I think it depends on whether we qualify for Europe.

Of those ‘back-ups’ you have names, one is kid with just a few mins under his belt. Two are injury prone and can’t be relied upon and Maguire is out of contract next year, and whose likely replacement has also proved to be terribly injury prone. It’s not necessarily a priority, but another CB would be no bad thing.
De ligt has played 42 games this season. Where have you got your injury prone idea from? Players get injured, he is not super man

Fully agreed. Terrible at defending wide areas and you need to do a lot of that in this system.

Yoro is showing a higher level than I have seen from Martinez in the LCB role.
Maguire has had several seasons to mess up (and continues to do) but Martinez should be the first to get shoved out of the door? It is up to other players to show quality and take his place in the side. He will compete for his position.

We’ll probably go back in for Branthwaite again due to question marks over Shaw, Licha and Maguire’s long term futures and Lindelof leaving.
Not this year and I also think we neee better passing skills (not Branthwaite)

Fair challenge. Without looking I would have thought he had missed far more games.

Still we have a centre back cohort that includes Maguire (one year left), Martinez (not good enough, and definitely injury prone), Shaw (injury prone) and Heaven (untested).

Right here, right now we are having to play Lindelof in European semi-finals and are losing him and Evans (obviously barely played this season). So whilst not the biggest priority, it’s an area that can be strengthened, and where we could do with additional cover.

Maguire will be gone in a year, and it’s only him and De Ligt that have any sort of presence in the air.

Maguire, continues to be picked. Martinez has now been at the club for three years. He wasn’t good enough in a back 4, and in no way fits into this system.

We know we need more athleticism and more height - and moving on a slow, injury prone 178cm tall (small) centre half, is one of the easiest upgrades we can possibly make.

It's more to do with his deficiencies that simply mean he's not going to work in this kind of format. Maguire should have been moved on when the time was right, and so should Martinez.

Just watched the first goal again from last night. Yoro was pushed so far forward it really set us up well. So confident in taking the ball forward and ALWAYS found a pass. Brilliant. Had a good season.

I think the biggest compliment i can pay Yoro, is that I have no idea whether he is better at RCB or LCB.

Exactly. I think people had an idea that both De Ligt and Mazraoui were extremely injury prone, but both of them have been present most of the time so far at the club.

We should try and nab Josh Acheampong on the cheap and we'd have two of the best defensive prospects in world football. Yoro, Acheampong, Heaven, MDL, Maguire and Fredericson is a good CB corps. I love Licha when he's on the ball but he's too dodgy defending big spaces and can't head the ball to save his life. Him, Lindelof and Evans to go this summer and try and replace Maguire next season.

Has anyone seen the reports he wants to go to Madrid? There has been a couple over the last 2 days saying he cant settle here and wants to leave. They were on Newsnow and if you google it.

That’s Madrid starting the tapping up early it seems

Doubt it. The club has been featuring Yoro over social media the past few weeks and he’s been doing interviews saying he wants to win things with the club and how much Rio has given him advise since he signed.

Read the article speculating he wants to leave too. Reads more like a hit piece on the club than an actual transfer rumours

Why is it we finally sign a good prospect after God knows how long and people can't stop themselves from fantasizing about him being off to Madrid or some such Club.

I see it so often in this fanbase and its genuinely so bizarre. You'd think we were Burnley with how much people get off to the idea of our better players shipping off somewhere else.

He's a class act and will only get better. If we dont sort our shit out he won't be here for long and rightly so.

Well he'll be here until at least June 2029, 2030 if the +1 is activated. If anyone wants him before that then they'll have to pay a lot of money, considering we paid around £52m (+7m in add ons) for him.

Yeh he'd just be sold. We'd make money though for sure.

We need another signing like Yoro this summer.

We already have Heaven, Fredricson and Kukonki but I also like the look of CJ Egan-Riley at Burnley who’s on a free in a couple of months. He’s a local lad who’s great on the ball and a good range of passing and whilst not aerially dominant he’s 6 foot tall and very strong.

Came through City’s academy alongside Cole Palmer, Taylor Haywood-Bellis, Liam Delap, Morgan Rogers and James Trafford and is on less than £10K a week so won’t cost much wages wise so it’s a risk free signing and would fill a gap with Evans and Lindelof going.

Real are being heavily linked with Huijsen who’s looking like being part of a great group of young Spanish centre backs with Cubarsi at Barca and Asencio at Real so if Real went in for Huijsen you’d think that’s there centre back pairing alongside Asencio sewn up long term and they wouldn’t be in for Yoro although it’s a terrible source and there’s nothing in that at all.

His composure on the ball is outstanding and I’d hate to see him leave for Madrid, but if it is to be it would have to be a massive transfer fee.

I don't mean another CB per se. I mean another high level, can't miss talent. Preferably in attack or midfield.

Problem is there seems to be a massive dearth of young forward talent in football these days so it’s a massive gamble laying out big money for forwards as seen with Hojlund but we have a lot of talent in midfield and in attack already in Kone, Moorhouse, the Fletcher’s, Ibragimov, Lacey, Mantato, Biancheri and Chido and I’d rather give them a chance.

Interesting shout. Team of the year in the Championship. Did not know his contract was up. Could be a good option at RCB.

And even then, if we throw a shit ton of money at him, i'm sure we can change his mind. He's one of the few i'd be happy to pay 300k+ for if he continues on his trajectory.

Exactly my thinking which would also long term (depending on Amorim staying obviously) allow Yoro to play centrally and bring the ball out of defence like he loves too, longer term Egan-Riley and Heaven either side of Yoro would really allow the playing out from the back Amorim is desperate to implement and on a free with his form this season Egan-Riley is a no brainer for me.

By the looks of it, Amorim wants his wide centerbacks to bring the ball forward and the CCB to play quite restricted. Really enjoy Yoro as the LCB for now.

Still think Egan-Riley for free could be a great shout. Even more so considering we are «losing» Evans and Lindelof. Team of the year in the Championship too. I really know little about him, but I would expect Wilcox to know him really well. If he has the right mentality I am sure he is someone we will consider.

Wilcox was in charge of City’s academy when Egan-Riley came through so would 100% know everything about him and would have been watching Trafford and Egan-Riley at Burnley this season due to Burnley’s dominant defence and having both been his previous players.

I think Amorim is restricted in how the centre backs play at the moment and there’s a serious lack of pace unless we play Mazraoui or Shaw who are career full backs that can play well as wide centre backs or Yoro so bringing in someone like Egan-Riley fixes that and on the cheap as well which suits our needs.

I think with wide centre backs in an ideal situation you’d have your central defender bringing the ball out with the defensive midfielder dropping back to cover then the wide centre backs sitting as the wing backs would push forward but you could make a case for any of Egan-Riley, Yoro or Heaven bringing the ball out as all look great when doing so and it would give the opposition a problem as they wouldn’t know which centre back would be coming forward.

I know that is normally the case, but that is not how Amorim usually do it.

If you look at Coates, Diomande and Inacio, you will see that it was Diomande and Inacio who both carried and passes the ball the most. Both into the final third and made most progressive passes and runs. Diomande played a bit of both (CCB and RCB) and was a lot more progressive as RCB.

I'll say the same thing I said after Heaven got injured vs Leicester: we're not allowed nice things anymore, are we?
