cup.

Yeah that would be sensible

Pretty excited to see him back. We'll need him in our back 3 as he is the only one from our CB collection with a bit of pace on him.

Shaw played as one of the back three in yesterday training videos. So another player with a bit of pace.

If you have 3 at the back why do you need pace? What's most important is ability on the ball and I think Yoro definitely has that.

I guess the wide defenders will end up facing opposition wingers a lot of the time.

Excited to see Yoro

Being good one on one might be important then but again, that doesn't mean you have to be quicker than the winger.

He'll have been back in full training for 3 weeks by the time Ipswich comes around so he's surely ready to start. I think he plays 60-70 Sunday

I get the feeling he will play there quite a bit this season, he doesn't have the athleticism to bomb up and down the wing like he's going to need to in this season.

Just going by pre-season, he is rapid. Can't remember who it was that he chased down and tackled in the box but I remember being impressed as the attacker was no slouch when it came to pace.

I imagine it'll be him and Martinez rotating. Neither exactly have stellar fitness records.

Oh I know he's pretty quick, I'm just saying I think that focusing only on pace for a back 3 is missing the point. Strength, positioning, anticipation , tackling ability, aerial ability, these qualities all come into it as well on the defensive side, and being able to step into midfield or out wide on the ball are important for the offensive side of things.

Fair enough.

Focussing only on one thing at the expense of others would be a mistake (don’t think the poster did that though), but if there is a dearth of pace among the defenders, the issue is a lot bigger. If we only had one CB with ability to read and anticipate play, it would be even more crucial obviously. But I’m not sure I would play down the use of pace in among the CB’s just because it is a back four. It changes depending on the height of the line and the progressiveness of the WB’s and midfielders. Amorim seems to have prioritized having a bit of pace among his CB’s at Sporting, for instance.

Thought he would be on bench today, surprised as he's been training all week

Feels like fecking forever since that Arsenal friendly. At least he’s been acclimatising to the country and been gently broken in, as opposed to being thrown in straightaway, which is a risk for such a young player.

Can’t think of a better fixture to make his debut/get his first minutes. Home UEL fixture to lower opposition is second only to domestic cup fixture against lower league opposition when it comes to being eased in.

 I fully agree with you, but this read really weirdly

All week only? Then I wouldn't be surprised to see him in action no earlier than half December.
I think he`s been training with the team for 3 weeks now. Should not be far off, but think they are being really careful with him.

Looks like his hopes of featuring against Arsenal next week are lessening, remember them saying he was targeting playing in that game

I prefer this approach. He's young, moving to a much more intense and physical league, coming back from long term injury.

We've thrown players back in the mix far too quick in recent years. I'd rather we be patient with him so he can adapt accordingly.

Wouldn't be so bad if Maguire/Lindelof was available

Bit surprised he hasn't been on the bench the last 2 games, particularly last night when we had 2 keepers on and still didn't name the full quota of subs. Was pulled last minute from playing in the U21 game last week I believe which led me to believe he'd be in the first team squad.

I'm sure he's just being managed carefully just, hopefully see him return soon.

Having 2 of the best young players in Europe in their positions still to come in to the side excites me.

Really looking forward to seeing him make his debut.
Where will we accommodate him?
RCB....move Maz to RWB and Amad in one of the more attacking positions?
Exciting times ahead!

RCB. Move Maz to LWB.
Alternatively, move Maz in a pivot alongside Ugarte - worth a try as well

Seems like lots of rotation in the squad so I expect Maz to be starting at RCB a lot with Yoro being slowly introduced to that role as a second half sub before sharing some starts with Maz

I'm excited to see him in the squad, but don't think he's ready to start against Arsenal. Yes, Martinez is suspended, but we have a very good replacement at LCB in Luke Shaw.

I'd rather see Yoro start against Viktoria Plzen and can get eased into the first team gradually.
